  1. Hi all,

I'm trying to resurrect a old MIDIBOX SID that I have built for an eurorack modular synth project.

My setup is composed by the following:

    1 16x2 LCD display GDM1602B Xiamen ocular

1 mbhp core  made by smashTV  running PIC18F452 BSL V1.2B MIOS V1.9E

1 SID board made by smashTV ,  8580 is installed

    the application is setup_8580_without_cs.hex

In past the system was working perfectly but the cable connections where unstable, so I have decided to rewire It.

After the rewiring I have double checked all the connections but the system doesn't work anymore.

I have also checked all the voltages .

    the synthoms are the following:

    1) the display is blank (no messages, only a solid rectangle at the system boot)

    2) after the system boot the SID is generating a loop of 4 notes like an "alarm tone"

    3) Sending a Query in MIOS studio stops  the "alarm tone" with the following message:

    Operating System: MIOS8
    Board: MBHP_CORE or similar
    Core Family: PIC18F
    Application is up & running

    4) Sending notes in MIOS studio results only in audible "CLICKS"

    Have you any suggestions about?

Any hint would be very appreciated.

    Thanks,

    B.R.

    Giorgio.

  2. Hi  Mr. Sebo!

what's the name of the Chip broken?

    I buy for 40 euro a M110 @ this page : http://www.vintagechip.altervista.org/

Maybe u can find your chip .

    (...)

Do u need a black box like this?

                        _____

      >-- V/oct ---|        |

                        | VCO  | ----> /\/\/\/\ (square wave)

                        |_____|

    Try this simple schematic:

    http://www.uni-bonn.de/~uzs159/vco4069.html

    (...)

A very very good analog keyboard interface project is this :

    http://www.musicfromouterspace.com/analogsynth/matrix_keyboard_may2004/matrix_keyboard_may2004.html

Maybe  this can be a great  T.O.S.  substitute

(T.O.S. mean Top Octave Synthesizer or what?!? )

Soon the pictures of The "re-animation" of my Siel mono !!!

    ;-)

  3. I think 3 way to resume the dead m110 :

    1) I buy a new m110 chip.

I have found it on e-bay for 40 €.I'ts very expensive, cause I take the sinth from a friend 5 years ago for 10 € !!!

but this mean no midi, or build another midi interface pic based ...

    http://www.electronic-obsession.se/studio/mono/mono_mtc64.JPG

    http://www.electronic-obsession.se/studio/mono/mono_vco.JPG

    2) build the atmel board.

Mmm ... long story. I need to build a specific programmer, install another sofware  (...)

@ this time I'm building 2 core modules + the pic burner: another project Atmel based sound like "no-sense"!

    3) A core module based project.

This can be a great alternative:with a cv/gate out, I can control the synth via midi, but in this case

the keyboard of the synth not work!

but ... if I add an input (like a din module ? ), I can connect the matrix of the keyboard and ... GOAL!!! :-)

Maybe i'ts like kill a fly with a cannon ball, but I think this is a good start point about a midify-discussion.

... and many peole are "luky" m110 owner! ;-)

  4. hi people!

4 Years ago I try to midify a Siel mono, an analog sinth made in italy in 1980

but in a wrong operation, I burn the main chip , a pretty rare and expensive "m110". :-((

This is a 40 pin ic product by SGS in early 80, and it's used in many

vintage sinth like  Siel mono, cruise, or Jen SX1000.

    http://www.milton.arachsys.com/nj71/pdf/m110.pdf

This chip scan the matrix of keyboard and a dco (clocked by 1 mhz I think) make the

square wave output for the note.

The m110 is very hard to find and  much expensive, so i think about a project (pic based) to make a clone.

In the net I have found this board but the core is an Atmel ATMEGA8L (!!!)

    http://www.milton.arachsys.com/nj71/index.php?menu=2&submenu=4&subsubmenu=1

    (look "3.5 Keyboard" section!)

At this time i'm building a 1 rack unit MIDIbox SID Synthesizer (soon  the pics ...), and I ask me

if is possible a project mios based like a replacement module of the dead m110.

    Any Idea?!?
