I've finally released MIDIbox FM - a FM synthesizer based on the famous Yamaha OPL3 chip

6 four-operator voices, 12 additional LFOs, 4 additional EGs, 4 wavetable sequences, 5 percussion instruments plus a complete control surface with 2x40 LCD, 5 rotary encoders, 24 buttons, 34 LEDs are handled by a single PIC18F452! :-)

Infos:

Have fun! :)

Best Regards, Thorsten.

Congrats on hitting the v1.0, TK!  Those new samples really go to show the amazing power of the OPL3 - who knew that chip could actually make some cool sounds when programmed properly.

I hope that in a month or three SmashTV will have an MBHP_OPL3 kit ready.  By that time I might actually be finished with wedding plans (ARGH!) and unpacking (STILL!) from the move, and I'll finally have time to finish off my SID and build one. :-)

INCREADIBLE !  :D

Knew these chips were good back in the mid ninetys; though this is sounding way better than i rember ...good one TK ! :)

Finally placed a order in for some pcbs for midibox seq v2, 4x mbsid, & the mbfm :)

...got all the other parts (except encoders).

Jus kept on putting off getting the PCB processing bits for an eternity...

So keep a eye about - i'll have somthing to show soon for all the banter :)

If there's another order going in for these chips - i'll probably want to grab a bunch; to save looking around for yet more old soundcards...

Just  got  some more old soundcards..

One Aztech card did not have a YAC512 but a LS-215 412GH.

I think this is also a DAC, but there are no datasheets.

Will check pin connections to the YMF..

Well, I'll post this here this time instead of spamming TK's mail  ;)

I did happen to find one more card that no one seems to have listed yet: Creative's Vibra 16 (code CT2260). And it includes both the DAC and FM chip, one of each o'course.

Regards, Petri

Edit: I still seem not to be able to spell properly  :-[

Hi, any news on this?

I found the Ls-215 on a Mediamagic ISP-16.

hi there,

found some more sources for the yfm/yac couple:

- Soundblaster vibra16 / CT2810

- Soundblaster vibra16 sPnP / CT2890

both ISA

and

- the onboard sound of some stone-age siemens socket5 motherboard with intel FX66 chipset; out of a siemens Pentium120 workstation

It's too late to determine the PC type now, sorry...

No thanks, I'm not interested.

To give you an impression: the definition and implementation of the MIDIbox FM software took me ca. 6 months, the statement "can really easy adapt it to OPL4" can only come from somebody who never did something like this by himself.

Best Regards, Thorsten.
