  1. hi guys,

here some pictures of the running box with "blue glowing".

    gallery_11012_4_73921.jpg

is not the final solution...i have to order some SMD LEDs at first and the solder five in a row onto a longer veroboard. i thinkt that then the whole front is glowing blue. :-)

i watched my drilling mask again...i would start to add the dimensions to i but realized that it isnt that easy, cause the material thickness is not exactly 6mm (its 5,6-5,8) so the sideparts you have to measure and construct them according to your exact material thikness. so this is the reason why i let them out.

  2. hi Johey and Hi Antix...

Antix: yes you are right...the small veroboard is only a temporary solution...it only holds two blue LEDs connected to the 5V connector of the GM5x5x5 PCB. Its only for the atmosphere but also to make visible that the box is getting power...because when no active MIDI-device is connected to the MIDI-IN sockets you see nothing...nothing tells you if the box is alive or not.

Johey: i commented the pics in the gallery some minutes ago...it made of 6mm white semitransparent frosted acryl...i cutted the parts on my "Proxxon FET" mini tabletop-saw. i drilled all holes by my selfe with a box column drill using a hole cutter (hope it is clear what i meant...cause i used a translation help so i don't know if the machines and tools are correclty translated...in german "Ständerbohrmaschine" and "Schälbohrer"). As you can see...now visible screws at all...but its a lie...cause the buttom-part is held with four screws. the other parts are glued with a special acrylic glue that seems to be realy good. (ACRIFIX 1R 0192)...a special hint on it...it needs light to harden...if you use UV light it hardes much faster...so if you have an exposuring machine for making PCBs you can used to harden the glue. i use a "face-solarium" (is made of 6 UV tubes) to exposure my PCBs (works realy good) and used it for the glue too. if you don't have a UV-light-source...sunlight is the best solution...but realize..the glue hardens on light...so don't glue it direcly in the sun or under the UV-light-source...first bring the glue in place an then bring your device into the light. :-) hardening time is around 20 minutes with UV-light and the same amount in direct sunlight.

I made some drilling masks in AutoCAD so if you are interested tell me. (but i have to add dimensoning at first)

    regards

  3. Hi T.K.

some weeks ago i ordered some 20x2 LCDs for me and two of the 6x1 LCDs for a colleague of me. I got them on ebay but the link i posted here is the official polish website of the seller. I searched on ebay today but found that the seller doesnt have any offers on ebay at the moment. i hope that he will make offers next time again. if not i can try to contact him on his polish webform. the displays them self were realy cheap...as i remeber right the were around 2,50€ each. The time they took from poland to me was around 3-4 days. the came certified mail. But i cant say something about how good they are...the colleague of me doesn't have time to check them.

about the display-text-topic you wrote...if i understand you correct it is only possible to make the lable fix...it would be nice if the base setting for the encoder lables is the CC that is programmed to them. if the user will change it to a userlable it would be nice to do it also via the menu of the runing MB NG Core. Its a little difficult to discribe what i mean. think on a big audio mixing console like studer, lawo or stagetek...label above every channel strip naming the channel...(in our case the encoder)...automaticly named with CC name and could be changed by user to text of his choice (only change the text but not the function). then it would be nice to have the possibility to save this as a user preset so that you can use the encodermatrix for different midi devices (synths) but always the correct "channelnaming" and function can be restored. Hope it comes a little clearer now.

i will have an eye on ebay the next weeks hoping he will offer some of that displays again. the encoder-rows of fairligthiii's design are a little to close together to give an LCD above every encoder. The only possibility is as you showed above "over-under".

  4. hi T.K.

wouldn't that be a nice display for e.g. the LRE8x2 project as a kind of lable display?

    http://artronic.pl/o_produkcie.php?id=1328?

i didn't realized a MBNG Core yet, so please forgive me my dumb question...is it possible to use for example 16 of those 6x1 LCDs as a kind of labledisplay above each encoder and is it possible if the encoder is not be turned that in the display a lable is writen in short (like...CC01, CC02, CC03 or user edited shorts ENV, ATT, SUS, REL, CUT....) and if it is be turned that it shows the value (0-127)???

How will that many LCDs be applied to the core???

    Regards

  5. thanx for your reply T.K....

okay then the choice is much easier for me, cause then i only order the red one with 25mcd and take the 2x5 with 3,7mcd out of my orderlist. that saves a little money...i red the build guide for the MB6582 written by hawkeye...he wrote something about the encoders and as you can see i have documented some problems with the bours encoder here in that thread. so i decided to take hawkeyes prefered encoders onto my orderlist and they are realy much expensiver and an order of 120 pieces is a lot of money. :-) ther it is good to save money at the LEDs side! :-)

Regards and Thanx again for your help!

    Matthias

  6. Hi T.K. and Fairlightiii,

as i red your post about the brightness of the 5x2 LEDs i smashed my hands together over my head...because i would like to order 5x2 LEDs at mouser. but i looked in your good and bad LED list and saw that the one you used from mouser are different. the one i found is thisone:

    http://de.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Lite-On/LTL-433HR/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs4quMj8r4lmtqjHxr0ZwUoLwbrnVHqAN4%3d

they do have 3,7mcd and are hence brighter than the round one from Reichelt (they have 2,5mcd).

what do you think about these one?

i didnt ordered them right now...but in february i will place an order so it would be nice to here of you if it could be i positiv candidat!

    Regards

    MaG2k

P.S.: what do you think about this round LEDs 3mm from Mouser:

    http://de.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Kingbright/WP132XID/?qs=sGAEpiMZZMs4quMj8r4lmsNxrQ0ZQMdoZ%2fc%2fv7yOhNA%3d

they have 25mcd....will they be to bright???

  7. Hi SmashTV,

it was not my intent to say that they are bad but i relized that every of the 17 encoder has an other behavior...the most are nearly equal with only minimal differences but some are realy differnt from the others...they are turning like they have grease inside the encoder. the time i needed for soldering was on every encoder equaly. I think because of my work i do have nearly professional solder skills but it could also be possible that some tolerances in the encoder or solderingtime evoke this behavior. But as i said some posts before i will buy a lot of encoders at mouser next months so that i will be shure that i buy good one.

    Regards

    MaG2k

  8. i think one wouldnt be enough for the projects i have open...but i think to order 100 pieces of each. so my question was only to safe money because i imagined that anybody here means this one or that one would be better. so i could save to buy both. But thanx for your help...i think i have to try it out.

What i realized on the detend version i have in the SEQV4 is that eachone of the 16 encoders has an other haptic feeling. they are all different. some are click very hard and are easy to turn, some are realy soft and are harder to turn. i think i better buy many and select them which should come together on one device.

  9. Hey folks,

i found some interessting datawheel knobs a time ago as i searched for a nice one for my SEQV4 and i found some nice at a german electronic distributor "voelkner" (has the same product range as "conrad"). I also testet the ALPS DK38 but i like the "Cliff Encoder Knob" more because better haptic feeling (it has a metal weight in its body). there are two types of them with different weight. i like the heavyer more. have a look to it:

    the heavy one: http://www.voelkner.de/products/339068/Cliff-Encoder-Knopf-K18-CL71650B-Schwarz-Achs-Durchmesser-6-mm.html

    the more lighter weight: http://www.voelkner.de/products/339070/Cliff-Encoder-Knopf-K18-CL71660B-Schwarz-Achs-Durchmesser-6-mm.html

    same in different color: http://www.voelkner.de/products/339067/Cliff-Encoder-Knopf-K18-CL71650A-Grau-Achs-Durchmesser-6-mm.html

    and the lighter one: http://www.voelkner.de/products/339069/Cliff-Encoder-Knopf-K18-CL71660A-Grau-Achs-Durchmesser-6-mm.html

the cheaper one is always the lighter one!

the only problem of it is that it is not for a "D"-shap shaft...that means not for the used encoders...but it works great...it fits and feels and also looks great!

here a picture of my SEQV4 with that datawheelknob. you could think about to offer them to the others too....they are realy feel better then the DK38...but they are more expensive!

here a picture of my SEQV4 with that knob fitted...

    gallery_11012_3_104830.jpg

(i allready searching for the encoder knobs in the picture...i bought a SEQV4 CS Kit from SmashTV were they were part of it...he told me that the manufacturer of that knobs dont produce them anymore or they do it only you order a real big value.)

  11. hi jérôme,

that would be okay...but its allready nearly 50% on the grand value...and thats a little hard...when i order from smashTV its always around 20-25%.

you wrote that we are arround 181 PCBs to order...so if there are only 19 PCBs left to 200 you should fill them up...i think there will be some users out there who wants to have one or to more PCBs later or there will be some latecomers. :-)

  12. hi fairlightiii...

little story about tayda electronics and german customs.

I ordered on friday evening a lot of parts (in sum around 3500 parts), many resistors, LEDs, IC...for a realy good price. It was around 90$...with the discount coupon code it was arround 77$. Because i saved a lot of money with that discount code i ordered it via DHL express delivery...it made an extra of 35$. so the grand value was around 111$. the delivery tayda and DHL made in lightspeed. ordered on friday at 10pm (GMT) delivered at 5pm (GMT) on monday and the delivery was all the time trackable. Great job...but!!!....then came german customs and calculated a tax and fees about 33€ that are around 47$...and is more 50% on the merchandise value (90$-14$=76$ and around 62% on the by discount code reduced merchandise value).

but overall i can say it is allready much cheaper to order at tayda electronics than here in germany at reichelt. not for all parts but for those tayda has. Packaging was okay, no visible damages. Had no time to test the parts till now but if you can see in many unboxing videos at youtube about tayda there is all okay. :-)

but all in all tayda is a good hint for those of you who will order a lot of parts like resistors, LED, sockets or ICs! don't forget to search for discount codes...that saves on top a lot of money! :-)

    regards
