  3. Sasa, I don't remember what those F keys were for, but I'm pretty sure the Live manual exactly outlines how the mackie works with it. There's even a special chapter if I'm not mistaken. I vaguely remember those keys to be solo/cue buttons but I'm probably wrong. As for the LCD buttons: Maybe the Midibox LC could store icons, each icon paired with a text string. Then, it would show text on the buttons - BUT if it received one of the special text strings it would show an icon instead. This would probably have to be handled by a second core. What do you think about this idea? What I'd really love would be an MB emulation of the novation controller (the one with LCDs).... Mmmm... 8) Cheers, Damian

  5. Interesting. So what the Megadrive chip adds is a voice with all operators having separate frequencies? Interesting.... Wonder how that works... can it be scaled or does it accept only some frequency values which aren't good enough for musical applications..?

  9. Hey guys, Have you seen these chips? Complete synth engines on a chip. Much like the OPL stuff, but taken to the limit! http://smaf-yamaha.com/what/lsi_list.html Pretty harvestable from old/broken phones... used in very many models = easy access... nice features, too. The MA-7 is of most interest: Only problem - it's some kinda BGA stuff.. but I think the geniuses here can figure a way to solder it :)
  10. So, guys, what are your favourite FX for drums? Let's list some.... Some analog ones: I think autofilters are really nice! Very useful for breakbeats. Chorus for the kick... Of course compressors, tubes... Noise gates and ducking comps... Some filters that are easy to realize digitally: Bit crushers! Crappy compressors that make your sound really gritty Waveshapers Cheapo digital filters for that lo-fi sound Delays (needs ram :( ) Crappy sounding digital chorus

I really wish for a sidechain compressor for compressing the bass synths, triggered by the kick/whatever (alternate from any compression of the drums themselves) Some ideas for common FX: chorus/phaser for snares and other highs chorus for kick overdrive for different kinda stuff Perhaps a routing matrix (like on the MB SID?) would be a good idea, with the routing destinations just being "general outputs" into which you could plug all kinds of FX boards. Like a modular drum machine. Perhaps the same could with routing sources: the routing matrix could have inputs into which you could plug voiceboards. Want 20 kick drums? no problem.. Want just Kick+snare+HH? no problem.. :D This routing matrix stuff would have to be realized in a way which allows x voices and y sends, where x and y are any number from 1 to 1000 What were you thinking?? ;D
  13. Hi! I really like this project. You say you have unused op-amps in there: if I can recommend a use of that, then perhaps try a stereo, (un)linked action, ducking compressor? Playing music live is great and all - but you DO need a compressor to get the most out of the soundsystems at most venues. Also it's a "requirement" for many kinds of dancefloor music! Thanks, Damian

  15. I think Propeller isn't sure enough to invest time into learning of it. Think about some bigger, more common families. Maybe something surface-mounted. Those shouldn't be hard to assemble provided you have a ready PCB... I've seen a video tutorial here on the forums recently where a guy soldered a 96 pin chip in less than a minute.

It sounds to me like both of you want to be very friendly but, because of your courtesy and the language bareer between both of you, the other party always thought that the extra attempt at friendliness is an attack of some sort. Stryd_one, no-one's being unbelievably rude, no reason to get pent up. Sasa, stryd is just trying to help you, and carry a conversation. If you think he's asking too many questions, you have to remember that this project has already appeared on ebay etc, sold, the whole design hijacked with money channeled to some moron's pocket. That was just stryd_one's attempt at avoiding an argument. No thread hijacking here. I say both of you shake hands and stop this mockery. BTW, Sasa, if you can't get some parts in Serbia, perhaps someone here would like to order them for you and send them further by post if you send that person the cash needed? Of course, it takes a little trust... but this place has never let me down. Take my word for it.

  19. What IS interesting in the SNES is the graphics chip. Wonder if that could be used somehow for some live stuff or a GUI... what do you think guys? Perhaps some other video chips from other old computers/consoles could be used. What do you think?

About the multitracking: No, the mp3 was recorded live from a single NES about the SNES: some links http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snes - lists what the SNES audio subsystem can do: http://www.gamesx.com/wiki/doku.php?id=schematics:how_sound_on_the_snes_works So, reassuming... nothing very interesting in the SNES over a NES. You get a PCM wave mixer, that's all. I think there are better ways to do PCM mixing nowadays (chips that are better, cheaper, easier to program, thru-hole, and so on...). Supposedly there's also an 8-tap FIR filter which can be used, for example, for reverbs. Wonder what the possibilities of that are (I don't expect much from that, though).
  21. Hey, The only thing that makes sound in the MBFM is the FM chip itself. Nothing else. The demo TK posted also has analog filters on top of the MBFM and that's all. You'll find the MBFM much easier to work with: it has hands-on controls (knobs etc)!
