I have now made a picture of the second revision of the vcf board available at the gallery. This has some minor layout changes and also a "cleaned up" silkscreen. I'm having serious trouble fitting it all in there, so if anyone would like to have a go at it, I'll send em the eagle files ;).

I'm super interested in these. Will definitely take 4 boards when you've got them. Can pre-pay if it helps w/ development costs, etc. Will stuff proto boards and test, too, if you want.

      Thanks!

Any new news on the filter boards? My ssm's are taunting me :)

  3. So... heavy snowfall and blizzard finally hit us. Last time wich I can remember it was this way is 15 years ago! 30cm snow in just a couple of hours is extremely unusual around here, I had real problems getting home from work today - had to give up my usual route and find another way home! I got there, and I'm NOT leaving :D

      technobreath

yeah, snowmobile would be VERY handy these days! btw - my office is 25km away - cross country ski trip is SO out of the question ;). No - thank god for the internet - makes it possible to do at least some work from home! hehe.

btw, those pics in the article shows not nearly how bad it really is now - it has been snowing more or less very heavy for 20 hours now!

Thanks, man - but it will take some serious time... alone the soldering will be a nightmare - 2048 LEDs :) At least, there is J on my side down that dark road :)

  5. Hahahaha, I just browsed ebay for ssm2044, just to check availability. Before I knew what happened I hed pressed "commit to buy" 4 ICs :D. Hehe, Guess I need to build some VCFs now :P

sounds cool, but unfortunatly, newhaven hasn't got my choice of color. Need it to fit with blue/black, and either yellow or green combine well with those... :). If there only were white character displays to get somewhere... Else I'll end up with a 20x4 lcd... I'll give myself a little bit more time now to find a suitable oled, but if not, I'll get a lcd off ebay.

    3. jojjelito

      jojjelito

Reichelt have some white OLED(s)! Search 'em :) But alas, no 20x4 in white from Electronic Assembly yet.

    4. technobreath

      technobreath

Tried searching for em at reichelt, 2x16 only for white ones it seems. too bad. But if no, I will buy a 2x16 LCD with white characters on black. And when I can get white ones - I'm sure they are comming, and if they are compatible - I'll just swap em. The enclosure module for the buttons and LCD is going to be one part seperated from the rest of the enclosure, so worst case, I will just have to make a new enclosure for the LCD if it doesn't fit... But of COURSE - Keep hitting me w...

  7. Sorry guys for flooding the gallery with my studio contstruction pictures. Some of the guys at IRC wanted to see the pictures so bad :P.

hawk, u're doin it wrong man. Me and my wife has moved 2 times now, and the first room that get set up is the music room. Now I just gotta watch out and not get another kid while we live here in our current house, then - even I - have to be reasonable and give up the cave for kids room... so by the time we get another kid we will hopefully be moving into the house with my new cave. :)

for your controller, methinks you could well start off with a MIDIO128 V3 and upgrade to MIDIbox NG when its ready - btw the SEQ also integrates fine into a DAW environment, not trying to convince you or something ;-)

    3. technobreath

      technobreath

Hehe hawk, no convincing needed. I definetly want to build a seq, but that will probably come next after that again, or at the same time hehe :).

I have been playing around a bit now today with my piano (I have a digital piano in my studio) and I love good old piano with analog pads on the synth. I found out that I need a midi expression pedal to adjust cutoff on the filter. So that is definetly gonna be part of the next controller.

I couldn't get the Win7 sharing to work.. so I built myself a 6TB NAS server to share my files between my various machines

    3. technobreath

      technobreath

Yep, that's what waiting for me too. Maybe not 6GB, but maybe 4gb. But several other things are more pressing (for my wallet) than a NAS right now, but soon. I have a server, but it's outdated - hardware is old, so I was planning to use it for gateway instead now.

Hehe, my bro in law had his 50th birthday a couple of years ago. We made a song with the chorus being something like: Now you're 50 years, soon you'll be 60 years, in no time you're 70 years old. Then you'll be 80 years and then comes 90 years, and look how steady the stone stands... doesn't rhyme in english but u get the idea :P

News is that today the repair shop concluded that this didn't happen at their bench, therefore not responsible. bla bla bla. Now I'm dealing with the shop I bought the card from. I have written off the data as lost, and now treat it like a normal guarantee case... So I guess that's it. Too expensive for me to get a pro to retreive any data. Not end of world, but still a taste of the sour apple...

    3. technobreath

      technobreath

I kinda get it too, if they refuse that they had anything to do with it breaking, what can one do..? It's my word against their word, and for all they know I could have been placing a faulty card in there to make em pay for getting my data. But I guess I will never ever trust anyone with my data - frankly - I should've known better.

    4. Lamouette

      Lamouette

yeah, and your word are ''light'' against their... i'm qfraid the only thing they will purpose to you is a simply replacement of the card... and I know how much the ''pro'' company charges to recover data on damaged storage (i lost a full disk of personnal data last year...)

      Good luck !

True true hawkeye. Turns out having a kid means a lot more presents in the trunk of the car at the end of the day. But no midiboxes. I saw this electronics kit fro kids though in the shop here the other day, but I looked at it and thought, nah - this is really cheap stuff... It's like buying a kid a plastic hammer - why not just get the kid a small real hammer. much better. :)

  20. Last night, when missus went to bed, and I thought I should also go to bed because it was late. And I saw my two gm5x5x5 boards on the workbench - a while since I worked on them. So I fired up the soldering iron - it needed some pump-work also, so, I sat there pumping and soldering for 2 hours after bedtime. :). That stuff is dangerous, I never pay attention to time when I build, and to not pay attention to time when it's getting near 2 in the morning, that is dangerous. Gonna build some ...

  22. 9 years after buying my M-audio midi keyboard, I read the manual :D, and discovered that I could transpose the notes directly on that controller. Man, would've saved me a lot of mouse clicks @ gigs if I knew before. Lesson: 1: Read manual. 2: Read manual again. 3: Read manual and make sure you have understood the manual. 4: Have fun.

  23. is playing with car mechanics and body work :). Repairing front fender (crushed by the previous owner and a little bit by missus hehe) and replacing a faulty fuel injection nozzle, though I have no idea which one of them are faulty... guess I gotta do a little guesswork :P

yes, the old ones were so rusty, it was fun! The only problem was to get the brake cylinder back, as i could not bleed it (bleeder rusted, too), once again brute force (and some tools) helped :)

    3. technobreath

      technobreath

yep, and here's the secret - the bleeder aint there to help get the piston back either ;) - it is only there to bleed air out of the system in case u change pipes or in some other way have to disconnect pipes. The correct way to do is to use some tools and brute force :D hehe.

Im thinking about having a 19" panel made.. just have the controls over to one side.. the dead space behind the other part of the panel would be where the aouts and filters get mounted. I'm wanting everything to fit in a rack so I can transport it w/out too much effort...

    3. technobreath

      technobreath

I have also thought of doing a rackmount, but I scrapped it as it won't fit my gig needs very good - I need the controls in front of me together with the master keyboard, and that doesn't work too good with a rackmount. But I might consider doing a rack mount for the FM when I build that.
