Nice Work!!!

I was little irritated by the Silver PCB, thought for a moment the parts were soldered to the (Metal)Frontpanel

Is someone planning on a Bulk Order for the PCB's?

That's very likely.

Hiya,
I have my v4 light built up now with the lpc1769 working and mios 32 opsys recognised in mios 32 studio, what I am struggling with is downloading the v4seq lite firmware from the repository.
It seems I am downloading an empty folder?

So.....can anyone point me to the correct file for download please?

many thanks
Paul

Hi Paul,

just checked it - works for me - all sources there and builds fine (edit: for STM32)... maybe re-checkout via svn?

Greets,
Peter

Hiya,
Hawkeye thanks for the reply but I am just out of my depth with the programming side of things....(always been a bit thick).....I don't understand this bit......."maybe re-checkout via svn".

Any chance of a nudge in the right direction?

cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

I haven´t found any downloadable binary versions of the seq lite on ucapps.de, so I assumed, that you checked out the source codes from the repository and built it by yourself...
If you need it, just drop a line and i´ll send you the current compiled version for LPC17...

Greets,
Peter

Well sorry, I was too fast promising things, that I cannot keep ... when building the ´lite for lpc1769, it says

section .bss will not fit in region RAM
region RAM overflowed by 11344 bytes

I know as of this post http://midibox.org/f...post__p__141176
that it is possible to send certain big arrays to other ram segments... how have you guys already using/testing it built it?

Greets,
Peter

I guess that you forgot to set the MIOS32_FAMILY string correctly, because it controls the memory allocation method for large arrays.

The release.sh script perfectly demonstrates the correct settings - you could also use it to build a proper release with correctly set variables.

However, I will release a first public version this evening together with MBSEQV4

Best Regards, Thorsten.

The first public release V4L.052 is now available in the MIOS32 Download section.

Next weekend I will have some time to write the documentation and to publish some samples (I already prepared some)

The application is running pretty stable and I already had a lot of fun with it!
E.g. yesterday I was trying it with a Vintage Synth (Prophet5) and Korg Electribe from a friend and immediately got some nice sequences that we never heard before! :)

An important note: if no SD Card is connected, the application will hang for the first 5 seconds (to search for the SD Card)
Once a SD Card is connected the first time, a directory will be created under /SESSIONS/DEF_V4L and pattern banks will be generated.
This takes some seconds (ca. 20..30 seconds depending on the performance of your SD Card) - the LEDs will show a status bar, and the MIOS Terminal will show some messages.
Please don't switch off the MIDIbox until this process is finished.

Once the default session has been created, your MBSEQV4L will be available immediately ca. 1 second after power-on, considered that the "fastboot" option has been enabled in MIOS32 Bootloader.

Another important note: most MIDI Fx only work well with Force-To-Scale enabled.
Press & Hold the Scale button to select the scale (e.g. SCALE+#8 for Pentatonic Major), thereafter release the Scale button to select the root node (e.g. #1 for C, #2 for C#2, #3 for D, etc...)
This will be properly documented under http://www.ucapps.de...x_seq_lite.html of course! ;-)

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Hiya,
My cs for the v4lite looks okay................pity it doesn't work..lol.

Just a few questions before I start dismantling it,I have used the following parts .....................

C9 is polybox instead of ceramic (on the lpc core)

SN 74HC595N (on the lpc core)
SN 74HCT541N (on the lpc core)

I believe the SN prefix is the manufacturer and the N suffix is the package style. (on the above chips)

Also I am still waiting for my sd card being delivered, will the v4l work without it?

cheers
Paul

Oh wow! What is the the tentatively scheduled release time for this? Will this be available as a kit, or will you supply PCBs and we are to take care of sourcing parts? Cheers.

@Thorsten: I would just like to add (and this is somewhat off-topic) you and your cohorts have really inspired me to start studying embedded hardware in earnest! Working on my Assembly and C chops, although it is a bit slow-going for a noob like me...

no problem

SN 74HC595N (on the lpc core)
SN 74HCT541N (on the lpc core)

I believe the SN prefix is the manufacturer and the N suffix is the package style. (on the above chips)

It should work with these parts

Also I am still waiting for my sd card being delivered, will the v4l work without it?

Yes, it will work without SD Card, just the boot time is a bit longer, but all buttons/LEDs are configured correctly by default.

Oh wow! What is the the tentatively scheduled release time for this? Will this be available as a kit, or will you supply PCBs and we are to take care of sourcing parts? Cheers.

Release will be today (once I've finished the documentation :))

A kit won't be available, because the handling would be too time consuming.
I will give a list of required parts and possible webshops.
There will only be a bulk order for the Frontpanel PCB (not for the acryl case, because it can be ordered directly - this also gives you the chance to customize the case)

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Hiya,
I found a strange little quirk with my lpc1769 board......here are the details.

If I do not seperate the two halves of the lpc board before placing it on the core board, the lpc will not boot corectly,I spent a good few hours looking for dry joints etc in the header pins to no avail.

However if I twisted the board ever so slightly the thing would boot up....it turned out my fingers were brushing against J5 of the debugging board making the thing boot up.....confused is an understatement...lol.

Anyhow I put my other lpc17 (already seperated) on the same core board and it fired up 10/10....hmm only difference was the debugging board was not attached to this one.......so I attached it via the sockets suggested at ucapps.....aaaaa progress...this board would not boot up with the debugging board attached either........unless I touched J5 on the debugging board.

Took the debugging board from the new lpc17 placed it in the core and bingo....it worked.

So,looking at the ucapps tutorial on the lpc17 it seems that I have done everything that I should have but it seems the debugging board has to be removed for the lpc17 to work........or as is usually the case have I missed something?

Anyhow....all is good now but I thought this might save someone else a bit of hair tugging.

cheers
Paul

Ooof! Thanks for pointing this out and sorry for this time consuming debugging session! :-/

To be honest: I remember that we had a similar issue on Christian's board and just removed the header between MBHP_CORE_LPC17 and J4 of LPCXPRESSO (the debug port), so that it has no contact.

I'm unsure how I have to document this properly so that nobody else is blocked by the same issue.
Some pictures might help?

Best Regards, Thorsten.

morning all!

I'd like to throw up the first of many n00bular questions I'll have, bumbling my way through the v4l.

Would it be possible to rig it up to be powered by maybe a 9v battery? I need my box to be super mobile, for the obvious purpose of sequencing in the forest.

Cheers,
T

I have a question regarding midi channel information while switching patterns:

Imagine A1 and A2 are playing. A1 is set to midi channel 1, A2 to midi channel 2. You also saved previously A3 which was set to midi channel 3 and A4 which was set to midi channel 4. Now is it possible to switch the playback from A1+A2 to A3+A4? If you would setup your synthesizers in such a way, each using a different midi channel, you could use/trigger even 16 different synthesizers, all from a single mb seq v4l, of course only 2 at once at maximum.

Is everything above possible?
