  1. Actually, the MIDI nes 808 snare was resampled with Ableton's Simpler instrument, where i used a lo-pass filter to get rid of some of the high-end grit (although that is probably what i should be going for). The hats are also just some 808 hat sample (not from MIDI nes). I think i did this because the DCM channel only has mono output, so i could never have more than one drum playing at the same time. Also, for the portion where the key shifts to the relative major, i layered the snare with a generic 808 style clap. Maybe this is what is not working. I will massage it a bit though, and make the hit a bit more nuanced. :)
  2. All the NES bits are using WayFar's MIDI NES technology. Triggering the actual NES via MIDI... The snare was the 808 snare which appears in the sample channel of the MIDI NES. Maybe I should just remove the snare all together? Maybe give it a faster decay? I'll work on it.
  3. Thought I would try to experiment making some classical-esque doodles with the NES, and here is the result: I want to work on more of these, maybe with the goal of releasing a small EP of NES Etudes? Thoughts?
  4. Nice work m00dawg! Your unique blend of surf music and chiptunes is something special, indeed!
  5. Thanks, friends! And thank you Wilba for making the OPL sound available to us electronics newbies!!!
  6. A new track posted on the soundcloud: Not much in the way of MIDIboxing here, but the sammichFM makes a brief appearance with the understated pad in the beginning (sent through a band-pass filter though).
  7. Please add my name to the list for +1! Thanks, Thorsten!!
  8. @Thorsten: I would just like to add (and this is somewhat off-topic) you and your cohorts have really inspired me to start studying embedded hardware in earnest! Working on my Assembly and C chops, although it is a bit slow-going for a noob like me...
  9. Oh wow! What is the the tentatively scheduled release time for this? Will this be available as a kit, or will you supply PCBs and we are to take care of sourcing parts? Cheers.
  10. The latest in OPL3 goodness (a work in progress - just straight presets with no additional parameter tweaking):
  11. Haha, thanks Peter. I wanted to make this kind of hard techno style with the gabba-kicks. I guess it appeals to a specific taste...
  12. Posted this guy on the soundcloud. Arg. just realized the bass line sounds almost exactly like OPL3 track (its even in the same key). I hate it when I rewrite the same song!!! Oh well, take a gander:
  13. @Nasrudin: the only link I could find is via Oven Toast Jam's MySpace page: http://www.myspace.com/oventoastjam/music/songs/loki-5893090 OTJ's influence is kind of a combination of RDJ album-era Aphex, coupled with SNES RPGs like Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy VI, etc...
  14. MIDIboxers, I posted a "remix" of my friend Oven Toast Jam's track "Loki". To call it a remix may not be quite accurate, as it sounds nothing like the original. Features the vaunted TB-303 among other things. Enjoy!
  15. Awesome! Both tracks are epic. The second video and music totally reminds me of YMO's Rydeen.
  16. derp. nevermind. somehow midi interface settings got messed up (i have no idea why, but the midi output settings somehow changed from my previous ones - WTF technology!!)
  17. FIXED: not a problem with sammichFM at all, but rather mysterious voltage phantoms changing the MIDI out setting on my MIDI interface!!! For some reason, sending MIDI output on either channels 1, 2 or 3 will result in sammichFM only receiving on channel one (instrument 1). Sending channel 4 will result in sammichFM receiving on instrument 3 (WTF?)
  18. Thorsten: I would be honored!

    FM Explosion?

Not directly related, but I too can't get JSynthLib to work with sammichFM....
  20. That was funk-gnarls right there.
