Are they any good for heavy abuse in a dj application of the Midibox64 ? cheers :) (i've got the datasheet for those but it's a bit of a shame that the forum doesn't support any attachements) (i could upload this to my web host but it's down ATM :()

introsite would you recommend these buttons for heavy use with dj software Traktor Dj Studio. What's their response and how do they feel like ? I would also like to have two types of buttons, those that "click" when you press them and those which just kick back when you press them. thanx As a last note, those buttons which "click" will have a LED next to them to indicate their "clicked" status. As a result I might buy these buttons with build-in LEDS to avoid having the DOUTX elements.. Again, are there any good for my purposes ? yeap my quattro sound card from midiman (now m-audio) with a build in 1x1 midi interface works like a charm after 4 years of use :-) highly recommended

thanks for the long post ! really helpful indeed. I am based in London as you have asked and I ve been looking around for some good shops with switches and faders etc that deliver here (farnell perhaps). What is crucial for me is to get very high quality linear faders and perhaps a decent quality of knobs because i will be using these a lot and a very high accuracy is needed. Perhaps I should had mentioned this earlier but I know exactly what I want , a Midibox64 And I know exactly from where to order my stuff http://www.mikes-elektronikseite.de/shop_englisch/k001u002s001.htm I can just get myself the Midibox64 complete set and bob's your uncle ! I am also thinking accessorising myself from this guy's shop ! I also used soldering before when I was at junior high school at the age of 15 ! if I could do it back then, I don't think i will have a problem now.. and it was lots of fun .. I had built a light sensitive alarm and remember using something called photodiode (?) ... lots of fun, once I got it working, great feeling! I remember the only thing that our teacher did for us was to dip the PCB boards in some machine (?) old memories spring into mind .. anyway, I will probably giving this a go quite soon after my bloody exams are over .. thanks again ;)

I guess what I have been taught to do in my profession 40% Planning - 20% Doing - 40% Reviewing doesn't apply in this situation you are suggesting that I should get my hands dirty and start playing with these things before considering all the possible things that might go wrong and take the appropriate actions for each of them in advance. OK, talking in real terms now... I will be able to devote about 8 hours in weekends and about 1 hour a day for this project. thanx LO, I am already in the process of creating the layout... My concern at this stage is that there should be some standard dimensions for drilling the wholes for the LEDs and the slids for the faders for example. Is this true? Obviously at this stage I should be buying the buttons, knobs, joystics I am intended to use in order to infer the actual dimensions for making the cuts. This is like going all the way to the end of the project whilst just making a start ! a big commitment i would say :)

I think this point refers to my ironic comments about bombarding you with a myriads of questions but I think you rushed to a quick conclusion by only thinking the facts with your highly capable brain and your extensive Midibox skills and your apparent superioty with regards to dummies. I have been lurking around this forum for over a year now and yes I have done hundreds of searches in here and moreover got a brief idea on some peoples attitudes in this forum (I don't blaim you, midi ppl r bizzare by their nature) It will take me two years if not more because I simply don't have the necessary time available to complete the project due to my current workload and exams. With the information already scattered around, I think I would be able to build a midi controller without even asking for your help if that is what you want. The only problem is that I won't achieve the optimum results and I am likely to make errors which could be avoided by just asking simple questions. If you got a problem with newbs or if anybody else then keep it for yourself like I do when other ppl come and post in my forums. OR EVEN BETTER JUST IGNORE THEM , my ID is neodjandre , stick it on your black list , I dont care ... no need for the fuzz but I got a bit drunk as well today 8)

OK this topic should evidently mark the start of my project which I will refer to as "Midibox DJ" from now on. The first step which I consider reasonable is the design of the preliminary layout of the front panel (and the side panel for midi in/out, power on etc.) I have seen users making use of AutoCAD and Corell. My question is which piece of software should I use in order for my final file to be compatible with laser cutting equipment. Do you have any preferences over a particular app? I have also seen I website where you download a piece of software and after drawing your plan, you just send the file and they prepare the panel for you. But that was way too expensive. (you are being charged by the number of holes you make on your panel :)) That's it for now, I have more thoughts to follow up after your initial comments. thanks Ash

OK, I have put myself together and decided to start the question avalanche quite shortly. I reckoned that the best way to do it, is to start small topics on different stages of the production, so for example the first topic I will open will be sth like: --== Computer Design & Panel cutting ==-- notice the signs --== ==-- , I guess this is a good way to distinguish between my topics, so that other newbs will find them easily (even better is to open a new section just for these mini topics; if this happens then I am willing to go into as much detail as I can and include pictures of my designs and everything and at the same time get a better feedback from all you guys). Of course I have to warn you that I will be moving very very slowly (unfortunately I am lacking very much of time, if I could I would buy some extra time :)). I foresee that my project will not to be completed before two years time. I hope that the mods will have a look at my proposal, otherwise if this is not possible, I will start my first topic in the section I find most relevant! trying to build up some momentum, Ash

Obviously, you have a very interested person like me but I don't know whether that gives you enough motive to undertake the proposed task. I guess we should start a big campaign, re-organise the main site (ucaps -it surely needs some improvements; on the contrary the portal is just beautifully organised) and make more ppl get into this project. Since you wanted to start a tutorial on Sid, I would suggest to make it a bit more generic in order to apply to other midibox projects so that it can actually be useful for everyone. Once again, people like me are looking for all those little things that the big cheeses in here take for granted. OK, I think I will be able to solder some wires but for example I cannot figure out (unless I ask) how to mount the different components rigidly on the front panel. I would expect to see things like that in future tutorials, if that ever happens .. otherwise be prepared to be immensed with literally hundreds of questions in the near future .. dont say I didn't warn you :)

Hello and once again well done for this amazing project and delightful community. As a newbie I've been browsing all sorts of different topics, flicked through various schematics and diagrams and more or less dream of starting my own midibox64 project one day (solely for traktor dj studio use). There is a lot of information scattered around but what I didn't find is a detailed tutorial which comprises of all the necessary information to build your own midibox from scratch to the finishing touches. What I would like to see is a seperate section where users like me can download mini tutorials in pdf files preferably (which can easily contain pictures and text and even more easily to edit). So there should be a seperate pdf file titled: "Building your own case" which details all the necessary steps for building an enclosure, best places to buy, tips and hints etc.. Another pdf file should be "Mounting all components on a board" people should start creating this mini pdf tutorials on those matters that they are particularly aware off. The most important thing is to collate all the information together. At a last note i found some schematics for midibox64 in ucaps and some others here and some more in wiki ... I think this idea should be put forward, so that in two years time i would have all the necessary information and available time to build my dream machine ..
