1. Thanks! ;D Smash
2. Thanks! The 3D pics were kicked out of Eagle via a wicked set of Eagle ULP scripts (that can be found at http://www.matwei.de/) as POV-RAY descriptions, and rendered with POV-RAY. I'm not even a 3D guy, but I did manage to fumble my way around this. ;) Have Fun! Smash
3. Well, I don't know where to start. Right now the main PA rig is in my garage so I cant even move in there, much less take a picture. Photos of the equipment wouldnt do it justice anyway, I need to collect up some of the pics I have of my stuff in action and post. Otherwise it all looks like a bunch of cables and abused road cases..... ;) If you want to see a very short (30 sec) promo of a small chunk of the light show in action, check out http://www.avicreative.com/showqt/ but be warned, it's 15+megs in size for a 30 second clip. It's basically made from Russel our lighting op playing with a new video cam and Dave the edit boy playing around in Final Cut. If you go frame by frame on the quick parts, there are still shots of me and others setting up and operating the show. I'll make sure to gather up some pics. The ones from the pyro days are likely to be the best..... ;) (man I miss that gunpowder smell) ;D ;D ;D Have fun! Smash
4. Hey all! The US layout boards are done and shipping now, go to http://mbhp.coinoptech.com/ to order. The new US layouts (in Eagle .brd format) are there also in the "info" section with full parts lists, and a visual quick reference showing what goes where. Only Paypal is accepted now, but other payment forms may be supported in the future. Paypal is available almost everywhere, and makes using your credit card or bank account for foreign currency easy. Thanks for waiting! ;) SmashTV
5. Hey all! <soapbox>When you think about building a midibox for someone, just remember you will be depriving them of a valuable chance to learn about electronics. I'm not saying that you should not charge someone to use your hard-learned skills, especially considering all of the hours some of us have put in with a soldering iron. Back in my tech days a free service call was out of the question. 8) Never before has there been such a rewarding project for so little effort, and the magnitude of the features of the MB make the satisfaction factor high, it's really easy to stay interested and motivated during planning and construction. Now that the board release is looming I'll be concentrating on the best possible construction documentation. I have been working on a visual guide to the various boards, and the approach is to make it easy for someone fresh into electronics to build the boards, and learn a lot along the way. Not that the documentation here isn't great (it obviously works fine!) I just want to make it a no-brainer for someone who is still getting the hang of soldering. My philosophy for building for others: Show up with a bag of parts, I'll try to make sure you have everything you need but construction does not happen. Show up with a board you have put together and fired up but something is not right, and I'll stay up all night if I have to with you to figure out what's wrong. I don't remember how the exact saying goes, but you give a man fish, he eats for a day, give him a fishing pole and he eats forever. </soapbox> A lot of pro production people get to see me use (and sometimes they rent) equipment that I have engineered and built, from chain hoist controllers to my infamous "hazer from hell" to the controller running the show, so there is usually some interest about what will show up next. Now half of the business cards I give out have this site address on them, it's great to be able to share a project with them that won't kill or mame a performer or patron if they build it wrong. :) Sorry for the long post! 6. Well, sorry to be anti-help but I'm not using MIOS on my motorfader box (yet). I simply have not had the time to switch over to the current firmware. I have not even run the old 877 test firmware on it either, it worked great the first time I fired it up so I did not tinker further. Have fun! SmashTV
7. Good to hear that Dan! If you have the time snap a pic of what wires go where on the Panasonics so others won't have the same problems (It took me a while switching wires around to get it right too) On the Alps vs. Pana debate, I have to say that the Panasonic feels more like a good old school pro sound console fader when using it, I really like the weighted feel under my finger when I'm moving things around. Easier to make very small adjustments than with a cheaper feeling fader. Just enough resistance to make it smooth. ;) Have Fun! Smash
8. Dan, That sounds like one (or more) 5818 diodes installed backwards. Are you sure your polarity is correct on D1-D32? Smash
9. Hehe, my thought process is way too scattered for that, I would'nt know where to start! ;) I could hammer out a simple layout tutorial style though, let me see what I can come up with..... :) Have Fun! SmashTV
10. Hey all! With Eagle's less than intuitive interface, some of the basic functions are cryptic at best, like copy & paste. I probably wasted a few hours without copy/paste when I started with Eagle, so here is how you do it: This works in the schematic and board windows, but keep in mind that in the board view the "origin" layer(s) need to be visible for copy/paste/move to work properly. This is layer 23 for a single-sided board, and 23 and 24 for double sided. First click the selection tool: Then select the area you want to copy, Then select the Cut tool: And the weird part, Eagle does not actually copy the selection until you click the traffic light icon at the top: Finally click the paste tool: and place the copy where you want it. Let me know if this tip was helpful to you, and I'll dig up a few more..... : ) Have fun! SmashTV
11. The M is in front of almost all 74XX DIP series ST IC's, and the B1® just means it is a DIP package, Tube package (as opposed to bulk or tape&reel for SOP or TSSOP) Sorry I can't be more help with your problem! Datasheet is at :http://us.st.com/stonline/books/pdf/docs/1911.pdf Later! Smash

ROCK!!!

hehe, actually I was just thinking about how the move looks a bit cheesy. ;) I'll keep it moving for a week or so then stop the movement, hopefully the movement will grab attention in old threads. It kinda reminds me of the first days of animated gifs when people would put all sorts of moving crap on their pages and make them unusable. [move]:) Click to see the Midibox world map! :)[/move] On the downside I think this free guestmap tops out at 100 entries, so I'm looking for a better solution. Bravenet will let you make as many free maps as you want though, and they offer a paid upgrade with unlimited entries. If anyone sees anything like this guest map let me know so I can check it out! Have fun! Smash Oh yeah if you think the move is cheesy just remove the [move] and [/move] tags from the above.

Whoop, too many characters in that URL Stephen.... Try: Have fun! Smash
14. I can see the headlines now...."Midibox brings peace to the Middle East, story at 10" ;) Smash
15. Try this: http://pub30.bravenet.com/guestmap/view.php?usernum=2503882551 Be sure to enter a fake email, Bravenet (the map host) might spam you otherwise. Have fun! SmashTV
16. I'm in a suburb of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma US. Right in the middle of nowhere! (at least when it comes to technology) :) Smash
17. Sorry I missed this when you posted it. :) Instead of releasing one layout at a time as testing is done, we (me and a few brave souls!) are testing everything, that way when I do start selling the boards everything, including the USB board, will be available. On that note, everything but the USB and MF modules have been finalized and are in process. The USB board is working but needs mounting holes, and a component or two moved to allow for mounting holes... ;) The MF board is also working fine, but is still a bit close on the tolerances so I have been putting considerable effort into making it easy to produce even in the worst of conditions. Thanks for your patience to everyone who has not emailed me, and to those who have sorry if I did not respond, I can spend my time guessing when they will be ready or I can work on it to get them ready. ;) Have fun! SmashTV
18. Differences: Less jumpers, more home-etch freindly, components used match a Mouser order list. The layouts/orderlists will be public, free, and I encourage those who are inclined to etch thier own boards. :) Have Fun! SmashTV
19. BTW I am working on a layout for the mini-USB right now, so if the mini is all you need, wait on that layout. Have Fun! Smash
20. Actually those boards will have to be $8, The extra size makes it cost more to produce. All inclusive it costs me $6.91 to do this board, so if I price it at $7 and ruin one board in the process, I have to make/sell 77 more boards to cover the cost of that one bad board! At $8 per board I can afford to scrap one board for every 7 that ship, (which is my average right now! ;) ) and that dog will hunt. 8) That one is the most expensive, all of the others will sell for $6-$7. 21. Hehe.... From my experience that the MB has the lowest latency of any MIDI control surface or controller, and that's one thing I notice on every surface I play with. It's even has a faster feel than a lot of the automated mixing consoles out there, like the 03D/02R/01V, even the Ramsa DA-7. The only thing that even comes close is the Peavey 1600x, and the midibox is not just faster, it spanks it. 8) This is just another advantage the MB has over the high priced alternatives! Have fun ;D SmashTV
22. Heya Ian! You can always use a real IRC client, and point it at 64.246.18.104 port 7182. Then a /join #midibox will get you there. :D The java thing is mainly for those new to irc, but it is a real irc server that it connects to. See ya there! Smash
23. EVANMAP01B14 ATTENUATOR $109.55 EVANMEP01B14 ATTENUATOR $109.55 Search using model numbers for the Ramsa digital mixers, but I'm betting all of the motorized faders are around this price when bought as replacement parts. These are from a part number search for the DA7 console (WRDA7). Have fun! SmashTV
24. Special order from Panasonic, and they cost around the same as the ALPS when you buy them that way. :-/ SmashTV
25. check out http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=concepts;action=display;num=1049944101 Modding the Pana faders falls into the "I wish" category.... :-/ Have fun! SmashTV
