  1. Yup, I'm talking about 4 digital buttons. how about led's? No prob again as they are on/off (digital) correct?
  2. hello, I hope I put this question in the right forum. I'm working on my midibox project and I'm thinking of mounting my buttons in my turntables and routing the wires to my midibox that will sit behind my mixer. I'm not really familiar with electronics building and I was wondering if the wires that connect the buttons to the midi box have a "max length"? I'm figuring that in my scenario they would be about 22" inches....
  3. Alrighty, I have my optical sensor and I'm looking at the Diagram: http://www.midibox.org/forum/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=11167.0;attach=3959;image so the touch sensor goes to j8 the third pin which is SI? and what about the LED's? and Led picker-uper? I wired my MB for J5A and J5B Where do I plug them into? Thanks, t3
  4. Rasteri, What is the recommened resolution of the encoder wheel? and by 360 steps you have half opaque correct? I am asking because I may get my encoder laser engraved from ABS plastic, but I need to know whats going on ;). I've seen you throw up two disk files one that was 360 and one that was 2048. I was thinking maybe 512 steps.... and what software are you using to make your wheels?
  5. ademir, Can you read Minds? I'm actually posting pictures of hdd jog wheel mount... I grinded (ground isn't a word in this sense, right?) the base of the enclosure to be flat and I'm going to mount the encoder wheel on the base of the HDD spindle, use that cool little spacer to give me some space ;) and mount the jog wheel (CD) on top. now rasteri, If i were to connect the touch sensor wire to the spindle with a conductive jog wheel on top would it work? The spindle is aluminum I believe, But don't quote me on that...
  6. The bearing is a good Idea... I'm going to see what I can do...
  7. My Midibox is almost done, I'll post pics soon... Now Rasteri... I cam across this recently and I was wondering if this would work... http://www.instructables.com/id/HDDJ_Turning_an_old_hard_disk_drive_into_a_rotary/ It's an Instructable about using a HDD as a Rotary device.... I Have 3 Old HDD's laying around that I'm willing to bust open but, my question is... they add "comparators" to the unit. The Midibox chip has them built in correct? your code uses um, So could I just wire up a HDD in place of the optical encoder and get the same results? Thanks, TurntheTables
  8. Ok, my MBHP has arrived! Woohoo! I'm going to build tommorrow with my electronics/programming buddy who is interested in what I'm up to. What needs to be changed in the code for it to work with this r9 resistor in place? I'm willing to write code ( would be my first Mios app, but I've coded before) if you can explain what needs to happen... psuedocode or words.. anyhow you want to explain....
  9. thank you much sir... tallyho... I just always wanted to say that... do ppl on the other side of the pond say that alot?
  10. Ok, mine is probably going to end up being like 5.5 inches or close to that... when I build my MBHP i could essentially test with just an encoder wheel and my mouse sensor correct.. make a spindle for the encoder and spin it... I'm going to try to make a few different sized encoder wheels and test them out..... I want to try CD size, a little bit bigger and 7 inch.... Do you know if there is a list of mios functions around? I want to study rasteri's code , I understand the syntax, but I would like to see like a list of mios functions if at all possible... does anybody know of one?
  11. well, I'm sure stryd_one wouldn't mind helping me figure out what needs to be changed... ;) the acetate sheets you used, were they as thick as a CD/DVD? or were they "filmy" ? I also plan to make the platter the size of a cd, could I scale down the encoder wheel or do I need a new one? Thanks for all your help rasteri!
  12. 18F452 18F4620..... my bad ;D
  13. ok cool, I remember reading that it could do analog or digital, now I've looked at this thread a bunch of times and I'm confused about the PIC, will it run on the 52 now? I remember at some point it wouldn't...... or the 20... I'm not sure what I read now, but I just want to make sure that the chip I got on the way, will work! I got a 20 on the way..... EDIT: I have a 20 on the way not a 52!
  14. the sensors ( rotary enc and the touch) are going to go to the j5 connector port correct, according to smashtv's doc on his site it says can be used for digital in or digital out.... my next question is , why no r9 resistor, what does that do? thanks for answering my questions guys.. I'm pumped, rasteri was right! you guys are crazy helpful!
  15. does anybody know if there is a pcb layout for a DINx2 or DINx1? Thanks! These forums rock!
  16. Rasteri! I'm a web developer! If YOU need anything web related PM ME! Should I have gotten the 20 or the 52? will it matter? I took apart a mouse and it had three sensors, I'm going to post pics, two are the same ( for the ball) and one is larger (for the scroll wheel) would it matter which I use? They are all, whats its called, quadrature encoders? my plan is to build a DIN for the sensor and MAYBE an AIN for some pots. Just to make this controller nasty! first, I have to get it, then I worry about extras! does the bushing provide smooth operation? I saw a schematic on here with a skateboard bearing, that would still work for the touch sensor correct? Also, It looks like It's going to be a lil bit before I get my hands on some touch sensitive paint. ( I forgot the name :) ) Could I build it non-touch and then when I get the paint, make it touch sensitive? Thanks for the help!
  17. alrighty guys! here I go, I ordered my core kit from smashtv... should be here soon. I'm getting the sensors from some old mice... now stryd_one, you said that the encoder should be a module.. could you enlighten me on how to do so? I would need either a din or an ain? correct? Any help would be super appreciated, I'll post a picture guide of my build :) (people on the interwebz usually like pictures ;D) This place rocks!
  18. Thanks for the super fast reply! Going to order parts as soon as I get some funds! ;D How do I know what modules I need for the midibox64e? I've looked around the I've come to the conclusion that I need 1 x MBHP_CORE, 4 x MBHP_DINX4 4 x MBHP_DOUTX4, 1 x MBHP_LTC only because thats what the kit says at mikes shop..... Where else would I find this info? I looked in the wiki and at ucapps... nothing that I see...
  19. rasteri, I love your Scratch wheel keep up the great work! I happened to stumble upon one of your youtube vids one day and I wanted to see how it worked, Now I'm here! I'm in the process of acquiring the hardware right now, I'm going to build the core module as I would for a regular midibox, so is there anything that I should change as of your schematic on picasa? Did you ever get around to making a new schematic? What about does it work with Torq 1.07?
  20. Hello, I'm Turnthetables, I'm a web developer that DJ's as a hobby with an undying love of anything electronic. I've done my research and am getting super excited about making my own midi devices. I'm USA based, so I'd be getting my stuff from SmashTV. Here come the questions :D 1) I KNOW I'm going to need a core. So I'm thinking about getting the Core PCB with the PIC already burned, whats the difference in the PIC's? I'm super interested in building Rastari's Midi Scratch controller and he recommends the PIC18F4620, so I'm going to get the Core PCB with this PIC preburned. This is my first Midi device so I'm wondering should I bother with all that headers info? Just leave it blank right? 2) ALL the components come in the package right? I just need to solder everything to the board? or do I need to purchase all the caps and whatnot? 3)I'm thinking about starting my midibox life by making a mb64e that is similar to an m-audio trigger finger. This is doable correct? I just need to build the modules and setup pots / faders / buttons .... LAst question, does anybody know if torq 1.07 fixed the midi bug? Thanks for your time, This place looks super promising!
