  1. Hiya Wilba, I had a play with siddump and also TK's siddump_convert.pl, but the process required after the use of the perl script is a bit tedious, and to be honest beyond my abilities to translate the output of the files which are created to actual patches to load into the sid. I am glad and greatful tho that these tools exist at all and that people have taken the time to make them. For example here is a bit of the result from "Cobra" track 1 Specified time: 0:00 --- starting with frame 0 | Frame | Time | Freq Note/Abs WF ADSR Pul | MBSID Wave Transpose Att Dec Sus Rel | +-------+-------+---------------------------+--------------------------------------+ | 0 | 0:00 | 0000 ... .. 00 0000 000 | 10 +00 (+00) 0 0 0 0 | | 1 | 0:00 | 0342 G-1 93 41 192C 600 | 04 2F ( 2F) 8 72 16 96 | | 2 | 0:00 | 034C (+ 000A) .. .... 614 | +00 +00 ( 2F) ... ... ... ... | | 3 | 0:00 | 0356 (+ 000A) .. .... 628 | +00 +00 ( 2F) ... ... ... ... | | 4 | 0:00 | 034C (- 000A) .. .... 63C | +00 +00 ( 2F) ... ... ... ... | | 5 | 0:00 | 0342 (- 000A) .. .... 650 | +00 +00 ( 2F) ... ... ... ... | | 6 | 0:00 | 0338 (- 000A) .. .... 664 | +00 +00 ( 2F) ... ... ... ... | I don't understand what all of these values are or how to translate them into MBsid parameters via the editor, nor do I know what represents notes and what represents tonal configuration. I can read the categories at the top, but the vaules are in hex or somthing arent they? Surely for the general population of non programmers it would be nice to have something more user friendly to do the task?? Something aimed more at musicians? What I was hoping for would be an extra step so you would strip out the first info from the song with siddump, then use the perl script to translate it to mbsid talk, then another step to convert that output into a set of midi notes ie a 3 channel midi file, and seperate to be able to identify each used sound and save out a .syx file ready to dump to the sid of each sound. I guess identifying what is a new sound would be hard as its just all a series of changes. Im not a programmer so I dont know the ins and outs of it but could you look at what makes up a sound, and what are "modulators" of that sound per track and a scripts to output 1 .syx file for each used sound on each track and also make it generate a text file describing the used modulators? Maybe you could extract the sound from the modulators by identifying the initial sound as a starting place and small changes after that to be called modulators, and large changes to be called new sounds? You might land up with more outputted instruments than you want but thats not so bad. If the system was really smart the midi file could also have the option to translate the notes on each track into either normal midi notes {like that program you send the URL for - thank you btw for that!} so you could use other instruments to play back sid music, or alternativly you could map the mbsid cc#'s to one midi track allowing the playback of the sounds via midi as if being played from the emulator? It would be awesome if someone who knew what they were doing could make that all work and streamline it into one application or script {not a programming request just a wish!} Am I just dreaming to want to be able to play back the exact sounds of "The Last Ninja" or "Cobra" in my own compostion via midi? Is it all too hard?? If anything more every happens on this front, please let me know. All the best, John
  2. Thanks TK, I will do that tonight. Are many people making this project? I have to say it is awesome and totally worth doing! All the best, John
  3. Thanks for the info, in that case if the group buy is still going I will commit to buying 2xYMF262 and 4xYAC512. Please email me directly if anything is happening :} All the best, John
  4. Hi all, Just got the sid player going on my sid, this is awesome! Would it be technically possible to make an application which could extract the sounds in a sid song and convert them to .syx to dump to the sid when its being used as a synth? I know its not quite that simple, but what would be required to get that going? All the best, John
  5. Hiya TK, That was the first thing I tried as you suggested it for my sequencer which has the same encoders, but when I added the 2 on the end I got a complie error in the assembler. When I removed the 2 on the end it compiled fine. All the best, John
  6. Thanks m8 :} Also, I know its not about the midi delay, but I recall seeing an mios LFO box which would send CC#'s but couldnt find it anywhere. Do you recall it? Know where the info is at?? Cheers, John
  7. Hi all, I have built a TC control box which is all working fine except when pressing menu I noice I can not see the first 4 programs, it goes demo bank thru to program 5 in one step. Also all values are going up in steps of 5 at a time. Im guessing its probably the encoder settings in the application? Can anyone tell me if this may be correct and how to change it to a smaller value. The encoer is the one from smash's shop. I tried editing the mios_tables.inc file and changed MIOS_ENC_PIN_TABLE ;; encoders 1-16 ;; SR Pin Mode ENC_ENTRY 1, 0, MIOS_ENC_MODE_NON_DETENTED ; detented encoder at pin 0 and 1 of SR 1 to MIOS_ENC_PIN_TABLE ;; encoders 1-16 ;; SR Pin Mode ENC_ENTRY 1, 0, MIOS_ENC_MODE_DETENTED ; detented encoder at pin 0 and 1 of SR 1 which helped a bit, but it is still almost impossible to make a certain number come up for a bank number. It is a bit better than it was tho. Thanks! John
  8. Hiya, I was keen to try the application out, but the download link is not working. Has anyone made a front panel for this yet? Thanks, John
  9. Hiya, You can all download loads of free high quality DCE Records tunes from the link below: http://www.dcerecords.dnsalias.com/terms.html Included is the entire set of releases from 94 - present including some great live shows performed with the likes Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, Dirty House and Juice Records, Belgium's Reload Records crew,Dave Clarke, Marco Carola, Adam Beyer & Cari Lekebusch, and HMC to name a few. hope you all enjoy it :} John aka Ivy Mike from DCE Records
  10. Hi All, I just finished making my pic burner board I ordered from mike. Maybe its old news but I only saw any reference to V1 anywhere so I thought I would post a photo of the V2 I just made for reference if anyone wanted to see one. It has the adapter built in for the 16F pics so you dont have to mess about with making one. All the best, John
  11. Hi, If the group buy is still happening count me. Im not that familiar with the OPL module, whats the difference between the YAC512 and the YMF262? Why can you have 2 of the YAC512 and is that better or doe you need all of them in there? In any case if theres an order I will be in for at least the minimum to build the FM synth, maybe enough for 2-3 of the units. Can you chain the OPL boards like the SID to have more in one box? Thanks, John
  12. Not that its that important, but there is a performance mode on the TX81Z which allows you to have 8 midi channels going with single operators {or more with less midi channels} running seperate, I thought that the DX100 was a single operator FM synth, if not I stand corrected. A freind of mine used to have a DX100 and described it to be like that.
  13. Aftet thinking about it a bit more I think that maybe before the edit button seemed to work, but looking at my application setup I had it sharing a button with select 5 so what I thought was the edit button was probably just activating the menu. What is the normal behavior of the edit button? I have no Dout do only the LTC in/out leds which makes it hard to tell if something is happening. Nothing happens on the screen but I guess maybe the button is working but not doing something obvious. Accoring to the site edit does this: So with no LED, I could be in edit mode or not and not see any change?? If thats the case it may be better for me to not include it or I could be saving over patches with edits all the time which wouldnt be that great. Perhaps this is the same for cc? I swapped in the application setup edit to cc for a moment to see what happens , I pressed what is now cc and changed some settings but I did not see the out light from the LTC do anything. Since the button is not dead as it works in midiio128 but edit, or CC dont work when assigned to it as far as I can tell, I dont know whats going on with it! I also tried swapping over in the setup the select 1 and 2 buttons which are known to be good with the edit and cc buttons, and I get the same result ie now when I press select 1 or 2 I get nothing happen. Ill swap them back to their normal state now. Can someone explain the normal behavior of pressing edit or cc? Also is it possible to run some LED's from the core without a Dout so I can have the edit light?
  14. Hiya, Tried to download the update but I got a 403 access forbidden. Thanks, John
  15. Thanks Ixox I didnt implement that button on my control surface so no wonder it didnt occur to me :} Is there anything else you need a button for that the menu wont let you change? All the best, John
  16. Hiya, I did test it all on the bench before putting it in and it was all ok, but that wasnt with the encoders just the boards. I did consider swapping the core with my sid, but its the only thing I have left that works and its all sealed up in a difficult to get into case, so Im reluctant, but I know my memory board issue will be gone in one second if I did it. Its just way too much work. Rather than sacrifice the SID i will be swapping over the core with a V4 one from smash as soon as it gets here. One thing occured to me today... How many people have V2 cores, from mikes shop or otherwise, which work with the 8 bank memory board? Its odd as I have 4 v2 boards and 1 v3 board. All v2 boards worked with the memory to begin with, then the memory chips blow {I think as I had to swap them out to use in my SID} and no matter what you do the memory never works again, my V3 board from mike works with the memory without any problems. Strange odds?? A board fault? Id be interested to hear how many people may have the same problem? Or people with V2 cores who might be able to test the 8 memory bank board on theirs? As far as the rest of the sequencer, theres a lot of pain in front of me but im going to get there somehow.. Cant wait for my order from smash to get here! Also I just quickly uploaded midio128_v2_1c again to see if the encoders still registered, this is the results: Encoder 10 - when turned left cc33 val 127 occasionally cc32 val 127 randomly when turned right exactly the same. Encoder 14 - when turned left cc34 val 127 occasionally cc35 val 127 randomly when turned right exactly the same. Bear in mind, these are the encoders which in the seq app do not do anything when moved, but randomly generate their own values sometimes usually G8 note. Thanks again, John
  17. We did try a spare encoder which is known to work. Remember that the core also has the problem of not seeing the memory too so I wont rule the core out as the problem. These two tiny problems, the encoders and the memory not working are doing my head in!! :}
  18. Hi All, Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldnt find any info on it. Is it possible to configure the SID to send the panel controls out the midi out so as to record them into a sequencer? Mine doesnt seem to be doing that but im certain the midi out works as mios studio is using feedback from the core fine. All the best, John
  19. Hi All, I have made some progress on the SID's control interface. I have uploaded the new code here: http://www.dcerecords.dnsalias.com/Working_SID_mod.zip Can someone have a look at it in relation to my DIN diagram which is here: http://www.dcerecords.dnsalias.com/my_din4x.jpg All of the select buttons 1-10 are now working, the menu button is working, the cutoff and resonance controls are working but only in the downwards direction not upwards. My problem is that my edit button which previously worked now does not. Im pretty sure the configuration in the mios tables is correct for it. Also im still having trouble with the three buttons for the filter menus and the three for the osc menus which are shown in the jpg. All of those buttons seem to do something, some do what I want others dont. Any help would be great!! Thanks again, John
  20. Hiya Mess, I tried the updated code and it did remove the text from the screen, but obviously did not turn off the backlight. Looking forward to seeing this come to be, cool to see such quick progress! How would the multiple displays be handled? All the best, John
  21. A friend and I had a big debugging session on the sequencer last nite, and got nowhere! However there were maybe a few hints to the problems with the step 10 and 14 encoders. When the IC on SR 8 is removed there was no more random values being sent to either {usually they get random values from power up which land up going to G8 note eventaully}. I swapped the IC a bunch of times and we checked out the bottom of the board but it seemed fine, but still no solution. Step 10 and 14 still didnt work and encoders around them do, sometimes when turning the encoders around them it will move 10 or 14s values too. We tried swapping all of the ICs from SR 8 onwards. Basically we landed up where we started! I had the idea that maybe since all the other buttons and encoders work except these ones that if I added an extra SR to the config in mios tables then I could assign the encoders to it and mount a new chip. I edited and compiled the code, connected up the wires, uploaded the hex but im still getting the same problems. Im guessing that either theres a much bigger problem, or that my code didnt work. Ive put the code online at: http://www.dcerecords.dnsalias.com/ivy_mod.zip and a PDF showing what I have changed at: http://www.dcerecords.dnsalias.com/mbseq_din_v2_mod1.pdf Can someone have a quick look over the code and pdf to verify I didnt mess it up? Thanks again!!! John
  22. Hiya, Just downloaded the code and will try it later today when my seq is not in bits all over the workshop :} Also I was wondering, if you can red LED a display, what other repairs if any are possible? I have 4 or 5 40x2 character displays I wanted to use for MIOS which arrived DOA or got that way after very little use. Whats the chances of their repair? Mostly the backlight powers up but either the black blocks appear and nothig else, or the blocks have lines in them, or nothing but the backlight comes on. Not a big deal but if anyone knows how to reapir them maybe I dont need to order my next 4 or 5 :} Maybe if other parts are required to do this task with the screen saver it would be worth making a little LCD utility board which has these parts but also has a "break out" for easy twin LCD connections to avoid a lot of messy wires which mine currently has :} I noticed that the 40x2's never seem to be pin to pin with the core anyway. Perhaps the trim pots could be moved onto that board too for easier access? All the best, John
  23. Hiya, Any left? If so how much? Thanks, John
  24. Artesia, There all great suggestions. I think since different people would use it differently this option should have a place in the menu system so that people can set it to dim after 5min, turn off after 15min and be able to be turned back on with the first input, or to always be on. Maybe a midi message via sysex could trigger these behaviours too? The reason I mentioned the screen saver in the first place is that in my use of the seq so far I spend an amount of time making the sequence, and then walk over to the other side of the studio to tweak the synths etc it is running. If its a good pattern I may be over there for a while! In this situation, the screen is on with no need for maybe a few hours straight with no need. Im also more inclined to leave the power on for all of my gear rather than save things some times too, which leads to prolonged use of LCD's. One of my kurzweils is currently waiting on a backlight board swap over and maybe screen because I work like this. Its not an easy thing to get! Also older gear where the screens are getting dim are no fun to use. Im just thinking in advance ways not to have these problems in the future with my new MIOS gear :} If people do land up making suitable code that could be implemented we will need to try to co ordinate with TK for it to be included if it fits into a newer release of MIOS Im guessing? Is this possible with the current space constraints with the pic or maybe one to leave for the new pic? All the best, John
