  1. S O L D SOLD! I really need some money right now, DEAD_BROKE. I had this project for a long time, never worked, but found out today some ICs were in the wrong place :ike: DOH!! Put them in their right place this time and BOOM! It works like a charm. I've been trying it out and it sounds really good, it can definitely make a HUGE sound. It's got an old 6581 that I pulled from a Commodore 64 a couple of years back... It's been in storage for some time now and I have to find the bag with: the screws for the casing (the long ones) the main encoder knob and the plastic bolts for the audio-jacks (inputs & outputs) Other than that it's pretty much completed. The case is black and the screen is red (LEDs also). I haven't pulled the sticker from the case (nor the LCD) so you can choose which color goes onto the front-panel for the lettering/writing. All my stuff is in storage so the power adapter will not be included (I borrowed one from a friend, but it's the basic 12V +(- type of adapter) I'm in Reykjavík, Iceland and the shipping cost is usually around €10-€20 (for a small package) Lowered to €330+shipping I'm a verified paypal member and I'm in the good trader thread over at VSE (Vintage Synth Explorer, under the name hageir) Thanks! -Geir Helgi g@geirhelgi.com
  2. WOW! Just found my old sammichSID which wasn't working, resoldered some nasty newbie mistakes and thorougly checked all the points (according to the build guide) Still nothing happened :( Then I found an old thread where somebody (like me) was so eager to get his SID sound up & running that he accidentally put some ICs in the wrong place!! I checked those and *bam* there was the problem that had me running in circles all that time :D Now I'm sending an arpeggiator into my Sammich (with a 6581) and it sounds GREAT :D Can't wait to start using it, loving it and tweaking it :D Thanks everyone! Happy 2014!
  3. Ok, I'll check those traces.. The only dodgy things on the board (lower board) are the heat-sink solder joints, because I messed it up and had to use the upper surface points. It wouldn't hurt to know what the continuity/ohm meter should read on that part of the pcb  It didn't work before, the encoder doesn't work either and none of the buttons work  Both headers are soldered.
  4. Ok, I've been sick the last few days (there's a flu lurking around) and to make good use of my spare time I decided to whip out my Sammich (it's been in storage since I moved a couple of months ago)... First of all; The voltage readings are fine (all of them). The sammichCSTest.hex worked fine (all the LEDs lit up like in Wilba's little flash video). The OS uploads/installs fine. I could even transmit the vintage presets to the Sammich (and I see the name of the first patch). But none of the buttons work. Strange, eh? Help a brother out! (ps. I only have one 6581 installed, shouldn't matter and I've got a perfect regulated 12V PSU)
  5. This guy did an awesome job on my old Yamaha PSS-140 (I think) I bought it on ebay and had it shipped to him directly, he installed the MIDI-In upgrade and forwarded it to me! It was an awesome keyboard, I traded it a few years ago :( http://highlyliquid.com/
  6. Ok, I just got a Regulated 12V DC PSU and all the voltage readings are fine now! (I'm still only using one 6581 -if that should be a problem). I tried uploading MIOS to the PIC again (I was in batch 3 with the badly burned PICs). I uploaded setup_sammich_sid.hex again. The LCD text message works fine and the LEDs light up differently when I play different octaves. Only thing is, none of the buttons work! :( *I'm using an Elektron TM-1 Turbo-MIDI to upload the hex/sysex files -it shouldn't be a problem.
  7. Hi! Ok, I finished building my Sammich and I finished uploading the OS and it works! The LEDs light up according to which octave I play on my controller. Only thing is, I don't know if the 6581 chip I have is 100% ok so I can't comment on it.. Also, is it ok to have just one SID installed? It shouldn't be a problem, right? In the guide (8. Installing SIDs) it says do a voltage check on the sockets. I tested pins 28 and 14 and I get 14.40 V! Something is wrong.. There should be a picture of how the capacitors should be lined up in the socket next to the SID. Also, in the main screen on the OS none of the buttons work.. Also, wilba, do you have any 6582's? Maybe I should just buy some from you instead of messing around with this old and used 6581? -Geir Helgi
  8. :queen: :queen: :queen: Well, I just got back home to the project. First thing I looked at: the 12V PSU. AC. Haha, I just remembered that I had a 12V PSU and assumed it was DC, but I was wrong! Ok, I'm off to get a new 12V DC PSU! Funny how small things like that get passed people...
  9. Ok, I just tried flipping it to 9V (6582 jumpers and no JBP jumpers) and it works! I got the pixels! (And on the DMM, I got perfect 5V) What could it be? Am I pluggin the jumpers on JBP in wrong?
  10. Ok, update! I finished building the Sammich. I'm doing the voltage tests. I only get ca. 3V in every 5V point! The screen shows the little black squares, but they're very, very faint (I'm probably only seeing the pixels, not the filling?). When I test the lower floor/pcb is it supposed to be plugged in? ps. I'm using 6581's (I only have one at the moment, I'm getting another one  ) and I was wondering; the JBP jumpers are they supposed to be like horizontally (two, side by side II) or vertically (one going over to the other =)?
  11. Yeah, I just bought a solder-sucker. I had some crappy wick and I couldn't desolder it properly, so the silver-rings came off, underneath the PCB. I went to the local electronics store and he told me to solder it again, but this time using the top silver-rings. It's just a little confusing that the guide shows the regulators soldered to the PCB and then it says you're supposed to mount the heatsinks first :) Anyways, I got a new regulator and I'm gonna finish this now!
  12. God damn it. I accidentally soldered one of the regulators onto the PCB and then figured this out :( It was so stuck, I tried desoldering it (I've got some wick) but eventually the damn legs broke! Should I wait until tomorrow and buy a new one or should I solder some legs onto it?! :D
  13. Hey, the manual was a bit unclear on this; do I apply the compound on the PCB and then place the voltage regulator on top and then the heatsink? Or apply the compound to the PCB, then place the heatsink and then the regulator? *edit* ok, I read it again, with a clear mind and it's correct :)
  14. Oooh! Just picked mine up from the post-office today! I'm gonna start building tonight :) I was amazed at how well this thing was packed and ... Yeah, just the over-all operation! It's genius!
  15. Awesome, awesome, awesome! Thumbs up + high five!
