  1. Hello. Is the PCB still available and what would be the total cost including shipping to Athens, Greece? Thanks
  2. Thank you very very much Thorsten for taking the time to reply and solve a problem once again!! As soon as I finish my MBSid CS3, I will deal with the MBSeq and I will post results of the code implementation, the KX88 is a real gem and maybe others that use it could benefit too from this and I would be more than happy to try to contribute something, even this small, from my side to this amazing community... I think I am not alone in expressing once more deep respect and admiration for everyhting you have done and are still doing for all of us people over so many years! Again, Happy and Creative New Year!
  3. Thank you vm Peter and Gerald for the time you dedicated to respond to this...and Happy New Year!!! I am not much of a programmer, just fast and skillful with a soldering iron and keen on constructions.... would like to enter the coding field, but I am afraid my time is very very limited due to my ruthless work schedule... so I was hoping to achieve 2 things in one construction (mbseq) as described above. I will consider taking the route you suggested... but if I am to invest in yet another box (core mbng), maybe i will save more time by getting myself a yamaha mep4 http://sonicstate.com/digital/model.cfm?modelID=242&catid=7&manid=2.Even better would be to sort this velocity problem directly in the KX88 firmware ( if you are not familiar, with this controller, http://www.sonicstate.com/synth_reviews/yamaha_kx88/11/), but that seems an impossible/ daunting task. The best piano action for my taste even by modern standars, but the velocity problem is common to all of them afaik regardless of firmware... Oh, I guess I am already off topic... Cheers and I will def. come back to you with updates on the matter...
  4. Hello everyone and Merry Xmas! Sorting out things to start construction again after a very very long time - have to finish my single MBSID 's CS Step3, to build a MB6582, a MBFM and finally a MBSEQ - all the PCBS, chips and parts are there, but time is an issue nowadays (not to also mention a jasper - wasp clone- project). So, the question here is if there is any possibility to use the MBSEQas a midi events processor to alter the velocity curve of my Yamaha KX88, which only transmits velocity values >14 (minimum note on velocity is 15). What I would like the MBSEQ to do is to subtract 14 from the incoming velocity values and then multiply, say, by 1,124 to achieve scaling from 0-113 to 0-127, I hope it makes sense. I understand there exists a MB midi event processor, but since I will build a MBSEQ anyway, I was hoping to achieve this goal too... and things will be easier to edit with the double LCD... Thanks in advance for any input...
  5. Hi Thorsten and i feel good to be back in the forum again!! Sorry for the unfinished first post ... I accidentally hit the post button and then i did not have time to edit, because an emergency came up... :) I do have the service manual for the keyboard and I could pm it to you if required, but I think that there is no schemnatic for the KX88 keybed... nevertheless here is the short story of what I would like to do... THe KX 88 is an old MIDI controller 88note kbd (no sounds) which has been praised by many many users as maybe the best feeling piano action keyborad ever manufactured. While the feel of the keys isindeed better than anything else i ve tried regarding piano action, the velocity range of the kx88 is only 15-127 (measured in midi ox and other monitors). No matter how lightly you press a key, the lower vel value is laways 15. Stangely, in the midi specs chart of the kx88 manual it is stated that the velocity range is 0-127! I have tested all keys and itsthe same with all of them, so I think this is not a mechanical issue, but more like a software limitation (0other users experience same issues). I really wanted to achieve the missing 1-14 vel values, so I saw 3 possible options 1) contact yamaha to solve the problem, with a EPROM update,2) alter the firmware myslf, 3) remidify the kbd myslf. 1) Contacting Yamaha did not solve anything, as the kx88 is old (1984) and no one there seemed to know what it was (!!!), 2) is not really an option as my programming skills aRE super primitive plus i do not think there is a source code availabe (THough I could copy the ROM, as I have a chip programmer, I can read the ROM in midiox :)). So this leaves option 3 using your platform for the midibox KB. The thing is, to my understanding , the KX88 does not use the make-break switch approach, as it does not have rubber switches, but it uses all metal switches DX7 style like shown here http://www.syntaur.com/images/3120-Lg.jpg, so i do not know if these switches work in the same way like make break ones.... In these switches there are two metal stops and a middle metal spring that initially is in contact with the upper metal stop. When a key is pressed it touches the middle spring which then travels a short distancfe and gets in contact with the lower stop (I hope i make sense). i believe that the velocity is measured by the time it takes the middle spring to trael from upper stop to lower stop, so in this case only one switch is pressed?. So is the midification possible, and will i be able to achieve 0-127 vel values? I ll try to find a schematic for the keybd and i can send you a pdf of the service manual , if you wish. Thank you in advance
  6. Hi its been a while since i last posted here...i have an old kx88 MIDI controller 88note kbd. While the feel of the keys is better than anything else
  7. Hi everyone. I am in the process of building a MB6582 to which I plan to incorporate 4 SSM2044 VCFs (seppoman s pcb x 2). The thing is that I want to have one case for everything - and since I am going to have 4 " unfiltered" SIDs and four "SSM2044 filetered" ones I was thinking that the use of a passive mixer would ease things up. So the question is , would something like this passive stereo mixer do the job? The idea is that instead of having four stereo outputs one foe each pair of SIDs, these outputs go to the mixer inputs, so as to have one combined stereo output of all 4 pairs... Of course a custom panel will be used which will provide thespace for the mounting of the 4 mixer pots. Please tell me what you think, if this is doable, and most important, if it is worth it
  8. Payment just sent !!! thnx for everyhting and waiting patiently for my case
  9. @ Wilba, a bit off -topic, but do you still have any seq pcb/kits available? I m on the list too, but it might take foerever so if there is a possibility to get my pcb/kit directly from you or fussylizard until august, I would be more than happy, since I will only have August available for soldering.... too busy with work all year... Cheers PS I have also pm ' d you but posting this also, in case your answer might interest other mates here too...
  10. @smashtv: Thanks Tim, gr8 to hear things are working for all of us. Just wanted to ask are the pms sent according to the order of the list, and if yes, what number have we reached so far? (eager to get the soldering gun on my hands again.... :)

    Shipping

Thanks Smash! Will be ordering soon!

    Shipping

Smash, is Greece supported in the regular shop, I see the shipping option in the small shop list, but I want to order a core 32 an the M6582 base and CS pcbs and parts, so I will need to do that via the regular shop, but I cant find Greece as an option, WIll you add it or should I order anyway and calculate the cost using another country (and which one?)
  13. Thanks guys! As soon as i receive the filter boards I ll decide what must be done, at the moment I am starting to evaluate the separate filter box solution again, and looking for suitable cases for the one-in-all solution. If I decide the latter maybe I ll build the case myself (could it be wooden ;)) we' ll see...
  14. Apologies for the double threading nILS, I thought about that before posting twice, in the sense that my post has to do both with parts seeking and fleamarket issues, so instead of writing two distinct posts with different subjects and contents, I tried to save some time by writing about both issues in the same post and just posting twice as I did  If that was against the forums rules, by any means apologies again, next time I will separate things ...
  15. Thanks for the fast input guys! I really like the MB6582 CS layout so I would like to keep it, maybe using another taller case is the solution. Just one idea... what if I use 4 x very very tiny AOUT LC pcbs (on a vector board or designed pcb), would that reduce the required space so as to squeeze the 4 filter pcbs in the PT10? I was thinking of placing each of the filter pcbs on top of its respective AOUT_LC pcb using appropriate spacers, I think this way all the boards would fit the footprint of the PT10, but would the height be enough? I do not have the PT 10 case nor the filter boards in my hands yet to measure... so any input again welcome. Best regards Dimitris
  16. Hello to everyone I am expecting to receive soon a set of 4 x dual SSM2044 filter pcbs by (seppoman) to use in my MB6582 project. I am thinking of incorporating permanently the 4 filter pcbs into the PT 10 case so as to have a super filter capable machine without the need for an external box (I do not plan to use these filters elsewhere anyway, so an extra case would be redundant). The ultimate question is: Is there enough room for the filter pcbs to fit in the PT 10 case, taking into account that also some form of AOUT must be used, i.e. I will also need either 4 x AOUT_NG pcbs or 8 x AOUT_LC circuits to control cuttof an resonance of each SSM chip.. :ermm: I am asking for the opinion of the people who have used the PT 10 case for their MB6582 and have a clue if this incorporation is possible. Please mind, I do not care if this will be a super tight fit, I only would like to find out if it s POSSIBLE. Anxious to hear what you think... :w00t:
  17. I am in search of some transparent "waldorf" knobs the ones under ALBS part no 863062, that WIlba or subatomicglue have used in their MB6582s. I understand that the part is out of production, but does anyone know if there is any possibility to track some and where? I need a set of 15 knobs for my MB6582, but if not possible, I wouldn t mind getting a quantity of 40-50 of them, or start a bulk order provided they still exist somewhere. The knob looks like this, I am chasing a transparent blue - gray tinted or clear diffused one, but any transparent colour will do in the end  If anyone has a clue please drop a note and if someone has any spare ones please PM me
  18. Hi Doug, I have sent you a pm order for 9 chips. cheers and I hope health issues end up ok hermes
  19. ANy chance of any remaining SSM2044 pcbs or another bulk order in the near future? Cheers
  20. Problem solved - many thanks! :D
  21. Hi everyone I am trying in vain to use MIOS STUDIO I have downloaded the J2RE v.1.4.2 from the java site and the MIOSSTudio_beta4_2.jar file. I installed java but when I double click on the MIos Studio .jar file I get this message: "Could not find the main class. Program will exi?". What am i doing wrong? (using WinXP) Pls help - I am trying to debug my MBSID CS B. thx in adv. Dimitris
  22. Hi Thorsten Thanks for answering, as always. There doesn't seem to be any problem with the tracks around the midi in port. But I checked for short circuits with my multimeter and I noticed something fairly strange: With the mutimeter on beeper, when I check for short between #11 and #12 pins of the PIC there is a "beep" generated from my multimeter, which lasts for only about 1 sec and then pauses. If i remove one of the multimeter checking needles and then put it back to the pin again, nothing is heard. Now, if I change the position of the needles and put the red needle to the pin where the black needle was and vice versa, I hear the 1 sec. "beep" again, which then pauses. The same thing happens when I check for short between the Vs and Vd line of the 5V output of the C64 modified PSU circuit (I mean the output after the 100nF cap) and it also happens when I check between any of the Vs, Vd and Vo lines of the LCD output port of the core. Is all this behaviour normal or not? (I guess not) ??? I must mention that I did all the tests after disconnecting the second core completely from the power and from the first core In addition the midi input monitor of midi ox, I get random events from the core midi out, like several repeated lines of pitch bend messages or several repeated lines of Progr change Acc. Grand Piano etc. I can not fix this problem although everything seems to be ok in the core soldering ... At some point I even thought that my multimeter was damaged or that a cap or a resistor or a diode in the core was burnt Is there any possible way to get out of this or shall I have to build another core?  :P Also are the voltages I get correct ? Cores: 5.37, SIDS: 11.98 (6581), 8.87 (8580), 5.37 (serial register chips 74hc595) Thank you in advance for you time and for your help Best regards Dimitris (Hermes)
  23. Hello everyone Some time ago I had built an MBSID without CS (I core and 1 SId module with 6581 chip), which worked without problems - I had also connected an LCD on it. Recently I built another core + SID with a 8580 chip, so I decided to upgrade to CS step B nad also use TK's modified C64 PSU. Initially, although I was sure about my connections things did not go as planned - I managed to get the CS working but I had no sound coming out of the my SID. At one point the fuse of the C64 PSU was burnt and I had to replace it - the 100 pF cap of the C64 PSU circuit was also burnt so I replaced it too. After these replacements my 6581 SId worked !!! I was even able to load the preset patches on a Bankstick and scroll through them and hear all of them. But the 8580 sid nver worked. After examination I noticed that the R11 resistor of the 8580 core was un soldered, so I soldered it back. And after that nothing woked any more ... - even my lcd does not have stalble lighting and brings out random characters :( :'( I must add that I do not use the 1.0 Mhz oscillator - I have connected my sids directly to the cores (PIN #17) for clocking. The voltages are Cores: 5.37, SIDS: 11.98 (6581), 8.87 (8580), 5.37 (serial register chips 74hc595) Please help!!
  24. Hello to everyone I have built a single SID which I am currently using without a CS (but not for long - the front panel is ready :) )and which I control from a Dopfer Drehbank Midi Controller). Everything works fine - the sound is absolutely fantastic- except for one thing: I have connected a LCD and although it says, at first "MIOS v. 1.7 T. Klose" and right after that "MidiBoxSID v. 1.7 CS not enabled!", I cannot get it to display anything else when send midi CC from my Drehbank or from my master keyboard. The question is: Can I get my no-CS SID to display the parameters I am altering using an external controller? And if yes what must I do (must I send any special sysex string for that ?) Thanks in advance - I really want to fix that so that I can use the SID on a studio session tomorrow... ;D Dimitris
