  1. Hi all, JUst got my lcd to work. I guess i must have zapped my tianma with static cause my new 2x40 optrex works :) I'm a little confused on the instructions for centering the 2x40 display. Could someone explain the procedure to a coding novice. Thanks, Blood
  2. yes, it is mb64. ok, i'm reassigning them cool thanks
  3. Thorsten, I swapped 'em and the same thing occurs. Would those 3 contacts actually send a midi message or are those MiOS exclusive ( i'm using midiox to monitor since my LCD is not working.) I should also note that the other side of that IC works. blood
  4. ok, so i got AIN working and all DIN buttons work except buttons 1+2+3+4, which are needed to do the menu of course. I doubled check my soldering but 3 of the four buttons don''t work. Bad button? Meter test, no good button. Out of curiousity I try bypassing the buttons and shorting from ground on J3 to the individual pins on IC1 (i.e. pins I7,I6,I5) and still no dice. This works on all 29 other buttons except these. Perhaps a bad 74HC165? I know you can reassign the menu buttons with code but I'm at a complete loss on where and how. I'm gettin so close to midibox meltdown. thanks< blood
  5. Thorsten, I finally grounded the ain inputs to the power supply and BINGO everything works. The DIN had some short circuits from sloppy soldering. The LCD is still glowing green but no messages :( Thanks a ton, Blood
  6. I'm not really seeing any difference clamping unused inputs to ground. I'm only using 16 pots so I left out 2 4051. Should I clamp all unused inputs from J3 and J4 on AIN to ground or just the outputs from J6 A2 and A3 to ground and is case ground or the ground from j5 gonna work, cuz i tried all of these and still no message on the lcd just a green glow and contrast all the way and down and midi messages a blaze. also only button 1 from din sends a midi message all others are dead.
  7. yup, its sending midi messages so its probably my wiring. Its sending lots of midi messages actually over all 16 channels and pretty fast too. On the wiring is VD (CORE) the same as VCC (LCD)? Thanks! Blood
  8. hi, I'm having trouble getting the Tianma 2x40 lcd module to work with mb64. Reading the spec. sheet I noticed that it's controller is a KS0066. I realize now that its the hitachi based modules that work. Is there any hope for these or should I buy another module that is HD based? Thanks, Blood
  9. got it! mios loaded! mbhp64 loaded! lcd flickers with no characters ??? pluggin away thanks!
  10. my core is all assembled and i've connected power and midi in and out to pc (running midiox) i'm not receiving an upload request, however, when I short 2 of the pins on the midi out jack I'm receiving random midi messages (see below.) My pic is alive, but not quite there. Midi jacks wired incorrectly? Thanks, blood TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT 0003D6ED 1 -- C0 00 -- 1 --- PC: Acc. 11. According to the AIN schematic all unused 4051's should be clamped to ground i.e. I'm using 2 4051 so I would clamp A2 and A3 to ground? Which ground? The ground on J5 or J7 or the core or case ground. Does this also mean I only need to connect from J5 (VS+VD+A0+A1) to core? in need of a clue, Blood
  12. are encoders preferable? i'm guessing they are notched incrementably. thanks for yr help!
