  1. I just ran into the Tonepad site a few days ago, odd coincidence. I've ordered the parts to build a TS-808 Tube Screamer distortion pedal for my little brother. I'm no guitarist, so I don't know how good it will be, but the list price on the net for one is like $150-$200. Pretty easy to build from the looks of it.
  2. Looks factory made to me. ;D
  3. Oh, that very much looks cool, SM. I first got into modular-like computer software through Jeskola Buzz. Are you familiar with that program? Hmm. I'm not making any promises, but when my MBSID is finished perhaps i'll work on a Reaktor controller for it like yours, and maybe add some ideas of mine. I think it would be good for the scene to see more people taking it upon themselves to add to the available tools instead of just asking for them. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
  4. With Native Instrument's Reaktor you can build instruments and effects very much like that of Synthedit and bring them into other programs as VST's. The saved ensembles (as they are called) are cross compatible with PC & Mac. Unfortunatly you still need Reaktor to use them (expensive). In the case of SIDControl, it's just sending midi back out rather than dealing with audio directly I would imagine (havn't tried the VST yet). So I see no reason why Reaktor couldn't do it. In fact I had never heard of Synthedit before now and was amazed at how similar it looked to Reaktor.
  5. Thank you very much, that was the info I was looking for. Alas, I'm running into space issues with my keyboard, so I've either got to decide how to make the keyboard shell taller or I need to make a seperate box...I'm leaning to the latter now. Your info is still of much help though. I'll be hoping to post pics of my box soon.
  6. www.hardforum.com is perhaps the best hardware forum.
  7. Yes, thanks. Forgive my lack of electrical knowledge, but we all have to start somewhere. Does the 5v regulator on the core drop the 9v down to 5v? If so then the single 9v power supply should be enough for the whole setup (albiet not long lasting), right?
  8. Bump for more intrests. I'm using the 8050 chip and the 6 batteries will provide 9 volts. It should be ok to use the midi keyboard's power supply with thi set up correct?
  9. Inspirational. After i finish my current one I may look into building a dual sid (stereo perhaps) with the 8051s so I can power off of a pc molex. But thats thinking way ahead.
  10. Ok, just to clarify...you have your sid synth built to take up a drive bay on your computer? And judgeing by the "cd in" you have all the wireing internal? Thats a pretty unique idea if i'm reading correctly. Any pictures?
  11. http://www.centsible.com/ Do a search there for 8580. 14$
  12. I purchased a 8580 from a site. I'm at work now so I don't have the link readily available, but I'll post it when I do get home.
  13. This is great, will look forward to this once I'm finished building mine.
  14. Hi guys, I stumbled upon the midibox site looking for some midi electronics project to play with and am just amazed at the prospective ease of the MBSID. All the hard work and technical knowledge that would usually be out of my current reach has been taken care of for me. Now, I have most all of my parts on order, with the exception of the power supply. See, I would like to build a basic single MBSID with step A controls into the case of a Yamaha midi keyboard I also have on order. Preferably to wire the keyboards midi out to the MBSID's midi in internally (or perhaps with a short external cord to keep the midi ports usable). The keyboard says it pulls 35ma off of 6 AA bateries or 2 W off of an AC adapter. Could I power both the MBSID and the keyboard off of the batteries, even if I have to use more than the 6? My intentions are to make this portable and self contained so that I just have to plug into my amp.
