Hi,

I just opened a mac lc630 and was looking for the soundchip... i found nothing on the internet about that chip ??? I just know that the ASC "apple sound chip" is inside all mac models from mac 2 to mac 660 except in quadras with the introduction of the EASC "enhanced apple sound chip" (same but adding a pcm output with a sony-built sound chip )... that apple sound chip is very popular  :)

It seems to be 8 bits, 4-voices, wave table synth, stereo generator.

http://www.ozonehouse.com/mark/cv.html Mark Lentczner worked on it.

On the motherboard, I suppose that the apple sound chip is TI 4BA2E9W 343S0129-C, isn't it?

Short auto-reply... that texas instrument chip seems to be as similar as the 2 sony 3430045B chips (found in the se/30). Maybe a production under license for a stereo model.

So... the "apple sound chip" family is 343-something chips and 343S-something for stereo version  ;)

There have been many different chips used for sound in Macintoshes.  I can tell you right now that the LC630 is 16 bit and 44kHz stereo.  The first Macs were 8 bit 22kHz mono.  I have no idea if they're even part of the same chip family, or from the same manufacturer.

In any case, they're not that interesting from a MIDIbox point of view (IMHO), as they've just PCM - they just play and record digitised audio to/from RAM.
