I ordered some AOUT v1 pcbs from gold eagle pcb. These are double sided, solder masked, silk screened and otherwise identical to the original published (TK) version.
Yield was more than I expected, leaving me with extras which I will offer to anyone for same price as mike in eu so as not to undercut him. People from eu should thus order from him...
5,50 Euros = 7,47505 U.S. dollars
so $7.50 shipped to U.S.
Not sure what to do about the rest of the world. Suggestions?
NOTE: these are the v1 boards which require the MAX525 chip. If you are not controlling oscillators, (or maybe even if you are) you may want to wait for the aout_ng which is just about to be released. If you are in a hurry, or want the higher linearity (I know, I know stryd - slightly higher, ok-ok...) of the MAX525, these might be for you. I am still interested in setting up a group buy for the MAX525 chips. Maybe could combine with pcbs to save shipping.
so... anyone interested?
*edit* all spares are now sold.

wilba is dead right here.
c0nsumer, you said you would take care of it.
then wanted tk or smash to do it for you, like they
haven't spent enough of their time and effort.
it's time to man up and do what you said you would.

got mine.
the red boards do indeed look stunning.
and now the solder-fest-orama begins...
thanks much wilba!
-
this is indeed a good price.
a few questions:
anybody used this company already? wilba? smash?
this is the company sparkfun uses...
what is "maximum 15% fail rate"?
1 in 6 boards will have a bad trace?
-
when i was a kid, i really, really wanted to go to a pirate movie.
but i couldn't.
cause it was rated "arrrrr"....
-
got mine this weekend.
forgot to say thanks.
so.... thanks!
also, you was right: this looks way better than the blue one.
-
that's V3 of the sid pcb, not the MB_SID software version.
maybe R3 would be a better choice for pcb revisions.
this might get confusing, though, since smashtv labels his pcbs
this way...

The AOUT_NG is 8x12bit (8 gates), AOUT is 8x12bit (2 gates), the AOUT_LC board will do 8&8 or 12&4
Still want the old module? ;)
I definitely will be building some aout_ng as well, it will be perfect for the sid, for example.
But as I understand it, aout_ng replaces the aout_lc, not aout v1.
also, any dout pin can be a gate, right?
this is from the aout_ng thread:
Hi Thorsten,
yes, I also noticed that this afternoon, and it gave me a bit of a headache. Actually, if my calculator doesn´t lie, +/-6 LSB is around 15 mV? if full scale is 10.67 V (1V/Oct) then 2 LSB is 5.2 mV and 6 LSB would be 15.6 mV. 1 Semitone is 83.4 mV, so 2 LSB is already more than 6 cents detune and 6 LSB is inacceptable!! Still an error of 6 LSB is even better than an 8 bit DAC... I wasn´t aware that CV is so receptible to tuning errors and you can´t get a single clean interval off an 8 bit CV system.
Even though the curve in the datasheet shows "only" INL of around +2/-1 LSB I´d still say this DAC would be noticeably inferior to the max525.

saw this thread and this one for the aout pcb
http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?topic=4884.0
I understand these are old threads, but I would be very interested
in bringing them back to life if others will join in...
I realize the aout_ng is out soon, but I still want to build the
hi res aout for controlling osc freq, etc.

LCDs are in!!
...
I am starting to ship today
woohoo!

I have contemplated doing just a control surface PCB and panels for MBFM... using the PT-10 case, and putting in a Core and OPL3 module inside the case and using panel-mount sockets on the rearpanel.
That project is 2nd on my list though... next on the list is an MB-SEQ V3 control panel/PCB combo using the same construction method as the MB-6582. That design will be suitable for a 19" rack case or a desktop version like the P3 with wood endcheeks.
Cool, that's my next project as well. Already started gathering components.
Any way I can help?

voted alternate. will take 2 regardless.
looks like alternate is killing so far...

I was just wondering why you did ask...
ahhhh,
well lots of posts in this thread seem to be assuming it
(making an ass out of uming)
also wilba, in another thread, mentioned a bulk order forming.
But I can't imagine he wants to handle it, with all the work
he is already doing, so I asked the question.
Asking is good, yes?
-
have you read the first post?
I don't think so...
Of course I have read the first post.
Nothing about a bulk order there...
-
Is someone actually arranging a bulk order?
If so, I'm in for 50...
-
I like the blue negative (CFAH2004A-TMI-JP)
pretty cool...
-
i'm in for 2
-
i'd like to get in for 20 on this, if possible.
i am in dallas, tx usa (zip 75081)
