    Sequoia V2

While I`m waiting for everything needed to make x0xb0x I`m finishing redesigning of new sequecer based on MBSEQ V3. I almost finished building my first sequencer ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/fibra/281135266/' target='_blank'>) when decided I want some new features so I left first version to rest for some years, or maybe I`ll sell it to somebody who will finish it in some decent time. I am going to use MTEs ice-cube button caps for step buttons illuminated with white/red LEDs. I am thinking to go only with three color combination (red, white and black) but, not sure yet. Like water-cut V2 panel ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/fibra/368803004/' target='_blank'>), this panel will also be made out of 1mm steel, but laser-cut this time. It will probably be powder coated and screen printed. I`m waiting for demo panel for xoxbox so I will decide how is the quality of their powder coating. Frames of side panels will be 5-6mm steel with inner part made out of something :) ...maybe acrylic and maybe aluminum. This is not final design, and like all other things I make, I left some 5-10% to be designed while building. ; ) For bigger picture go to my flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/fibra What do you think/suggest? Thank you in advance for your comments. I appreciate it! ;)
  3. OK, thank you all for answers. I think I prefer 8580 and never tested deeply 6581 even I have few of them as well. :)
  4. I also seen it on hackaday.Cool thing, but wonder how really useful it can it be? I like your idea but what do you think... can you really read the track names from lets say Traktor or Live if output video from PC. I doubt it. :-\ If can, I would buy it right now. :)
  5. Is that something important and what does R4AR means to SID builder?
  6. That sounds good to me too. I would definitely need at least 1. Thanks for your efforts.
  7. I made one PCB for both, buttons and encoder, but than I realized the hight cannot be same because I add another piece of acrilic in the button sandwitch to increase the distance of LED to improve light diffusion. I ended cutting the board and leaving just a piece that holds the encoders. I didnt uses smash kind encoders. Mine are albs for PCB type with no thread and bolt. And,they are very good! Can be dense packed which was important to me as my vertical lines match to the the corresponding section of LCD screen. ;) They dont stick out at all, they are still in the box. ;D What happened... well, In the time I have finished nice watercut steel panel, 2 subpanels, buttons, and it was all mounted except wiring, SEQ V3 appeared and I really wanted those changes on my sequencer so I just cannot decide what to do with it all. So I put all asside. Maybe I will finish it some day, or maybe it is better to offer it to somebody here on the forum who will finish it. I feel kinda bad because of that because it could look good and it is pretty well made. I put hours, and hours only in those buttons, but I really like my new design.
  8. I`ve been called pessimist here on the forum but now you beat me. ;) About those Orient negative LCDs...well, I`ve seen non-photoshopped image, and I must say that it really is not far from image presented here, but it is certain that picture is "optimized" fort web (shop). ;D I definitely need to get at least one for myself. Green becomes bit boring, and blue make me sick. Red or white, especially negative are very nice. Ah, .. PLEDs!? :'(
  9. Well, I don`t believe that combination will look good. Better make it red blue, if you really, really prefer those blue LEDs. ::) I always draw my panels in Corel so I can compare side by side all combinations and decided which one looks best. Sometimes is very hard to decide.
  10. Steve, here is the drawing and Corel file of parts I designed for mounting the trackball. You need to find laser cutter to cut 3mm acrylic. You just need to stack the angled sides at the center part and glue blank square on top, and plastic piece of trackball onto it. Use the holes at the bottom part to mount this thing and adjust distance from panel by combining spacers or bolts until you are satisfied. Pay attention on hole on the panel to be smaller than the ball, so ball wont fall out of the controller. I hope you understand everything, if it is not clear, just ask. ;) PS, if you don`t have access to laser cutter make those elements out of wood. Sure, forget those slots and just make plain triangles and squares. It will be same except it will look low-tech and it takes more time and effort. Oh, how I LOVE lasers! ; :P Have I told you I find the service that will cut steel with laser for me? 5mm... no problem! ;D trackball.zip trackball.zip
  11. Hey Steve, that is very nice panel! Also those flat buttons goes very well with minimal square design of your box. I was sure you are planing to put touch-pad in that hole, but trackball would be cool as well. If you use red LCD as you said this optical trackball Is my worm recommendation. Also, it is very good for mounting.
  12. ;D ;D ;D I understand the guy`s frustration, but when it is commercial product it is OK to listen to most stupidest questions you can imagine. It is obvious that this guy rather do only electronics, but than he needs to let others to take care of commercial things and customer care. I hate to deal with customers myself... but as it is my job I need to be nice even I would rather tell them to go to hell. Customer is always right. I hate it, but is IS truth if you want to earn money.
  13. Not sure I understand you what actually produce buzzing. Does your SID buzz when powered from that PSU or brick buzz itself? Transformers can buzz if the its metal plates have some air between so vibration occurs because of the magnetic flow. That could produce buzz. If if buzzing happened in your speakers than it could probably be capacitor.
  14. I learned from last experience with shaeffer... when asking the shipping price they go to online calculator of express services because they dont have they own shipping cost list for every country. And all those express services cost alot! Shipping to Germany is 60$ is also unacceptable. I don`t know how much Americans are among us, but I think it is best if each of you US people order parts individually. It wont be much cheaper to combine the orders. Parts I need from Mouser cost just 13$. I dont remember how was with Digikey. For people from Europe it is probably good to order it together like... all people from germany, all from UK or something like that. I really have no any experience in ordering from US, so I`m hard to propose good solution. It must be some European who ordered sometimes from Digikey or Mouser? No..?
  15. OK, what do you know about them? Is there other cheaper way to order from Digikey? Sure, you can help but I`m not sure how. I didn`t get good answer from them. I wanted to order some parts and ship them later to toy with panel or something, but I`m not sure how to do it. Maybe you can give us some propositions. Few crucial parts needs to be bought from Digikey... absolute and regular encoders, pots and button caps. From Mouser we need some other specific parts like polystyrene capacitors and other pots. The rest (except rare parts) are usual components that can be found in every store.
  16. This is the answer on my question regarding shipping costs from Digikey. I asked what would be the prices for shipping very small order shipped to Serbia or Germany. It was Germain Digikey but I`m not sure is the Digikeys instance in Germany, or it is only one in US. Didn`t get complete answer, as always. This is extremely expensive if you ask me. We dont need 1-3 days delivery. What are you experiences with Digikey?
  17. Well, I can get pretty cheap panels but that cheap company uses CNC mill so all squares must have 2.5mm radius (bits diameter) which is OK to me as I am making custom buttons for my x0x, but all of you will probably going to use original x0x buttons that have square buttons (without radius). So I contact metal laser cutting company as laser have no angle shape limitations and I am waiting for their offer. I`m afraid you misunderstand me. This is not a kit. We need to find best way to get all parts. I sourced all parts and found cheapest distributors, but they are scattered all over the world. If I managed to get some of rare parts, I can ship it with PCBs, but for now I didn`t get any. I will get some parts as soon as I find some money, but not all of them. Parts needs to be bought from different supliers. I would be very thankful for that, as it is not easy to get everything from Serbia. There are two distributors we need to order parts from Mouser and Digikey. I already made a project list in mouser for the parts we need for mhem, but still need some information about shipping cost. What is the best way to order from mouser. Should it be done by somebody in US or it is the same. Rare parts are not big problem at the end, as they are not bulky, they are all in Europe so shipping cannot be very expensive. All suggestions and experiences form the people that ordered parts form Mouser and Digikey are very welcomed. Ladyada is the main reference for everything! I created my excel BOM with links to sources and prices according to ladyada. It would be very advisable for all of us to read all regard x0x from that website! I did it. Very good website and not so good forum!
  18. The airmail signed shipping, packing and custom check (necessary in Serbia) is about 10 EUR. So final amount for bank transfer 47 EUR for set of PCBs. I send emails with payment details to all people that confirmed the order. I think is not good idea to wait for answers about final price for panels so you can make payment, as it will delay everything. I have got no money to pay PCB production from my pocket, so I really depends on your payment. There are 3 different company that I like to use to make the panels, one do metal laser cutting, another anodizing and my laserman do engraving and all are on different parts of Serbia, so I decided to do same as willba, to provide PCBs, and sort the panels later and maybe ship it with some rare parts if i find it till then. We`ll see. ;)
  19. I get an answer from PCB company. The price for PCB set is 37EUR I`ll check the shipping costs today, but it shouldn`t be more than 10EUR
  20. Thank you ultra. ;) Not at the moment. Huck offered me help in getting the parts from US. He could order 2SC1583 from them and ship it to me so I can include it with the PCBs. I will order 2SC2291 and LA4140 as soon as I find some money and those can be sent with PCB as well. Anyway, I will send email to all of you who confirmed the PCB order about any news regarding the x0x.
  21. Hi, I`m back from vacation and closing this batch. I am still waiting for the email confirmation from reboot and nebula. I will send new gerbers to the PCB company today and will have final price for set of PCBs. I sent panel design to the metal laser cutting company and awaiting for their offer.
  22. Don`t forget me while I`m on vacation. ;)
  23. Sure you can. ;) If you somehow dont see the mail in my profile now, here is a temporary email: dzeneralmidi{at}yahoo.com
  24. Oh, sorry. I thought it is hidden only if you are not logged in. I`ve changed it now. Can you check it again please. If I log out I can see hidden, but don`t know do you see it if you log in. I receive so much spam I will need hole day to clean it after I got back from vacation. :(
  25. Too bad this is only normal pix of Albs products. I wonder what part number are some of those especially the other opaque Waldorf one - looks best to me.
