  1. Is there a significant difference in sound quality b/w the original 6581 chip and the reissues such as the 6581 R3?
  2. hello there new community that I had no idea existed and am now happy to be a part of, I am an engineering graduate student and absolutely love analog music! Shocked I use a moog prodigy and a juno 60 when performing live and would luv to add a midibox to the collection. The things I've seen people do with the SID chips is absolutely amazing. Just today I picked up an old C64 off craigslists (86' model I believe) which I found houses the SID 6581 R3 chip. I realize that its advised to start with the minimal component option but feel I am capable of building a V2 given the right tools (i.e. a pdf instruction manual). With that being said I went ahead and ordered a SID and Core kit from Smash to get started. It is my understanding that this setup as expandable. I didn't however order the PIC chip. It seems like the core module chips are specific to any given setup. I guess my question is, once i get the SID and Core modules together, where the hell do I go from there? We deserve to know, Cheesy check my two friends mitch and greg,... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YicT7wZtbXg haha,..those silly gamers
