DenDer
Hi guys,i just switched from windows to Linux Ubuntu......they co exist on one hard disk windows in one partition and Linux in another partition. Now the following problem occurs and that is that i have no sound on Ubuntu. It is recognized so Linux sees the SB but no matter what i try still no sounds.I've tried this http://www.backports.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4344992 but that doesn't seem to work. Maybe one of you guys came across the same problem.......
cimo
hii assume you have a fresh install of Ubuntu 8.04.There may be an issue with PulseAudioTry this: close all application but one from those who use audioCheck in Preferences if you have a PulseAudio Preference application.SimoneEDIT:https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio

DenDer
Yeah will do......stryd. But first i want to get a little bit familiar with Ubuntu......i've got two cards in my comp and the terratec is working under Ubuntu so at least i have sound now. The thing is that the terratec needs a midi expansioncard that i don't have and the SB has a gameport. I really want to see if i can get midi running under Ubuntu.......we know that the midi on the SB is working(remember stryd?) so i want to get MIOS Studio running on Ubuntu. And as far as i can see and understand i don't have the appropriate driver for the SB.When i give the command aplaymidi -l i get this list: Port Client name Port name 14:0 Midi Through Midi Through Port-0 16:0 Sound Fusion CS46xx CS46XX 20:0 Sound Blaster 16 Sound Blaster 16 MIDI 21:0 Emu8000 WaveTable Emu8000 Port 0 21:1 Emu8000 WaveTable Emu8000 Port 1 21:2 Emu8000 WaveTable Emu8000 Port 2 21:3 Emu8000 WaveTable Emu8000 Port 3 22:0 OPL3 FM synth OPL3 FM PortSo midi is recognized....If i give the command aplay -l the card also shows upbut its still not giving any audio not even the test tone :( Is there a pic burner program (like P18) for Linux Ubuntu???@cimo thats usefull info in that link. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04.1 LTS indeed but i have no preference for PulseAudio and so i will configure it like in the help file. It makes sense.........The installation of Ubuntu was a fresh one yes. stryd_one
Heh, it takes some getting used to a new OS :)So, the OS sees the midi ports... I assume the apps do too... First thing I'd be doing is trying it with a loopback cable...
