Can you change patches with a CC event sent from a MIDI controller? If so, would I have to edit the CORE .asm or the SID .asm to do this? Reason I ask is because some MIDI controllers have patch change buttons built in. Would be nice to be able to use that control surface in addition to the MBSID CS.

yes you can, I use a Oxygen49 controller, it changes mbSid patches and banks without any special config. I think it will be pretty much the same with any controller

Actually it's a program change event which select the patch. CC#0 is used to select the bank

Best Regards, Thorsten.
