knarleybass
HI, I have had this sammichSID kit laying here, today I am putting it together. I have the Revision 3 board, everything is going well, but, I am at the stage where I line up the pins from the bottom board to the top/display board, the bottom header has 18 holes, the header in the display has 16 holes
latigid on
Are you using an OLED display? These don't use the backlight pins.
knarleybass
honestly, I don't know. It's the display that came with the kit
latigid on
Ah okay, looks too thick for an OLED anyhow. You need to connect the backlight on the right side of the board, i.e. the opposite edge from the header pins. Check the polarity!

latigid on
Wait a sec... The LCD header has 2*8 pins, but they don't line up with the PCB header? Better pictures needed! Don't turn on the power until everything is correctly aligned. Edited December 12, 2016 by latigid on
latigid on
Alright, Presuming you have something like this: http://www.kyocera-display.com/SiteImages/PartList/SPEC/C-51505NFQJ-LW-ALN_Eng.pdf Notice the backlight pins are on the opposite side to "normal" LCDs. Check the base PCB layout. You need to reroute the backlight pins to the base header.

knarleybass
Thanks for the replies, here are some more pics, al this said, should I have a different display? thanks Howard
knarleybass
I am still a little unsure on how to re route the power for the display Edited December 12, 2016 by knarleybass
latigid on
It's still hard to tell from your photos, but it's possible the unlabelled pins on the Base PCB female header are in fact connected to pins 15 and 16. This isn't shown on the current board layout on the wiki, so check with your meter/your eyes to see any PCB traces. In this case, the header assembly should work with no fly wiring. And I bet that's the case otherwise we'd have more troubleshooting threads :). Edited December 12, 2016 by latigid on

knarleybass
Well, I soldered in the display just using the misaligned pins on the left side, and I am getting no backlight, I tried 5v and 12v. Howard
knarleybass
you were right, the connectors on the right are for the backlight, K and A are for Cathode and Anode. once I figured that out I ran some wires. it's light up now. thanks again for your help. now to figure out the rest.... knarleybass
I got it up and running, everything is loaded, and it sounds great. I can't tell if both sid chips are working, is there a way to test that? H
