Jaw-dropping! Congratulations Ander!

Congrats jbartee, that thing looks amazing!
-
hey julienvoirin, the knobs come from Radioshack they are pretty close to the moog knobs
nILS: Sorry this indeed does not qualify as a user project - it's a midibox64 - should I delete?

Thanks for you comments!
Ssp: I glued the side panels on with hotglue in hope that I wont need to open it up any time soon.
Hot glue works really well with wood and it saved the sacrifice of drilling holes! :sorcerer:

Hi All
I just finished my minimoog controller and thought I'd share it with you!
Features:
Simple design: Used 1 core and 2 breadboard ain modules.
Bus powered USB: I took a cheap usb/midi cable (ebay) and hard-wired the midi input and 5v from the usb port directly to the core.
Dimensions: Front panel is considerable smaller than the original minimoog (designed to sit over my MB SID keyboard)
Front panel: 100% front panel designer
switches: Cheapo rocker switches spray painted and wired as pots (to save the hassle of building a DIN Module )
I don't have photos of the inside but you can see it's ugly guts in this video:
Thanks for looking
All the best

Great news! Keep it up! :D

analogue_mo, it's quite doable.
This was my first dabble at woodworking and I found it to be quite easy.
I had already sanded body filler on my car and found the wood much nicer and easier to shape.
and Wilba, thanks for the Sids they sound Great! ;)
Now to somehow make space on the panel for a IN to OUT feedback pot... ???
-
Very cool piece of kit! Congrats!

:)
Thanks again for your kind words!
The keyboard if from an old ELKA synth. I rewired it's keypads to a DIN module on a separate core which sends the midi to the SID core.
Here are a few videos of the process:
Debugging the midi keyboard:
<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>I accidently switched a couple wires on the DIN PINS so had to write a routine to correct it (easier than rewiring everything)
Staining the wood in my best shirt... Not recommended
And finally
The inside is pretty much the same mess and the images Smithy kindly linked us to above except i recently discovered the wonders of cable ties. Great to identify loose wires when tied in little bunches at the ports...
I Hope this inspires anybody for a wood design!
Cheers
Ps: puddingbrumsel, the bottom right says Smith it's my signature - works in the ego department :)

Thanks for the comments!
The sides aka love handles are nice and chubby for a fatter sound ;)

Hi All
Just finished making a wooden frame for my sid keyboard.
A lot of sanding and blisters but the efforts are rewarding
Thanks for looking :)

cool thanks I'll give it a shot

Hello
Just wondering if there is a way to use say 88 ains on a single core?
I would like to experiment with the coils of a fender rhodes for an eventual Midi retrofit.
Thanks!

Hi again!
Here is the FPD for my midibox. Have fun!
keep an eye out for my next project - installing this stuffed ASM2 http://www.elby-designs.com/asm-2/asm2.htm mainboard inside this moog rogue shell.
vcos vcas and vcfs will be modulated by MIOS_SID software via AOUT_NG. I'll design a faceplate as close as possible to the sid CS and try to benefit from all the cool features this CS has to offer (presets - mod matrix - lfos env etc)
the most challenging will be to stuff all that including bipolar psu in the case but it should fit with a little hacking.
I'm very excited about combining of the SID CS with this analog modular.

Thanks for the comments :)
Yep the faceplate is glued from behind with .

Hey All!
Thanks for the help. It does indeed make sense to have a separate core in there just for keys.
I actually used Thorsten's design rather than Matrix but the front panel is clearly based on Wilba's design
Here is a porn shot of the thing (not as nice as the outside) :
Bontempi sure rock! I love their toys - This one in particullar! It was allready stuffed with midi sockets, a nice power supply etc and the keyboard matrix is ready to hookup out of the box!
I designed the FDP on my pc laptop that I gave away but I should have it on Hdd somewhere. I'll be sure to post it if it shows up.

Hi All
i finally got around to building another all in one midibox sid since the tragic loss of my first bondo based edition that fedex broke (rest in pieces) :P
I built the front panel into an old bontempi organ that is really nice and heavy.
I have one core driving 2 sid modules and would like to hook the 37 keys to it.
I guess the logical path would be to put them on a 6x7 matrix but:
Here's my question: Will the core handle the extra button matrix instructions in a reliable way or should I consider building a dedicated midibox for the keys.
Thanks in advance for your advice!

Thanks so much for your time. I will try this asap! This is really going to add excitement to my moog!
Thanks again

thanks stryd_one
I don't want to sound lazy but please could you paste me an example code if you have one so i can put your explanation to code. I've never tried programming beyond the Mios functions
Thanks

Hi,
I'm using a midibox cv to midify a Moog rogue but would love to convert the synth's cv out into midi using an analog input.
Right now, I am usgin port J5 as Dout for trigger but only need the first 2 pins as outputs.
Is it easy to redefine say pins 3 to 8 of J5 as analog inputs?
Thanks in advance for your insight
Best regards
Alex

Thanks stryd_one !
Wow Mios just gets better and better! Big ups to all

Hello all,
I have an aout_ng module I wish to use to midify a moog rogue, but can't recompile the setup_default.asm with the right interface_Type flag.
I get this:

I've been very busy with my new job and have unfortunately been away from midiboxing for a while so I might be forgetting something stupid.
Thanks for any advice

Ps: be on the lookout for my latest all in one Sid keyboard I'm building to replace the one Fedex broke, it's gonna be a killer ;)
A commercial SID synth that look damn familiar (seen on MESSE)
in MIDIbox SID
Posted
Hello,
I designed this and it ain't a midibox. I have already made a couple of those in the past ( both were midibox SID of the week, search "alkex sid") and wanted to build something different.
This was initially a self-challenge to build a sid synth with more of a groove-box approach, focused around composing beats and patterns.
All the instrument patches are crafted in software.
Here's a video of the wavetable editor:
This machine is AVR based and coded from the ground up, datasheet in hand as a fun challenge.
I have a boatload of respect for TK and have always played by the midibox rules but I'm now grateful to have met Michael from Mode Machines in spite of the history with midi-box (which I was well aware of).
He, his team and other developers I've had the pleasure to meet via him are great creative people that I am proud to associate with.
Now you know :)
I love both my midibox sids and the groovebox, they each serve different purposes and live happily in harmony in the studio.
Best wishes from the dark side!
