How do I debug the core?

3 posts in this topic

Hi I flashed the PIC18F452 with the firmware and built the core. I'm testing it with 9v dc and a 5 volt lcd display but the lcd display is not lighting up but the voltage regulator is getting very hot, what procedure do I follow to debug? where do I look for faults first?

First I would check the core without the lcd and measure the outputs. Second, check if the pins to the lcd are connected correctly.

Its not easy to give you a concrete answer because you don't explain what you did before, these are just standard advices.

Are you building a MIDIbox SID? You should be using an PIC18F4685.

Beyond that, tough to say how to proceed, as you haven’t given us much information. If your regulator is getting very hot, that perhaps points to an error in your power circuit.
