  1. MIDIbox V1.74685 has been released as an interim solution for everybody, who is planning to upgrade to V2 later, which will require a PIC18F4685. A first alpha (incomplete) release of MBSID V2 can be expected in one or two months. Until then, just use this version and enjoy the new possibilities! :)

    wow! great news!!!

I remember reading that with the PIC18F4685 it is now possible to connect two Sid modules to each Core, for 'kind of stereo' effect. The Sids cant be controlled separately in this case, they are always linked.

I think Wilba used this in his wonderful MB-6582.

Can anybody post wiring schematics for such connection?  TK? Wilba?  Thanks in advance!

  2. Hey comrades!

Did anyone managed to get hold of a PIC18F4685 and tried Sid v1.7 with CAN ?

Is a public release for PIC18F4685 version MbSid v1.7 planned soon?

The full featured PIC18F4685 version of the bootloader, MIOS and MBSID V1.7 is already distributed to experienced users.

I'm waiting for feedback to ensure, that everything works flawless before new users are starting with the overworked firmware - this is to avoid an immense support effort at my side for this new technology.

    Patience please!

    Best Regards, Thorsten.

  3. In the meantime i found a solution to "tune" my PAL NES  :)

I used an LT1799 Frequency generator as Crystal substitution for the CPU clock. Now I can tune my console in a wide range.

    greets

    e-toy

hey e-toy! can you describe in more elaborate detail the mod you did to your PAL NES? I also run Midines on a PAL NES and would really appreciate your advise!

  4. honestly, I don´t understand why you are in such a hurry now. For MBSID 1.7, you probably won´t get a real advantage with using the CAN Pic, and V2 programming has not even really begun. I will definitely wait for the official release before resuming work on my new MBSID. Ok, I already have one, so it´s not really urgent ;) . But it won´t be a big deal for you finishing the MBSID 1.7 in it´s current state and exchange the PICs and change a few wires when time has come.

I can understand this - I'm in exactly the same situation with my MBSID now - I just wish I can do the CAN wiring, put the PIC18F4685, close the box and never open it again for rewires etc - just upload V2 when its released....  :))  and use 1.7 on PIC18F4685/CAN before that....

  5. maybe someone can write a simple MIOS test application, that could be used to check chips?

Like a fixed series of sound tests to go through all the chip's filters etc etc.

Also we could post mp3 samples of working chips that people can compare their chips to.

Because I can imagine some people have no idea how a SID should sound or how a broken filter sounds at all.

    like me :)

so this application could be very usefull - i believe it could even be embedded in MBSID V2

    what do you think ??

  6. To give you an impression about the hardware changes, here a schematic for the MIDI/CAN wiring

The schematic mentions "cheap solution". Is there an "expensive solution", better in some ways?

In the meantime I made some additional experiments, and I think that I will release a last V1 version with CAN support (for PIC18F4685 only) which will include all the communication functions which I will use for MBSID V2 as well.

This is great news! Now I can built SID with CAN communication before V2 is released and use V1 until then! Cool!

Hope Smash TV starts selling PIC18F4685s with preburned bootloader soon!
