Designing an aluminium enclosure

Hi there,

I'm designing an enclosure for a modular project, after having read Schaeffer's "Manual for housing assembly"

What they call "Top cover panel" will actually be used as my main area (top).

2 x 65cm Schaeffer side profiles

5 x front panels (13cm x 26xm each, 2mm thick) = total surface 65cm width x 26cm height (Each front panel has 4 M4 mounting holes)

2 x 4mm / 10mm / any thickness side panels (with radius angles)

2 x "Adaptation panels"

Adaptation panels are 65cm x 4cm, 4mm thick, with cavities to fit Profiles on one side, and Module panels on the other.

Below is an illustration (made with paint, sorry) to explain how I plan assembly.

The problem is the price of the whole thing: 800€...

It's my first enclosure design, so I might miss the point about how to build it without selling my organs.

I already mailed all my files to Julian F, he told me I could save some money.

Do you guys have tips to make such a case, cheaper ?

Bended metal ?

Thanks.

Hi,

you could always let Schaeffer only manufacture the CNC drilled frontpanels and build a modular enclosure from wood, for example.

Also, depending on what you really need, you can save some money in Frontpanel Designer, e.g. by concatenating artwork or text into one single HPGL outline object (if I remember that right).

Greets,

Peter
