Monobass Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I'm interested in peoples thoughts on encoders with pushbuttons... Im guessing there is a trade off between how stiff the encoder is and accidental/unintended changing of the encoder value when pressing a button?Sure if it's filter frequency it might not matter... if it was a note value it could :)There are some at Smash TVhttp://www.avishowtech.com/mbhp/buy.html"Rotary Encoder with switch" Quote
nILS Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 All I can say is that with detented encoders it's pretty hard to accidentally change values while using the button. Don't know about undetented ones though. Quote
Monobass Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 So in the case of a detented encoder you feel lots of little clicks as you rotate the encoder?I'd not considered that is what it means.. I was thinking in terms of 'pan' style pots where there is a single detent in the centre. Quote
Screaming_Rabbit Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I'd not considered that is what it means.. I was thinking in terms of 'pan' style pots where there is a single detent in the centre.... this is not possible with a regular encoder. The 4 STUDER OnAir3000 CentralScreen rotaries (3rd touchscreen on the right of the desk picture) have a magnetic clutch/break, which makes the non detend encoder feel like a pot. - Left/Right stop and center detend.Greets, Roger Quote
Monobass Posted January 14, 2008 Author Report Posted January 14, 2008 Hi Roger, no I did not mean I wanted that 'pan pot' style single detent.. I was just using it as an example. Quote
Screaming_Rabbit Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Hi Roger, no I did not mean I wanted that 'pan pot' style single detent.. I was just using it as an example.I understood you :)I just wanted to point out that it's only possible with some technical gimmicks.Greets, Roger Quote
stryd_one Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 The 4 STUDER OnAir3000 CentralScreen rotaries have a magnetic clutch/break,Hot! Anyone seen these for sale? (the encoders, not the studer ;) ) Quote
Screaming_Rabbit Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Hot! Anyone seen these for sale? (the encoders, not the studer ;) )No sorry, they're custom made 8)The encoder is a regular Alps type which is mechanically connected to the break.Greets, Roger Quote
stryd_one Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I suspected as much.... Thanks Roger :)[me=stryd_one]looks at his logitech MX revo and wonders if the flywheel gear could be misused...then remembers it's worth hundreds [/me];) Quote
