  1. Pete,

    First of all,  i brought in another XP pc, p4 processor loaded mios studio 2.4.4 and plugged in the LPC usb cable.  The PC found the LPC and attempted to load the USB composite driver which failed, bringing up the message that the device was not working properly. Now I am really confused.  The LPC worked fine prior to upgrading to the latest releases of new boot loader and midio 128.  Nothing else has been done to the system.  Should I be using a different USB composite driver?  Probably should have left things alone, but was trying to get the file browser in mios studiio to work, and the upgrade required release 10 of the bootloader. 

     

    As for the single _usb issue,  when the pc and LPC were talking, i loaded the new bootloader and in the terminal on mios studio i enabled the single_usb.  After that I loaded the latest release of midio128.

    I un-installed the GM5 driver.  "de-install is also understood.   The computer re-installed the old windows driver, but doesn't see the LPC.  Updating the driver didn't help either.

    Ok, I'll do anything, but  how do i select the single_usb option?  As i recall, the option came up when i upgraded the bootloader, but how do I do it since upgrading the midio128 app, and mios studio?

    I am also working at getting another computer running to confirm that its not a win xp/pc problem.

    As you may or may not recall,  I was using midi in1/out1 to communicate with the core 8, and midi out2 to communicate with the Artisan sound engine.  My concern is that without the USB port on the LPC working, I can't continue as planned, without adding more midi ports, or using the A midi out port on the midiman 2x2 interface.

    The GM5 driver has been  un-installed.  The device manager(winXP) displays yellow diamond by USB composite controller with the usb cable connected to the LPC.  I uninstalled the driver, rebooted and reinstalled the driver with same result - yellow diamond on the DM, and message driver is not properly installed.

    I failed to mention a detail that occurred prior to having  the USB problem.  The PC became very, very slow with the USB cable to the LPC connected, not locked up, but it took minutes for things to change, upon which i just reset the machine and rebooted.  Upon reboot, the pc worked ok until I plugged in the USB cable to the LPC.

    Now I am a bit confused, so i need some teaching, please!

    When connected with the 2x2 interface, using the midiIN1 and midiOUT1on the router, what happens with the router settings?

    the current router settings are  node 1; usb1  all  out1  all, Node2 in1 all  usb1 all. and I could query the core 8 and transfer updates to it over midi.

     

    I am using a core8 also along with the LPC and had it connected to midiin1 and midiout1 Do i move the core8 to midiin2 and midiout2 and change the router settings over to midiin2/out2? See the block diagram of my organ setup attached

    My understanding of the LPC/router has been that USB is the pc which can be connected to anyone of the routers midiin and midiout ports. Am i wrong?

    PS: Yes i did upgrade to the latest bootloader (rel.017?), midio128-3.015, and 2.4.4 of mios studio.  I also loaded the GM5 driver recommended by TK.

    When i loaded the bootloader, I selected the "single midi" option.  Is that a problem?

  5. Existing installation, has been working properly for weeks. Mios Studio 2.4.2 stopped seeing the LPC after a query. Tried 2.4.4, same result 

    PC says no midi devices connected, although the USB cable is in place. Reconnected 2x2 USB interface to pic8 and PC, and query successful so PC USB working ok., and didn't run the loopback test. 

    The surface unit connected to the LPC boots up as normal (with USB cable connected), all functions seem normal.  Access to DINs, DOUTS, Router, mon. all are normal.  MSD activates, but nothing sent to the pc.  PSU voltages normal.\on the LPC.  Led on the core appears normal.

    Per schematic, TX and RX go directly to the processor.  All solder connections on the USB connector re-worked.

    Question: Is there another way to connect to the PC other then through the USB port?

    Question: Does the ethernet  (OSC) port connect directly to the LPC core ?

    Question; is there a way to connect the midiin1/midiout1 on the router to the LPC core with jumpers, an existing connector designed for a different app. ?

    Questiion:  could the bootloader/mios/midio128 be corrupt?

    is the LPC  USB  dead?  Are other tests available?

    I have done all of that, including the GM5 driver upgrade, although i am using  XP on my pc.  i can still use MSD, and per you comments, it works properly, however, i can not get the file browser to work to simplyfi the editing process of the .mio file.

    Questiion:  When upgrading to later releases of mios studiio, is it necessary to start fresh with a newer version of the base .MIO file, and edit it?  i have been using the same .mio file all along. loading it to the LPC core with MSD.

    Attached is a screen dump of the terminal screen which appeared when I attempted to edit the default.mio file. The .mio file did not open for editing.

    Is this what is supposed to happen?  Am i doing something wrong?

     

    using the "Show File" command in the terminal, the default.mio comes up in the terminal window, but it is missing parts of the matrix program lines that show up in the file when viewing in a text editor.  Is this normal? 

    Is it totally unwise to use the MSD function on the control surface to view and edit the file?   I have done all that you recommended regarding windows computer running XP OS and stil can't edit the .mio file using mios studio 2.4.2 latest release.

  8. Duggle,

    Since you are well into the midibox KB, and with success, perhaps you may have an answer to or suggestion to a problem I am having with the KB pcbs.

    Given;  LPC-17 USB connected to XP, P4.  midio128 ver3. latest release.

                 2 KB  PCBS encoding 3, 61 note KB's ( KB1 encodes Accomp, chanel 1, KB2 encodes main, channel 2,  KB3 encodes Solo, channel 3.  KB4 (DIN4/DOUT4) encodes all sense contacts   on   61 SAMS with output on channel 5).  All three keyboards have diodes per TK directions.  There are no other connection to the LPC, or its router, other then the control surface.

    Problem:  All 3 Keyboards are fully encoding, producing 0X24 thru 0X60, and on the correct channels.  However, KB1  (DIN1/DOUT1 connected to the accomp Keyboard) adds a note on and note off on channel 4 with the note value 0x2E for any key pressed, even key 0X2E ( with channel 1)

     

    i have checked over the 3 M8x8 in the .MIO file and everything seems to be ok.  None of the matrixes are using channel 4.

    i have gone over the solder connections of both KB PCB's, touching up all solder points with no change.

    I switched the Keyboard connections for the three keyboards around, and the problem followed the accomp keyboard.

    The DIN and DOUT ic's are new.

    based on the 8x8 matrix, a single DIN IC problem or single DOUT Ic problem effect multiple notes which is evident when looking at the matrix.  An open diode will effect only one note and it will not play.   Correct me if I am wrong, but a shorted diode should not cause the problem, since the key contact is open.

     

    I am stumped!

    Loaded the GM driver and now the midi in and midi out windows on mios studiio show GM1 thru 4.  The file browser still doesn't work.

    This is an xp computer and i don't have another to use.  

    In my application which is jOrgan,  i need midi 1 (in/out) and 2 (in/out),  I am able to set the router in the terminal with the set command.  Is midi 2 active, or does it have to be set..

    Would still like to have mios studio running.

    i tried the file browser several times and it went up to 76%.

    Fortunately the MSD still works, and it accesses the SD card with out a problem.

    I am back to seeing 4 USB, at the top of the midimon, input and output.  What do i reload to get back to just USB 1?

    Again when i enter help in the terminal window, i don't see the command to set USB to 1.

    Thanks for the specifics.

    i am current with the uploader, and reloaded the latest ver of midio128.

    Now when mios atudio boots up, it shows only one usb,  usb1.  before it showed usb 1 - 4.

    I tried the file browser, and it performs as before.

    The default.mio appears,  i select it with the mouse and nothing happens.  The loading messages appears at the bottom indicating %loaded which stops at about 50%, then the other message indicating an error appears.

    I also pressed one key on the three keyboards and one SAM, and the off channel message still appears.  Should I start checking hardware?

    i am using 3 KB's from a "liberated"  Saville organ.  they are configured with a full length PCB forming an 8x8 matrix, with diodes.  8 terminals for rows, 8 terminals for columns.

    Current problem involves unwanted messages.  Depressing a key produces the correct noteon/noteoff messages, but also some extras with note value and channel not included in the .mio file.

    I have checked everything, even replaced all the IC's on the 2 KB pcbs, to no avail. Take a look at the midio128 ver.3 thread in "midification".

    Looking closely at wiring,  I found that the ground in the 5/c ribbon cable to the last DOUT4X pcb had separated so the PCB had no grond connection back to the LPC.  it did have the new ground connection from the ground plane on the DOUT pcb to the common system ground point, but not to the -dc from the USB power source.  That probably caused damage to the ics on the DOUT.

    Reading through the forum posts I noticed I was behind on updates, and  felt it a good time to update all software, boot loader, midio128ver.3 and mios studio.

    With so many things not working correctly, I unplugged everything and started over introducing items.

    First is the LPC with the 2 KB matrix pcbs, no other DOUTS or DINS.

    First problem came with mios studio.  Avoiding the MSD access to the SD card, i tried the file browser which lists the default.mio, and the Update button which is highlighted.  As i understand the revised mios studio, the .mio file should be displayed so it can be edited.  Picking the file name brings up text at the bottom of the window  that indicates the % of the file loaded,  The progression of the load stops with an error message of an error in the file.  This is the same .mio file I have been using which is puzzling.

    in any event it must be  loaded, because depressing keys on the KBs produces an input on the mios studio monitor window.

    If using the MSD on the control surface is not recommended anymore, how else can I load the mio file, except with the file browser?

    Also,  What should i look for in the .mio file that would cause an error?

    The first test of the KB matrices is not a complete success. Inputs on the monitor from key presses show the correct note on and note off messages, but there are additional messages for notes using channels not on the matrix configs on the default.mio file.  This was happening before i did the updates.

    Strangely,  of the 3 kbs which are on channels 1,2,3  The offending messages are on channel 4, and the same 5 or so notes appear on 2 of the three kb inputs.

    Troubleshooting work already done:  inspected the KB pcbs with a magnifying glass and touched up with a soldering iron any suspicious joint;  Replaced both ICs on both KB pcbs; checked continuity through the 5/c ribbon cable.  no change in results.

    Several of the note numbers show up on the same row on the matrix input which would indicate to me that a key contact is stuck closed, so mynext task is to inspect all of the key contacts.

    Any comments about any of the above are welcome.

    I tried attaching the default .mio file as well as screen dumps of the monitor window showing the KB input stuff, but files are too big.  may i email them to you?

    you mentioned the  protection diode in your last post.  one of my keyboard matrix encoders is doing strange things.  when a key is pressed it sends out the appropriate note on/ note off message, rite channel, rite note,  but in addition it sends out several other note on/note off messages on different channels with different notes.  This phenonmon was viewed with midiox.

    If a protection diode is open, or shorted, can it cause such things?

    Take a look at the attached block diagram.

     

    Given,  since Din 1, pin 1 is used in a matrix,  I can't use it any further. Event 0 and event 1 for DIN pin 1,1 is 0x93; 0x24.

    Question;  it the core 8 is programmed to send a midi out message  with event 0;event 1 of 0x93;0x24, will it key the matrix?

    The LPC router is set to pass all channels USB in to midi out 1, and midi 1 in to USB out. so the LPC sees the note on/off coming from the core 8.

    If you need more data, tell me what you need and I will comply.

    Please kepp in mind that I am working two software packages, jorgan and midibox which don't always see eye to eye.

    Question:

    1.  Is it a problem having the assigned matrix output channel, 3 in the case above,  the same as the DIN channel used in the Din list above?

    2.  If there are other din inputs to the system on a CORE8, the midi out from which is connected to the midin on the LPC router, are the channel 3 midi notes numbers 0x24 thru 0x63 also restricted.

     

    This is difficult to explain.

  17. My organ relay components are all midibox LPC-17, core 8, DOUTS and DINS,  and the USB port on the USB is connected to a pc running linux ubuntu / jOrgan.

    when I attempt to transfer the mio file from the SD card to the computer to edit it,  the directory does not come up as  it does  with  windows.

    Is it not possible to edit the MIO file in Ubuntu, and save it back to the SD card? 

    Do I have to go back to windows, transfer the file, edit it, save back to the SD card, then reboot in windows, Pain!

    Lastly, is there a linux version of mios studiio?
