Finished the Hot Air Soldering for SMD Components video today, for those who might want an easier alternative to drag soldering SMT components, or who are just not confident or comfortable with it.

Its a bit rough around the edges but any feedback is appreciated.
When soldering the resistors theres a nasty shadow and I probably won't rerecord it but hopefully it helps people.

Awesome videos! This is going to be a fun build once I get my paws on one of those.

Both the build video and the SMT video are useful. IDK why people are afraid of SMT so anything that minimizes this anxiety is good

Well done!

Really great job on the SMT hot air soldering tutorial, Smithy - this is indeed a really nice and inexpensive alternative to the classic fine-tip soldering approach!

Also, thank you all very much for the praise of the first part of the build video tutorial!
Will start with the second (and final) part of the tutorial, once the release version case and the final UI PCBs are in! :)

Many greets,
Peter

Genial! It will help a lot!
More than the Seq parts which are used here, this video contains a lot of tips and tricks! Great!

Also, thanks for the initial feedback on the v1.0 wCore boards. The breakaway option and microMatch headers were incorporated!

You're welcome! Your "v1.0 wCore boards" have already allowed me to do a lot of things, it's up to me to thank you!

I will refresh the devPlate design once the shop is open ;)
Ahahh micromatch type, good choice here! This two boards deserved a strong and durable link cable Great! :)

This is great!

And I just finished my SEQ 4.  Go figure.  hahah.  Maybe I'll be a little better at SMD in general (which is great for fixing caps on early 90's gear) for doing this...

So interested in this! I assume CV outs will be an option?

Yup, you will need to build an AOUT module i think and connect it to the DB-25 connector on the back.

Stunning work indeed.

Are you planning an "Analog Expansion Box" with CV/Gate/Triggers/Clocks in the same design?

There's a line driver DB-25 port, so all expansions are external. E.g. Altitude's AOUT, I will probably do one as well or remix my current design

@Phatline: midiphy is the name for the euro MIDIbox shop, officially blessed by TK. :). The shop might also stock up other quality MIDIbox user projects, like Bruno's awesome MBTIA. The focus is on quality over quantity, so we won't stock everything there is, but we want to document everything, that is stocked in the shop as thoroughly as possible, so that it becomes viable for MIDIbox beginners to build.

@AntichambreThanks, Bruno!

Still working on the shop, but we should be able to send out the first core-based PCBs in August (basically all PCBs that were covered in the first tutorial).

Enjoy the summertime! :)

Many greets,
Peter

midiphy: definitivly pushes (up) the idea of userprojects... nieceee.

( the blow into a glowing userproject-nest, to get a wide seen lighting fire )

personally this is what drives me to give them a helping hand when I can, thanking them for giving us this opportunity.
There will be just some basic and obvious rules to respect which we had a little talk ... as for example: good documentation must be provided to be marketed, the creator is responsible for the support of his project..( and logic stuff like that...)

Happy August! Just checking in, like... every day :D

Hows the store front and documentation/awesome videos coming along? Also, sorry if this has been asked earlier but will Midiphy be available in the US, or should people in that region continue to order from modularaddict?

Thanks for your interest! Happy August! Time flies, when there is a lot to do! :)

We are working on it! While orders are not yet being accepted (stocklevel is virtually set to 0, even if nearly everything is in stock), you can already check out a preview of the new shop at midiphy.com - there are very few items yet visible, and we will add more items and documentation in the coming weeks. We hopefully can start selling the PCBs mentioned in the video tutorial quite soon (they are validated and working), but we need to test-build and validate the new/changed PCBs, before we can sell them.

Yes, John from MA stated, that he wanted to resell all boards! Probably, shipping will be quite a bit cheaper, when you directly order from him in the states! As far as the last discussion went, he might not stock every "essential" part, just the PCBs.

A good thing is, Andy worked hard and we have the next PCB fab run inbound, so all new/altered PCBs should arrive in the next two weeks or so. Yaaay! :) If they work out, all V4+ PCBs should be final and be in stock in hopefully sufficient quantity!

Many greets,
Peter

Really looking forward to building this. Thankful for the great effort of everyone involved in the project!

I might have missed this while reading the threads, but is there a Mouser BOM so that I can order the components needed. I want to be ready when I finally get my hands on the PCBs. :)

Today, on 18.8.18, not even 30 minutes to midnight, finally: the shop is online! :)

https://www.midiphy.com

We wanted to launch it today, because it is a nice date and is easily remembered! :)

There might be some stock shortages, a few remaining shop system "rough corners" and not all is yet online, but it should work for now :).
We've also packaged a "kit" containing all the PCBs and "hard-to-get" parts referenced in the first video tutorial at a special price, so you can now haz all parts as referenced in the first video tutorial :)

Builders/owners of early SEQv4+ versions can now get access to the OLEDs, Matias switches, Matias switchcaps, the high-performance superflux LEDs, the recommended encoder knobs and the datawheel, if you are impatient.

We will stock up everything that is sold out, so you could also wait until everything (including the new UI PCBs and Adrians case) is finally in stock. No hurries!

As a remark, the next PCB shipment is rolling in (it arrived already in Germany), that should contain the final SEQ UI boards (LeMEC, and the new JA board) and we hope to verify these PCBs soon, so that they can be sold, too. No big news on the case front as of yet, Adrian is working on it.

Enjoy!
Many greets,
Peter
