  1. Es uno cloudio!

    Uno cloudio?

    Si, uno cloudio!

Ay ay ay! <serious> Reporto especial - uno cloudio.

/Cuts to images of panic, old women praying in the streets etc.

With thanks to the Fast Show, and apologies to any spaniards out there.

  2. OK, this is just embarrassing. After a couple hours messing with soundcard settings, wading through the XP-10's awful menu system while constantly repeating "It's gotta be something weird with this new keyboard" and looking for the magic menu setting "make things work" I look under my desk and what do I see?

    A 15-pin D-sub plug.

Like the kind that should really be connected to my soundcard.  :-[

I swear, some days it's just not even worth getting up in the morning.

Thanks S1, Goblinz - I know the question was pretty damn stupid to begin with, looking back. Not as stupid as I bloody feel now tho  ;D

  3. Hi All,

I recently acquired a Roland XP-10 that I'm trying to get talking to my computer. I've hooked it up to the MIDI cables from my soundblaster (I know, I know...) gameport, turned off Midi Local on the XP-10 just like it says to in the manual, and... nothing. I've got no midi going into the PC, and when I send stuff from Midi-Ox the XP-10 gives no response. Has anyone on here come across anything similar? I'm pretty certain that it's not a problem with my PC, since my old keyboard controller (an ancient Evolution branded as a Commodore) worked fine and the only thing I've changed is the keyboard.

  4. Roland JX-3P with PG 200, slightly broken (brilliance fader, volume pot both damaged):

Seller wants £379.99 buy-it-now or best offer, plus £35 UK postage. Unfortunately for antipodean midiboxers, he'll only ship to the UK, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

  5. Anyway, the fan I used came from Maplin, I can't find it on the site, but they have it in store, cost £4.99 and is the only blue LED 40mm they do.

    This one?

  6. It's the bastard child of the vX ... I had to put that to bed until we get a more powerful core. The thing works great with just 4 tracks, but many more than that, and it went to poo. Timing slop, corrupt midi, dropped notes, core reboots, you name it.... and 4-6 tracks is of little use when you're doing algorithmic sequencing. Not to mention, that was using internal memory and no CS (i drove it by sysex and CC's and preset sequences)

I learned a lot from doing the alpha though, specifically, what not to do... and learned a few more things watching the MBSeq in the meantime as a comparison (the track handling in mine is different but seeing what works for mbseq shows me what works 'under the hood', and why, which teaches me what I need to do in my own case)....

So the new one does things a bit differently under the hood, but with a lot of functional similarities (and borrowed code).

If it ends up anything like what I read about the vX a while back, it's gonna rule. I'm not one for hardware sequencing, but I'd build one just due to the sheer weirdness you've got going on there.

  7. Wasn't some original Quake soundtrack by Nine Inch Nails? I remember the nailgun ammo boxes having the NIN logo on them.

Trent Reznor did the music for the first Quake game, then id software contracted Sonic Mayhem for Quake II and Quake  3 Arena.

Does anyone have any of the orginal unreal Music, (not tournament), some of the atmospheric stuff was amazing.

Anyone with a copy of UnrealEd and the first Unreal game should be able to help. You can export the .umx files to .s3m's in UnrealEd, then play/convert them in Winamp. I'd offer to do it for you, but I only have Tournament, not the original unreal.

  8. I've been working on a sequencer forever now, and am fast approaching the first working build with a CS.

    [snip!]

I'll post some pix once the prototype boards are here in a month or so.

    Is this the mythical vX?

  9. Luckily a user posted a quick how-to process :

    http://www.danielprice.org.uk/synth-diy/sid_2.htm

    That was me  ;)

    This has been very helpful

    Thanks!

Just to re-iterate the message on the page, make sure you look at the pin assignment of your Bridge Rectifier very carefully before using that layout - the one I used when I made my PSU apparently has a different design to most. Nothing to worry about, but just make sure the correct wires go to the right terminals on the chip.

  10. Keeping the same 1A wallwart and switching to a 78S05 will not do any good ;) If the wallwart delivers a max. of 1A it's not gonna get any more by switching to a different voltage regulator.

D'oh! completely missed that bit. :-[

2A wallwart, then a 78S05 to make use of it  :P

  11. Sorry about the confusion... No offence taken, I don't want you to do anything else!

I was just making a joke about myself being compelled to remind people about the non-standard bridge rectifier ;D (while reminding people about the non-standard bridge rectifier).

No problem. As always seems to be the case on the 'net, it's hard to judge exactly what tone someone was trying to take.

  12. ... and every time someone references that how-to, I say "He used a bridge rectifier with an uncommon pinout causing more than one person to burn out their transformer because they wired it up incorrectly"

Feel free to quote me in the wiki page you make  ;D

When I made that page, I wrote next to the circuit diagram (quote)Bear in mind that your rectifier and regulator might not have the same pins in the same places as mine(/quote). After you pointed out to me that mine were non-standard (I had no idea, I just got 'em from the local electronics shop) I made the text bold to draw attention to it.  No offence meant Wilba, but I ain't sure what else you want me to do...

PS: Yes, I know the page is horrible. i was a lot younger then, and didn't know CSS. Or good taste.

PPS: Even worse, that's as far as my MBSID has gotten yet - work, girlfriend, life etc. Gonna have to order some parts soon, to get me back into it...

  13. Damn thing came back at the end of the night tonight. >:(

When I hauled the keyboard out there, one of the three dead keys had mysteriously "fixed" itself, then the other two showed up when I powered it up a few hours later. Don't you hate those type of failures??

    George

Damn, that's even worse than having to fix it yourself - there's absolutely nothing to say that the problem won't come back, typically at the worst possible moment.

  14. Seriously, was I the only one who wondered what the context of the naked ladies was? Just the concept of it cracks me up! :D

Me too, like are we talking full on x-rated watermark images here :o  :o or just line-drawings ?

I actually downloaded this purely to see what the context was I hasten to add, and... there is no context to it whatsoever. The background on each page has been replaced with a rather attractive brunette who leaves nothing to the imagination.

  15. Individually controllable breadth and depth for both this *and* that! that's killer! And it has industry approval from Good Housekeeping! I want one in my rack right now...

Unfortunately my power strip can't supply 12KW and my rack won't hold 130lbs...  :-[

  16. Blender's the biggest and (probably) most popular free 3D app, but the user interface sits somewhere between the cockpit of a 747 and a space shuttle, complexity-wise.

My preferred 3D app is 3D Studio Max, but that's about as far from free as it's posible to be - I'm lucky in that I got an educational licence from when I was at university and "forgot" to uninstall it when I left there. Hmmm, must get around to that one day.
