Calliope plans

Has anyone here fiddled with calliopes, particularly homemade ones?  I'm trying to locate an article written by Dave Kerr around 2001 who documents everything you need to know to make an air-powered calliope.  His last-known website was http://www.webone.com.au/~mydav/calliope.htm.  There's supposed to be a .doc file floating around that has all the information and pictures in it.

Try the 'wayback machine'

http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.webone.com.au/~mydav/calliope.htm

Got it first shot!

You will probably find some pictures missing though.

Hope this helps

I should have stated that I used the wayback machine.  I managed to make a composite of all the versions that were archived, but there are still lots of missing pics.  That's why I'm looking for the .doc or .pdf.

NECRO BUMP!  :o

anyhow, i just wanted to see if Davo ever found a .doc or .pdf of this webpage.  i've got a weird urge to build a calliope and an even weirder need for it (purely musical of course).  anyhow, just curious.  if not, does anyone happen to know of a similar page or book that could get me on the road to building one of these?  i've been searching the web a while now and just can't seem to find anything on it.  i did find

that gave me some hope that there may be an article in some popular mechanics archive out there that explains how to build one but, alas, no such luck as of yet.  thanks.  sorry for the bump.  ;)

Google has some goodies:

Building a 43-note Calliope' date=' Part I, Kerr

Dave; #8, p 17.

Building a 43-note Calliope, Part II, Kerr,

Dave; #9; p 4

[/quote']

You can order those backissues on CD here http://www.coaa.us/archives.html

;Maybe this page http://www.mmdigest.com/Archives/KWIC/C/calliope.html will help? They have plans for sale...

The short of it is: There's your document you're searching for, and searching for 'dave kerr calliope' leads you to other hookups :)

I own two calliopes, what do you want to know?

Here's a link to the 'pretty' one:  http://haskey.com/johnh/calliope

The other was built by 'Cozatt'.  You'll see a reference to him at the MMD site.

I have the a copy of the plans from http://www.calliopeplans.com and also the Brill plans that show up on eBay from time to time.

A friend of mine has an original Tangley that he had to make all the whistles for (it was a basket case when he got it.)

is this the calliope that was made using hair driers?  i remember this but it may be a while 'til i can find the link... :-\

Popular Mechanics in the December, 1982 issue had plans for a calliope that was blown via hair dryers.  The article is available here:

awesome!!  that's what i have been looking for!  the 43 note calliope in the Kerr article is a bit much for my needs and i'm sure the calliopes you own are way out of my build/price range as well.  thanks for the links guys and for the offer for info(johnh ;) ).  i'll definitely take you up on that... eventually!
