  1. IT SHOULDN'T! I'm KNOW that You build MM emulation on those specs found from internet. (Even that You did it in that short notice) (Well, You told that SX's implementation of Mackie/Logic control is broken.. But THE Pro Tools?? Bye, Moebius
  2. I'm not betting on this, but I think that unbuffered types are the original, first generation CMOS logic. What makes it so attractive to SynthDIY community, is that those are analog devices, that are not being restricted to pure 1/0, high or low operation (buffering probably means something like Schmitt trigger before actual logic circuit forcing it to operate in logic voltages). Noob alert!

Meshuggah, your typical technical metal stuff.. (these guys would play progressive rock, but ain't skilled enough :p) Hardfloor - Hardtrance acperience Freaking 303's in 4/4 and 3/4 beating against each other.. 126BPM I recall. Still f*cking amazing.. And that breakdown. Bye, Moebius
  4. Hi, Did a minute cross reference between HD44780 datasheet and their online "General Specifications" page and I'm willing to bet that it's just another HD44780 compatible display (with some errors on their online reference ;D - in the instruction code chart). Bye, Moebius
  5. Hi, I don't know how d2k battled against jitter.. Please let us know.. but Jurpo, here's the topic: http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=mios;action=display;num=1066834196 With only 2 (to 8 ;)) pots connected, those can be directly connected to PIC. Bye, Moebius
  6. Hi, At least my ancient Sony CD player seems to be easy modification candidate.. But if you mod CD player to midi control like this, remember it's really still the same as pressing the keys.. (so track skipping takes its time ect.) But if that's enough, it could be useful ;) So it will not sync to music, but if you prepare your cues well, you can trigger it playing nicely ect. Bye, Moebius

    Ebay fun

Roger, I'll be watching real hard If I can see YOUR guitar when they hold Air Guitar Playing World Championships here in Oulu again next year ;) Bye, Moebius (www.airguitarworldchampionships.com)
  8. Ok, Then back to the basic debugging.. at least midi seems to work. ;D You know how this works: Regulator hot = a possible short. So do a visual inspection first, and then probe around with a multimeter for shorts. ect. Bye, Moebius
  9. Hmmm... What do you need it to do? Is this just simulating "play" button style stuff? Nothing fancy? Then you could just take a cheap CD player, wire a transistor between those buttons you need to remote control, and use it as a switch, triggered from MB Dout.. Bye, Moebius
  10. Ok, You can order those 1,3W zeners from http://reichelt.de/ Order code: ZD 18. Those microsemi's zeners are not in reichelts product listings. Bye, Moebius
  11. Hi, How is the contrast trimmer set? Tweak it! Wiring problem? (You do have your lcds datasheet with pinouts, right?) Could this be because of THE Rock Solid, standardized Windows Multimedia, or your midi interface drivers - Maybe it just doesn't work in your configuration: http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1094505393 So, if you have your sid app loaded and working you should be able to play it through midi. Bye, Moebius
  12. Hi, (At this point of developement) AOUTs in a SID are the part of the modulation matrix, so CV are controlled from the modulation sources. Unfortunately most DIY VCFs (for example that Moog ladder) do not implement resonance CV, but it's really a simple matter (?!) of putting an OTA (or similar voltage controlled element) in the place of a resonance pot. (Like U3 in: http://www.sowa.synth.net/poly/f_vcf.gif) Most VCF have manual Filter control pot + CV inputs, so filters Cutoff frequency can be set with manual pot and then modulated with CV. (For reference, check that Rick's Moog ladder filter schematics: http://dropmix.xs4all.nl/rick/Emusic/Moog/ Resonance pot = P11, Emphasis. Cutoff frequency pot = P8, Frequency V/Oct CV input = KOV TM/ENV = modulation inputs) Yup.. but I think that you'll be wanting a filter per SID.. Bye, Moebius
  13. Hi, Those are also used in ASM-1 VCF: http://home.swipnet.se/cfmd/synths/friends/stopp/ Bye, Moebius p.s. And for that PAiA, filter: You don't have to buy a PCB: http://www.paia.com/9730sch.gif
  14. I think after THAT midi-ox dump, you have MIOS loaded. ect.. From: http://www.ucapps.de/mios_bootstrap.html Bye, Moebius
  15. Phattline: Nope it won't help you. If you don't have bank account for example in Germany or Switzerland you can't transfer money from a bank account to PayPal account. So you must search for alternative way. Bank cheque maybe? BUT then, those alternative payment methods are usually SO expensive that it's better to find a local supplier. You are in so called Euro zone, so you can transfer money from you bank account to other contries using Euro (and other EU countries, if account you are transferring to is Euro account) and it costs you the same as a money transfer inside your country. So I would look for encoders from www.voti.nl. Bye, Moebius
  16. The best one in ages - at least you still have your sense of humor... Still consider, you made some progress, by getting configuration bits out.. It think that these ParPort programmers are pain in the ass - different voltages, different I/O delays, different chipsets.. Which OS are you using? You might try to use DOS port of broccoli.. (remember PortTalk if on NT based platform) Bye, Moebius
  17. Well, Try doing it again and again and again...Zillion times ;) This is what I had to do. Even after replacing 9v battery with a DC adaptor. (Eventually it worked on both setups).. After PIC was identified, it worked perfect until I unplugged it and changed PIC.. then I had to repeat that repetition ;) Bye, Moebius p.s. I think that I tried changing port configurations, and as it didn't seem to help I just switched it back to ECP or ECP+SPP..
  18. Hi Smash, everyone. PayPal has different features for the citizens of the different countries. I was all excited about PayPal first. Well I don't have a credit card (In Finland you have full citizenship even without a Credit Card ;)) and thought that PayPal could help.. No way: It turned out that in Finland you still need Credit Card to transfer funds to PayPal account - so no luck there.. From: http://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=p/gen/ua/policy_payments-outside Bye, Moebius
  19. Well, From your posts I have read I think that you really don't need very powerful sequencer for you specialiced application, so maybe even freeware version will work, try if Quartz works for you: http://www.digitalsoundplanet.com/SoftwareHouse/Products/Audio_Master/Freeware/freeware.html I don't know if it will follow midi start/stop commands, but it's FREE, with audio tracks. Piezo output

Piezos can give you pretty high output levels, so must be very careful.. don't blow your poweramp/ speakers. (As everybody must have learned the hard way: Start with levels way down ;)) Pre-amping is good. (Comp/limiter would be useful), just watch the levels. Ok, and for the sound: I really don't know ;D If you put piezo on drum shell, you'll be picking up sound of a drum shell, not much of a the head - but as proper drums are (designed and build and..) tuned agains shell resonance, this shouldn't be a problem.. But piezo discs are very cheap, just go ahead and try ;) (and don't blow anything up).. There are some analog drum synth circuits floating around net.. I'm not sure if you should bother with those.. (ever heard that "PIiiuuu", "Disco snare" sound?) Remember this is only picking up and amplifying drum sounds.. BUT: I think that building a EDrum (http://www.midibox.org/edrum/) or building midibox and waitin' for soon to be released (?!) Midibox Drum Triggers (http://www.midibox.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=news;action=display;num=1073069885), even without having a sound module, could be useful. As you have a computer (and soundcard/ midi interface, right?), you already have a sound source to be triggered. Latency is probably a problem (sounds seem to trigger late), but if you get some sequencer software (there are free ones), you'll be having hours of fun just playing some loops to sequencer, and then switching sounds while it's playing back. (Wow, I didn't know I could sound THAT Phil Collinsy) Bye, Moebius Well, read this: http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread/t-7805.html
  21. Ok, Sorry for bashing.. I must read the whole topic from prodigy-pro. The public apology is ok. I still have to disagree on this. Ok, software, MIOS/ Apps are licenced under GPL.. You can use or derive works out of GPL software, even commercially distributed, provided that it's still under GPL. I don't know how Copyright Law sees electronic schematics or PCB layouts. (Well, I think PCB's at least are works of art ;) ) Those are published to public, but those are "Copyright" and "All right reserved". So I think, that what we do is so called Fair Use of the works of Thorsten (and on US board layouts SmashTVs) under Copyright Law. Something like free for "Private Use", definitely not building and selling stuff for profit. Anything else must be agreed with copyright owner(s). I think this should protect MB from commercial exploitation as MIOS/ Apps run on this particular, copyrighted HW platform. Bye, Moebius

    Piezo output

Boys, boys.. Piezo disc actually works much like (pretty thin sounding) microphone, picking up sound from the surface it's connected. (Many electroacoustic guitars/ basses use piezo mics. Done that glueing piezo under the bridge of acoustic guitar, but never got noise level down enough) For triggering it's put on a drumhead, to get sharp transient tone for fast triggering/ level extraction.. but it will sound shit. (damping ect.) Putting it on drumshell and amplifying that will probably result a weird acoustic drum sound.. ;) Bye, Moebius
  23. Hi, First of all: Internet has blurred peoples thoughts about copyright. SMGAUDIO uses pictures taken from Midibox gallery which are subject to copyright. (Remember, even if it's easy to copy picture off the web It's still copyrighted) Then again. MIOS and MBLC are under GNU GPL. This doesn't prevent commercial usage, but gives end user some protection. (At least access to source code) But MBHP is "NON-COMMERCIAL!" Thorsten has clearly copyrights to any schematics (his PCB designs) and restricted commercial usage. As far as I know SMG_AUDIO has no agreement with Thorsten.. So MAY SMG_AUDIO go to hell, or maybe to the court first ;) Bye, Moebius
  24. Hi, Try to search part number in those displays, and then google :) Friend has some alphanumeric displays, and it was pretty wierd connection scheme on those. Bye, Moebius
  25. Hi, Steven_C As far as I remember, It isn't possible to use MIDI/PG-200 same time with JX-3P, but with MKS-30 it is... Sad isn't it :) I sold my JX-3P years ago.. when I wanted to get rid of excess keyboards on my setup. It's good for some 2 DCO basses, strings and strange osc sync klangs. It's a piece of cake to PROM new firmware to EPROMS, but where to get dump of firmware?! Anyway.. Steven and Arumblack, check www.analog.no.. could be useful.. Bye, Moebius
