Hi. Alps has some motordriven pots, but only few different values and those are propably expensive.. But surplus dual 20K Lin motorized pots are 6.30? at http://www.voti.nl/ ;) Check your uCapps Where to order... listing. Bye, Moebius

Hi.. sorry to bug U all, and makin' this a felluva mess! Oh, yes you can ;) By using binary output to DOUT and simple R2R dac, you get variable voltage out. Check http://www.hut.fi/Misc/Electronics/circuits/r2r.html for reference. For analog VU's maybe a 6bit resolution is enough. This is a really cheap alternative, but lot's of soldering. (and few lines of assembly) Bye, Moebius

Hi msc175! I'm interested on your design. But don't undestand german - and didn't find your version of the software from your site. What does your module really do, anyway? I would need CV+GATE -> MIDI NOTE conversion. Do you have that functionality? And how are CV's quantizised during note on's (meaning if cv varies as gate is still on)? Bye, Moebius

And I guess he wants a "Game Controller" driver which uses midi device as control surface ;) Haven't seen anything like that.. nice idea anyway!! So probably writing a custom driver is the only change.. Bye, Moebius

Hi, I guess your asking for something that doesn't exist ;) I came across this project: http://sound.westhost.com/project30.htm But even with "modest" specs (3-band eq, semiparametric mid. 2 aux ect.) it's pretty complex. Bye, Moebius

Yeah ;) And lot's of other dope VSTi's and FX on that site..

Well. you DON'T have to buy a kit or even PCB.. ;) PAIA has a very good attitude towards DIY. So, schematic is there on their website with notes about design. It might prove useful. Bye, Moebius

Seems like Distrelec is one of the "smaller" multinational distributors: http://www.distrelec.com/ has links to national sites, even Italy ;) (and http://www.schuricht.de/ is german subsidiary) Too bad no english language site for (international) european customers from other countries. Bye, Moebius

How to make neat professional diy panels repetedly
moebius replied to Artesia's topic in Tips & Tricks
Nice tips ;) You should probably write Tutorial or HowTo and send it to new Portal! Haven't tried Xara yet as I'm prefectly happy with Frontpanel Designer: Once you master copying/ aligning it's very easy and fast to use. (As it is, what it says ;) ) But it has it's limitations, mostly because it's meant to be used for designs manufactured by Schaeffer.. and it's CADdish. So if I need to add bitmap graphics or something, I "print it out" to PDF using CutePDF (600DPI, up to A0 size ::) ). And as PhotoShop can work with PDF files, any further manipulation is easy. The best thing is that this works WYSIWYG - no scaling or aligning needed to produce "in scale" print out. (and beware of jpg's (may also be used for alternative graphic compression for PDF's), lossy compression method is bad for lineart graphics.) Bye, Moebius -
OR, maybe We, Midibox Forum ppl, could do a joint efford and DONATE a working machine to: Daft Punk or Fatboy Slim or Chemical Brothers! ;D I think each of those would probably pick it up and give it a try, and if they love it's sound, fit it in their studio setup! And then we just have to wait for their next interview with Future Music, The Mix, Keyboard, Electronic Musician or whatever, because as far as I know, they give pretty detailed info 'bout their studio, and use and rave 'bout gear that fits their setup (no endorsement deals) Bye, Moebius

Or If you don't have your VISA (or browser pointed to Google) ready, you could also try http://edrum.for.free.fr/ You know, a bit like "Free in Freedom", but you have to register ;) No offence, Moebius (Being a bit sensitive on any marketing information and commercializing the Internet after SCO's big publicity stunt)

:-[ Isn't rastnet "air wires" or jumpers or something.. I don't understand, what it really has to _do_ with any signals? ??? Go, Eegle , go.. Bye, Moebius

Hi, Analogue Devices Application Note AN-347:Shielding and Guarding is a great resource for "more technically" minded people. Giving detailed information about noise pickup and how to avoid it. www.analog.com -> "Technical library" dropdown menu ->Application Notes.. and there it is somewhere ;) Bye, Moebius

Link from uCapps navigation bar goes to old portal. (-> http://www.midibox.org/main.php) I like the plain and simple color scheme :) But the layout is pretty "busy".. these are first impressions... Nice work anyway, Moebius

Hi d2K.. I think that best way to control that kind of stuff is using ("shaft thru body") normal pots and behind those MIOS controlled motor driven pots (alps), so that shafts are connected. I hope that someone understood what I meant.. no ASCII this time ;) And switches could be CMOS or relays as Duggle mentioned. This method preserves most circuitry intact and probably wouldn't introduce much noise. I know: expensive and mechanically difficult method, but that's _the way_ when messin' around with (well, cloned) pro audio gear mostly found in places, where it's more likely to see 72 Flying Faders than 8 ;D Bye, Moebius

Remembering this topic from a way back as interesting one.. ;) Check Ken Stones CGS module: http://www.cgs.synth.net/modules/cgs46_sba.html It's intended to interface synth modules as guitar FX, but I think that using it other way around is OK too. Just injecting line level signal to output attenuator -> Guitar FX -> input amplifier output is then line out. Bye, Moebius

Other and more general suggestions, maybe: Later versions of Ross phaser uses OTA's (13600), those are CURRENT controlled amplifiers, used in synths ect. Remember your (not so) boring basic electronics cource: U/R=I (R25, http://www.runoffgroove.com/ross_phaser_black.png), so any OTA based design is controllable by varying voltage. (But remember to read OTA datasheet for max Iabc) Many classic phasers (and some filtering fx) use LED/LDR devices. These can be voltage controlled, by supplying leds with proper voltage. GeoFex has a useful circuit for modifying phaser LFO circuits accepting VC: http://www.geofex.com/circuits/ldrlfo.htm Using Vactrol as variable resistor. Bye, Moebius

Hi, defred. As I have read this thread ;) and hopefully interpret it correctly: Drumtriggers are interfaced to AIN with special buffer circuit, for accurate peak voltage detection (in other words: velocity) BUT: Piezos are only sensitive to (speed of) varying pressure, not to pressure itself.. so it isn't possible to detect "note off" or aftertouch with those. Anyway, 4 by 4 matrix of rubber pads sounds tempting to me! Bye, Moebius

behringer.. Ah, Behringer!! I first came across behringer, when they offered Mackie 8bus mixer clone for lower price.. (Well, MX8000 wasn't exactly a clone, but with VERY similar specs: Aimed directly for those considering buying mackie 8bus) AND Now they are doin' same for the DIY project ;D Nah, just kidding.. I don't have anything against them, they have very attractive pricing and stuff.. But somehow I think that "ready made" always lacks some features, or has this "I would have done that differently" factor.. and If there is room for improvement.. well, It's the manufacturer that provides it, IF provides. SO, stay away from those, when you have DIY alternatives :) I have spoken, Moebius

I don't think there are any problems with that If you use same modification to circuit as with core module and 6n136: http://www.ucapps.de/mbhp/mbhp_core_6n136_variant.jpg Bye, Moebius

I spotted that too.. let's give him a nice welcome: "With tight accenting snare roll: "Welcome to the Midibox forum, master1960!"" (and I just woke up 'bout 3 hours ago), Moebius ;)
