SLP
Hi,Some months ago I've planned to build a Dual-SID. Therefore I've ordered 2 SID-,2 Core-, and some DIN- and DOUT-modules. I've planned to use a 8580 and a 6851.But then I read everywhere that it's recommended to connect 2 SID_modules to one CORE for some nice stereo effects.I don't need those stereo effects. I just want to get the maximum out of my SIDs. I want to have a great polyphony and I want to have full access to every SID.Are there more reasons why I should use one Core with 2 SIDs?regards, matthias
Doogy Rev
I think you'll still get full conttrol of both SIDs with a MBSID V2 stereo setup.
Wilba
Technically, you don't have full control over both SIDs in a stereo pair... you can't run two Lead patches through one Core. But for the Multi engine, you can assign instruments to each SID's oscillators in the pair (6 in total). Also the Bassline engine can run a different sequence/instrument on each SID, and change sequences on both simultaneously, so it's a better way to run Bassline than on two Cores with one SID each. But if you have only two SIDs and would prefer to run two different engines (Lead, Multi, Bassline, Drum) at the same time, then using two Cores with one SID each might be more useful. If you obtained a third or fourth SID, I would then recommend they be added as stereo pairs instead of additional engines. However, you say you have an 8580 and 6581, so it would be best to not put them in a stereo pair anyway, they have different filters and a different sound. SLP
Thanks! That's what I wanted to know...I'm still thinking about what to do with my new 2 6582 ;)
Jaicen
So we're saying that the stereo option is the most useful? I'm still undecided how to arrange my SID's, because I have two 6581's (really good ones) and two 8580's. I may also get a pair of 6582's if i'm high enough on Wilba's list, but we shall see! So, with that in mind, and also bearing in mind that i'd like to run poly patches, what would be the best way to configure them? I should also mention i'll probably be driving it mostly from a GR-20 guitar synth, so a poly of 6 would be ideal (if I can get another 8580/6582 pair). In this case, it's a no brainer in that i'd have 4x stereo pairs, but assuming I have only 4 chips, how would I configure them to make the best use of what i've got? TK.
how would I configure them to make the best use of what i've got? The two core x 4 SID solution would fit perfectly. 6 voice polyphony can be realized with the multi engine. The audio channels of the two SIDs have to be merged (e.g. with a small mixer) to get a mono signal.Best Regards, Thorsten.
