No that's not necessary - the new envelopes just arrived and now I've got enough to use in the next 2-3 bulk orders ;)

actually I've got the feeling that the ladies at the post office were often confused with all the different destinations and weights, and maybe there are a few cases with orders of 3-4 PCBs that might have slipped into the cheaper postage class. So if someone feels that the stamp doesn't match at all with what he paid me, please send me a pic of your stamp/envelope and I'll Paypal you the excess money (don't forget that the "postage" on your Paypal invoice also contains 20c for the envelope and all hidden Paypal fees).

Hmm, finally weekend so I thought I'd had a go with the soldering iron. Anywho, now I noticed that we have some RC components on the SD-card PCB. The WIKI doesn't mention these. Is there any schematic for this, or should those be bypassed in the event of a CORE_32 connection? Anyone?

Those extra Rs and Cs are not absolutely necessary for operation, so if you don't got these parts at hand and want to start using the reader immediately, the only thing you need is the connector.

The capacitors are there for power integrity/stabilization, C1 is 100 nF and C2 is a 10 uF electrolytic capacitor (2.5mm spacing). Both are the usual types found on other modules, too, no special types or part numbers required.

The two resistors are pullups that are recommended by the official SD Card spec, can be e.g. 1k or 10k. Usually, SD cards will work fine without them but the official way is to put them in.

btw, don't ever "bypass", i.e. bridge/short, anything you don't really know why it's there ;)

Haha, had this been pure analog or high-power pins I would have been really careful. You can get away with more in the digital realm :whistle:

Official SD-card specs... *facepalm*, thought those were secret or proprietary so I didn't bother faffing around with those :fear: . DUH!

*EDIT* 'Twas working fine yesterday. Before this I only had the standard I/O mapping, now I run the full Wilba version with my front panels. Now for some SSM fun...

I kinda want to order my parts so i am able to start. I haven't found any partlist for the SSM2164 VCA yet. I guess Seppoman hasn't come round to it yet. So far i deducted from the photo's the following:

Is there anyone in Germany that would be willing to let me piggyback on their Reichelt VCA and VCF orders, and then ship me my parts? There are some parts that are either back ordered, or seemingly unavailable (styroflex caps) from Mouser, digikey etc.

PM me if that sounds doable.

Actually, those 10 nF xicon are HUGE (10mm diameter)

Those are used on the oakley TM3030,are 1%, and VERY nice (glad I got a bunch of the radial ones when I built mine, i'll definitely try them in the VCF)

One cool thing abut shopping at Newark is that their UK division is Farnell so anything that Farnell carries that isn't available in the US you can order through Newark and have it shipped for a $20 flat fee which is not too bad if you load up on stuff that we cant get domestically

Thanks for the response Altitude... Here is what I have completed as far as sourcing for the VCF... There is a column for Mouser and one for Newark... Fuzzylizard gave me his order invoice from his VCF mouser order which helped a bunch... I'd be interested in what you (or anyone else for that matter) thinks... I didn't bother sourcing the resistors yet through Newark... I can't imagine that taking very long...

Also, I hope it is not improper of me to use this thread for this... if so sorry!

The TL072 is a super common op amp, just look for a different manufacture or a better spec'd chip (595-TL072ACP or BCP). I have a whole tube of the BCP parts so if you need those, let me know. LM13700 are available from futurlec (and I have a few of those too). If you order from futurlec know 2 things: a) order as much as u can, their prices are dirt cheap for just about everything so stock up on alpha pots, headers, crimp pins, whatever. b) they come out of Thailand so it will take several weeks to get your parts.

I'm actually glad I looked up the LRC caps at newark since the radial ones I have (the square ones) wont fit on the SSM PCB but the axial ones that Newark stocks domestically are only 5mm in diameter which most definitely will fit and are acutally smaller and better spec'd than the styroflex parts

Cool, thanks for the info... I haven't ordered from futurlec before so I will check them out. I'm not horribly rushed, since I haven't gotten my pcb's yet, and I want to avoid placing as many orders as I did while building my MB808... I kept realizing I needed 1 or 2 more things... My own fault. Plus I still have to silkscreen or get a vinyl for the MB808... I almost wished I had just forked out the money to have FPE engrave it... I also cannot seem to figure out why my AOUT_NG will work with my MB6582, but will not budge with my MBSEQ... all loose ends I should probably fix before beginning a new project...

the Reichelt Styroflex ones are about 10 mm, too. I didn't want to make the PCB larger than necessary so it's a tight fit, but not impossible to mount (see the pic on the Wiki page).

There is nothing special about the ceramic capacitors on the VCA-board, right?

yes right. usually the larger values aren't ceramic but foil types (that's not bad because they usually have better tolerance). But on the VCA board there are no caps that could degrade or influence sound quality. The worst thing that could happen because of cap tolerances is that the VCA speed/snappiness would vary a little bit between channels.

For the resistors I'd recommend to use the metal type because of the better tolerance. As they're only slightly more expensive and no overall cost factor, you'd rather have the volume/gain levels matched as good as possible instead of saving 20 cents :)

The high capacitance capacitors might be a little hard to find in ceramic type, I guess foil caps are OK as long as they fit the footprint of the PCB?
