I just bought an m-audio 1by1 for about 40$, pulled the pcb out of the case and jumpered the wires underneath the pcb's so i would'nt need a bulky cord and it works well too

I am guessing you got the parts from smash? if so, go to his buy page and then scroll to the bottom and check out info. there he has all the scematics and descriptions of how everything gets wired. its going to be similar to the ones you see in ucapps just rearranged a little bit so that everything works with the 5 by 2 pin setup. http://www.avishowtech.com/mbhp/info.html this site has pretty much everything layyed out. i used this in combination with ucapps to figure it all out. the labelling of the pins on the silk screen will help you lots.

well I am pretty sure i got everything working right now and usb power seems to be ok. thanks for the help. will give updates when i get everything else underway. need to hold off on buyying knobs and buttons because of school :( but will do test soon.

OK so I've made it a little further. I got the power off the USB sorted out and working. i took out the voltage regulator, and soldered 5V from usb in and it works. i ran mios studio in windows afterwards and routed midisport out to studio out and midisport in to studio in and was unable to get anything to show in monitor (blank). I tried to upload the midibox64 hex file on, it showed a few error messages and then ran pages of text for about 15 seconds then said it succesfully uploaded the file. prior to that neither of the indicator lights for midi activity were light at all but now the input to midisport is continuously light and i can get the output light to blink if i send test from my mac's midi setup page. still no activity in midi monitor and mios studio after that but I'm going to try some more things right now and i might be on my way. will give update as soon as i know I could'nt seem to find a deffinative answer to USB power for midiboxs in search but I am pretty certain now that all you have to do is remove voltage regulator, then connect your 5V regulated power from usb into J2 (this is power point after the power regulating and smoothing circuit). at this point it will be polarity sensitive. and of course make sure your midi converter and midibox combined take less then 200 milliamps Hope that helps someone :) please correct me if i made a mistake

This is my first midibox project so i hope I am at least on my way somewhere right now. I am trying to make a controller for traktor that will connect via USB to laptop. I am trying to connect my core to a midisport 1by1. can I upload the mios or only use it after ive done that using the midisport? to do this i soldered the in from 1by1 to out of core, and out of 1by1 to in of core. I only soldered pins 2,4, and 5 because I read they are the only ones used in a midi connection. I soldered pin 2 to pin 2, pin 4 to pin 4, pin 5 to pin 5 for all connections. I tested the connections by touching inside the midi jacks (they are mounted on top of core still). First I tried stealing power from the USB jack and running it to J1 to use for power, then i tried using a wall wart instead and tried with both 7 and 9 volts with no luck. I just realized i can take out the voltage regulator and hook usb 5V+ up to J2 to avoid the power loss, is this correct? the lights on the 1by1 that indicate in and out are connected will not light up, but the usb connect light is on. mios studio shows no activity. so do you think one of these things in the list is a problem or is it something else? thank you very much for the help!
