  1. Guys,

Some time ago I saw a walk-trough for the control surface  which included loads of pictures and useful comments, I do remember that the 'wife' done the JB Weld using a piping method.

Well I blame it on old age (it's my excuse and I'm sticking to it :-)) but I can't find it again, I have searched and searched to no avail :-(

    Anyone have any ideas ???

    Thanks

    Dave

  2. Hi ssp,

Yes RS can get them but it was the "Orders for Extended Range items with a total value of less than £100 are subject to a shipping & handling charge of £10" clause that bumps the price up !!

If I buy 2 they come in at about £20 so if no one has any 'spare' that will be the way forward :-)

    Thanks

    Dave

  3. Guys,

I guess there must be someone in the UK that has a spare PT-10  :)

RS want £12.xx plus a tenner plus VAT so ends up about £25 delivered

If anyone has one (or two) either in the UK or that can be shipped to UK for less than £25 I would be very interested.

    TIA

    Dave

  4. To be fair to RM, it does cost them quite a lot to process duty and VAT, it just sucks when you have to pay it :-)

The only time I had problems with duty was something from Norway that was sent to me to repair, as it was not staying in the UK it was not eligable for duty but DHL took some persuading !!!

This is going way off topic so probably best I stop my ranting

    Cheers

  5. Thanks guys,

As mine is NOT going in a PT10 and I'm only using 4 SID's and I 'might' do some stuff at audio level I think I will just layout a board. My existing single SID is on Veroboard :-)

Size is not too much of and issue and although I admire the work done by Wilba and Smash I can probably do my board(s) for a similar cost but more importantly to suit my exact requirements.

Good luck with your build and post some nice piccies when done :-)

    Cheers

    Dave

  6. Hi Toneburst, Nice to see you back  :)

I am undecided whether to lay out a new board or go for the boards from Smash, you mentioned customs / Duties. Did the Post Office go the full hog ?? (Duty, VAT, collection fee)

If so (and you don't mind telling me) how much 'extra' did they cost ??

    Cheers Dave

  7. Dont forget that the UK price is + VAT @ 17.5% and is from the extended range which means:

    Quote:

        *  This item is from our Extended Range

        * Orders for Extended Range items with a total value of less than £100 are subject to a shipping & handling charge of £10

        * Please allow extra time for delivery

        * These items will be invoiced separately under a different order reference

        * Extended Range items are only available online

    cheers

    Dave

  8. Have you confirmed the LED's are connected correctly as they are polarized. The Anode MUST be positive and the Cathode at about 0V.

A quick test can be made with a spare LED

    5V-----------560R--------(A)LED©-----------0V

The resistor can probably be as low as 180R (based on 20mA and FV of 2.0) but to test a 560 is good

On most (all ?) LED's the 'flat' on the LED body is the cathode and the long lead is the Anode.

  9. OK, If the Opto has a dot, then that is pin 1 (some has a chamfered side). Inside the opto is basically an LED and a light controlled transistor junction so if the external LED flashes, so should the internal one. The test setup uses a current limited supply (through the 220r resistor) to test the opto so at this stage Midi is not part of the setup.

There are sometimes some minor differences between manufacturers but the 6n138 is a standard opto so you should not see any difference in this application.

The logic low voltage is listed as 0.1V but there is a maximum of 0.4V. As your tests show 1.5-1.7 I would guess that the pullup is too low a value, try a 10K instead

    Dave
