Cool That was ultimatly my plan at least to start with. Why make it any more complicated than it needs to be. We are neighbours by the way. I'm "just" in Essendon near the end of Moorland Rd :) I am blown away by looking at the Midibox of the week thread. Especially when you read through the comments and people state its their first ever project or that they have never made anything electronic before. Very inspiring. Really itching to get going. :)

Thanks to you both for your replies. I'm starting at the very beginning so need to know where to get everything :-[ I thought that maybe Dick Smith and Tandy might have been good places to start. I figured that the PICs would need to be imported but thought that most of the other stuff could have come from somewhere more local. Its like trying to find a needle in a hay stack when you know nothing :) I will have a look at the companies you suggested and start feeling my way around. And thanks for asking. Hello everyone. Obviously I'm completly new to all this and deserve to be flamed right away. Does anyone know of anywhere in Australia where I can get a majority of this stuff. Obviously being in a cultural desert often means that Australia doesnt pick up on things like this. Once again, I'm sorry for a really dumb question but we all have to start somewhere. Do you often purchase components from abroad? Is that the done thing?? Argh I feel like a complete idiot ??? ;D

Hi all. Just thought that before I bother people I would say hello to everyone. I am obviously a n00b but we all have to start somewhere. Ive been frustrated with the poor standard of midi controllers out there on the market and have just realised I should be building my own. I'm pretty excited about it right now Hope you can help at some point :)
