LCD Contrast Voltage (Electronic Assembly Blue Line)

hi, i've got a problem with the contrast voltage. in the datasheet it says it should be in the range of 0V to 0.5V but when it is in this range, the characters are only badly visible (due to white blocks). increasing the voltage to 1V - 1.5V solves the problem but i'm careful, i don't want to destroy the display..

can anybody help?

Hmm..

Are you sure it doesn't say: between 0-5v? That sounds like more typical LCD contrast voltage to me. (Could be a typo on the datasheet)
