  1. That did it! She's alive now. Thanks so much! When I took a closer look, I did noticed some crusty stuff near C3, maybe old flux. Could it have eaten away at the trace? I guess I should give the board a good clean. A noob question for you...I thought I could just solder pin 1 and 2 together to achieve the same thing, but this only gave me 5V at C3 and not further down. Yet using an actual wire as you suggest works. Why? In both cases the same connection is being made. edit: Just looked at my solder. It has RA flux which it claims is non-corrosive.
  2. Hello, My sammichSID has been sitting in a box for while, and was previously working. I just took it out to hook it up, and it wouldn't turn on :( I started doing voltage tests, and 9V/12V are all good on the bottom PCB, but there is an issue with 5V. I read 5V at the voltage regulator (labeled 1 in the bottom right of my picture), so that is good, but at the 5V pad of J2, I only read 0.02V. So the problem seems to be near the voltage regulator. I also only read 0.02V at all other 5V test points in the build guide. Am I correct in thinking that I should also read 5V at C3 (labelled 2 in my picture)? If so, I only read a few mV there, which makes me think maybe the capacitor is the issue. But I'm not too knowledgeable in circuit theory so I'm not sure. Would appreciate any help! Thanks
  3. Works perfectly now! Thanks for your time. :)
  4. I verified the version and it is 1.3. Here's another couple of logs. The first one is with Link Stereo mode ON, and the second one is with Link Stereo mode OFF. 1st snapshot: (Lead instrument) Stereo link ON 1. Adjusted OSC 1 Left transpose knob (no effect) 2. Toggled OSC 1 Saw wave on and off (no effect) 3. Adjusted OSC 1 Right transpose (no effect) 4. Adjusted OSC 2 left transpose (no effect) 5. Adjusted OSC 2 right tranpose (no effect) 6. Toggled OSC 3 Left saw (works) 7. Adjusted OSC 3 Left tranpose (works) 8. Adjusted OSC 3 Right tranpose (works) 2nd snapshot: (Lead instrument) Stereo link OFF 1. Adjusted OSC 1 Left transpose knob (no effect) 2. Toggled OSC 1 Saw wave on and off (no effect) 3. Adjusted OSC 1 Right transpose (works) 4. Toggled OSC 2 Left saw ON (no effect) 5. Toggled OSC 2 Right saw ON (works) 6. Adjusted OSC 2 left transpose (no effect) 7. Adjusted OSC 2 right tranpose (works) 8. Toggled OSC 3 Left saw (works) 9. Adjusted OSC 3 Left tranpose (works) 10. Adjusted OSC 3 Right tranpose (no effect) So as you can see it's pretty random what works and what doesn't, and it varies between the stereo link mode on and off.
  5. I get no effect when either the left or right OSC1 is changed, even with the new panel, so I think it's a different issue. Filter controls still don't work, either. Could it maybe be my MIDI interface? As for the drum instrument, if I get a sequence going and try to change the drum sounds, only the knobs for D5 to D10 have any effect.
  6. It wouldn't let me copy and paste the text, so I had to take a screenshot. I was fiddling around mainly with the osc 1 and 2 controls in this log.
  7. Hmm, things are a bit better for me in r945 but still not great. For instance, in the lead engine only right OSCs 1-3 and left OSC 3 controls work. Left OSC 1 and 2 controls are all unresponsive. Neither channel filter section knobs are working either. Another example, in the drum engine the controls only work for D5-D10. Similar thing in the bassline engine; filter controls don't work, etc. I'm using a sammichSID with the latest firmware. The java based editor works flawlessly.
  8. Anyone have this working in Windows? I'm trying it with revision 934. I think I've set up the MIDI correctly since the "Init" button does initialize the patch, but none of the other controls do anything. Have tried in standalone and using the vst with the same results. Edit: Okay, played around a bit more and a few of the controls do work, but poorly. For instance, some of the Env controls work in the multi engine; the cutoff controls have some effect in the bassline engine but they respond quite strangely with a lot of jumping back and forth between values; in the lead engine only a few of the osc 3 controls work, etc.
  9. Thanks for that, I switched it over to 12V - much better now.
  10. Finished my Sammich and in the process of painting right now. It is freaking awesome. Had a question about the LCD I'm using. It's this one here: http://character-lcd-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/details.asp?id=935&cat=Lcds&sub=Character%20Lcd Spec Sheet: http://character-lcd-lcds.shopeio.com/inventory/pdf/AMC2002C.pdf I'm having trouble figuring out if it's low power or high power. Based on how I interpreted the spec sheet, it's low power and I set it that way on my Sammich just to be safe, but it's way dimmer than I expected, even at full brightness - not unreadable or unusable, but still pretty weak. Just wondering if it's not a particularly bright LCD or if I should be setting to to high power. Thanks
