  1. you also mite want to consider drawing out your desired mixer on paper. this will solve a lot of the questions on how much parts you will need which will lead you to decide which midibox is right for you.
  2. hey foona where did you get those knobs? they look similar to the EHC knobs i want to purchase. just curious what manufacturer they are from and the cost. nice box btw! cheers!
  3. you should ask yourself. 1) how many channels do u plan on using in ableton 2) how many knobs / channel do you need 3) how many additional non-mapped knobs will you need (sort of like a buffer in case you need more later on) based on those questions your 64E might turn into a full featured 64.
  4. haha. i havent specced how many buttons/leds i need yet. spare a knob for an poor midibox bum?
  5. ok well hopefully my two DINS and two DOUTS will be sufficient i ordered two EHC alluminum knobs today. they are fantastic, but incredibly expensive. anyone know any alternatives? here is the link to the EHC knob http://www.alliedelec.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?SKU=904-6007&SEARCH=&MPN=PVL-19B-2&DESC=PVL-19B-2&R=904-6007 i have about 54 knobs on my mixer so buying the EHC knobs would cost roughly $250
  6. currently i have two AINs which supports my 64 pot mixer. i was just curious as I had seen places where mention using 4 DOUTS / DINS on a single core.
  7. does anyone know how many DINS / DOUTs the Mbox64 can support? Is it two each? Or four?
  8. hey stryd, im going to compile the building of my midibox in this forum, that way it will reduce the threads in this forum. http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php/topic,11847.0/topicseen.html
  9. i have a bunch of tact switches, leds, and knobs arriving in the next week, so once i decide on the parts i am going to start building the front panel. i've started a design in front panel express but i find it difficult to measure. anyone know of a similar cad program i can use?
  10. didnt change anything. simply substituted the pot for the fader and the pic would reset. the fader might be damaged ill have to try another one. .
  11. I have decided to post my weekly updates on here. I will be building a 4 channel controller for ableton using concepts from the Maven, Mackie and Aurora controllers and also from my own personal design concepts. parts from smashtv. very professional! midi box core and other stuff almost complete testing the ain for the first time determining the layout
  12. for now i just have a single pot connected. i tried using a Panasonic 10K Fader but the PIC keeps reseting. Also the layout for the board, some pots are missing.
  13. alright, so i grounded the unused pins, and voila, was able to get some midi data. i even went as far as testing it out in ableton and it worked. will post some pics soon.
  14. OK my first attempt using the MIOS studio failed with the file http://www.ucapps.de/mios/midibox64_v2_4a.zip file http://bp0.blogger.com/_ZdR1AjzO6Bk/SIHysW-sNUI/AAAAAAAAAA0/JpQsUTYTKqY/s1600-h/untitled.JPG I turned off the PIC and tryed again and stuff uploaded. I am now getting random midi notes (which is good, since i dont have the unused pins grounded). I also found that the MIOS studio crashed. Likely due to an overload of midievents coming from the PIC. I confirmed this in MIDI-OX and I am getting lotsa random events. Will report back later with more findings

  16. I should add that my MIOs is v1.9F and PIC18F452
  17. Ok so I have the core built and my first AIN. I hooked up a pot to the AIN to verify that I am getting midi into my computer however nothing is coming through. 1) When I load the MIDI-OX the SYSX hex values are F0 00 00 7E 40 00 01 F7 2) I have verified across Vs to Vd is 5V both on the AIN and Core 3) And also verified that when I turn the knob the voltage changes across the pot 4) I also have confirmed using another midi device that the MIDI-OX is detecting midi signals Is there anything I am missing?
  18. makes sense. at the moment i am just buying 1-2 parts per order, for sampling purposes. once i actually make a bulk order i may do it via mouser
  19. i was looking at the schematic however it stated ground the pins only if you leave out a 4501. i have 4x4501s mounted onto the PCB, however for testing I am only going to use one of them, hence why i asked if they still need to be grounded. ;)
  20. The documentation says to ground the unused pins not connected to the AIN module when a 4501 and the pots are missing. My question is, if the 4501 is connected but no pots are, do the unused pins still need to be grounded? jamie
  21. Currently i own a UC33e controller that uses the mackie emulator midi events. It allows me to use the up,down, left, right, play clip, play row features for ableton. This allows me to not require a mouse while using ableton for djing. Does the midibox support this? If so, how would it be implemented and also where would documentation on this be? Regards, jamie
  22. After getting ripped off by Mousers shipping rates I am in the search for a good Canadian distributor for parts for building my midibox. any ideas/suggestions? they need to carry such manufacturers as ALPS.
