  1. This "fume vacuum" is working really well for me so far - i did move my work area to shorten the length of the tubing which made it pull much harder. I will not go without something like this from now on.
  2. I see what you are saying now - i had not read your post carefully. I guess it would also take some practice if all these controls were assigned to different parameters or effects ect... ect...
  3. maybe its just me but after setting it up and using for about 5 min i never gave it another thought. Its like my part on screen goes where ever i think it to go.
  4. Would you care to share how you made your homebrew cnc mill?
  5. I would like to see the base removed and just have it from the led ring up sticking out of a MB... at this point I cant be picky about the manner in which it gets used as i do not yet have the skills to integrate it myself in any way. Ohhh i forgot to mention that in addition to tilting f, b, l, r it also pushes in these directions as well, but you dont even have to think about it when you are using it.
  6. http://www.amazon.com/3Dconnexion-SpaceNavigator-3D-Navigation-3DX-700029/dp/B000LB41BM I talked a co-worker into getting one of these and it is really hefty and just as good as my $400 version. This one might be interesting too with buttons all around the side... http://www.amazon.com/3D-Connexion-132100002-3Dconnexion-SpaceTraveler/dp/B000BU6Y68/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid= I love logitech products ;D Since using I cant believe anyone does 3d without this. In my hand 8 hours a day. I want to see implemented into a MB.
  7. Sasha - Congrats on the CDM spot! :D http://createdigitalmusic.com/2008/07/04/a-dreamy-prototype-for-ableton-live-control-finally-mimics-ui/#more-3620
  8. Anyone considered this as a possible "joystick" for a MB.. i use the spacepilot to control solidworks and other 3d apps. and its a dream. smooth motion - flawless - you can get just the knob for about $50.. tilts forward, back, left and right.. pushes up and down.. twists clockwise and counter. is this worth hacking- would it work? http://www.3dconnexion.com/
  9. GUT IT ?!!!!!? :o I don't even know it. ;D Maybe if we get to know each other - - then after a while... well you know... all those buttons and switches and all....
  10. http://www.vimeo.com/1274841 (well....if you could call it playing) :-\

    Score

I picked this up at goodwill for $45 - tons of fun so far. And i haven't even plugged it into Ableton yet! :o
  12. I am refining my setup. Cutting the length of the vent hose in half greatly increases flow. Looking for a quieter solution but this works for now. I can cut the dryer off with a switch by my foot to reduce noise. I have been practicing soldering and gathering more tools. I think i can solder my core now without ruining it.
  13. Im going more for documentation for myself than an instructional. Ill put a warning: Do not under any circumstances copy what you see here - its most likely incorrect!!! (Searching for what GROT #1 means now)
  14. :WARNING: Adult midiboxer content!!! Best in headphones with eyes closed. Go to the beach at the end. 8) http://www.hotshare.net/audio/65000-962731870d.html
  15. Heyyy!! are you reading my mind :o.... i was planning to do the same thing :-\... Mine will be a bit different though... see you when i finish practicing ;D
  16. Ohhh Man!! :o This is perfect for me so far ;D - spells everything out for you from the start but looks like it gets real deep. http://www.allaboutcircuits.com/vol_1/index.html EDIT: So far this is really written well!
  17. Im just trying to take everything in... i dont have much free time to read as i would like. We would just have to see when the time comes.. im pretty much in with the president of the company, but everything would have to be go very smoothly. Right now im just putting out the feelers everywhere i can and we will see what happens. I have a mountain of learning in front of me and i would love to give back to this community... so keep in touch
  18. Well she has been surprisingly cool so far... but she really could never know where this is headed. (not that i do) I just hope to know what you guys are talking about in your posts soon...right now all this troubleshooting you are going thru is like greek to me :-\

  20. Wow!! How does 0 bytes get downloaded ? thats almost as funny as the short tune joke.... ;D Ok, lets try this then: EDIT: http://www.hotshare.net/audio/64396-1003623072.html
  21. Here is a tune i made in ableton .. the mix needs a lot of work, needs more variation in all parts, more instruments added.. .ect. ect. EDIT: http://www.hotshare.net/audio/64396-1003623072.html
  22. So lets say i want to add a bunch of faders or even more leds or some joysticks or a toaster oven to this config? Is that where i get into adding another core?

    Faderbox

Im going to use this thread to document my midibox journey, to get help, and to possibly help others that are new to this. My project will be called "Faderbox" (a take on Faderfox (which i love) ) ;) I have no prior electronics experience and no programming skills. However i am an industrial designer at a rapid prototyping company and have access to a number of manufacturing processes that will make construction of the control surface a bit nicer. So far i have spent a lot of time reading and i am beginning to gather what i will need. I started getting some practice soldering by desoldering a power supply....... EDIT: This was not the best way to learn. Just go get a few pcbs and about 100 resisters and go to town. After reading about the hazards of solder fumes, i decided i needed a ventilation system..... my first core kit from smash ... here is what you get when it arrives.... I think im all set to begin soldering. ;D
