Hey I just wanna +1 the interest in MBProgramma v2!!! I LLLOOOVVVEEE my LoopA.

I will check out the Midibox Wiki... maybe even a moron like me can figure out how to build my own controller with it. I can kinda fumble around with BMC (Badass MIDI Controller) and OpenDeck but I find those two solutions to be a bit limited (which isn't a bad thing, when I want a simple controller) so maybe Midibox is more suited to my vision.

What's the best way to get started with MBNG? I'm not a programmer, but I have a vague idea what's going on when I read simple code -- and I'm good at following instructions :)

Hope you really have so much time (and more patience too)

because here really seem that nothing  happen in fast way...     ( unfortunately..)

    cheers.

If you think an available commercial device can fulfil your needs, then get one! DIY is a different thing. It is potentially more expensive and you have to put in the tools and effort to finish things, but the journey can be very rewarding and sometimes you can obtain tools that are not found elsewhere, often for the very reason that they would be impractical or uneconomical to produce in scale.

    Thanks for the post !

Devices for music production are for Music composers/producers/makers ( pro and hobby type )

for the hobbyists or enthusiasts , the Diy "way" can be ok , because they probably have free time to spend on it.... ,

for the Pro is different ,

as the time already never enough for music productions , ....let alone other things.....

frequently a necessary specific device like the (cool) MBProgramma is not available on the market ..

(..despite the fact that the marketing departments of the big companies are always on the alert )

and then the Diy (where possible) become the only one way,

but if it require more than a certain amount of time (unfortunately (always too little...)

becomes an option not possible (for "Pro") ,

without a technician capable in the matter ,

but considering the legitimate cost ,

too often "the game is not worth the candle" .

it would be relatively more simple ,  usable , with probably a funny part too ,
if it were like the assembly boxed stuff (at least for the hardware part).

The MidiBox projects ( all versions/types ) , and all the guys that develop their projects are a very very very incredible cool universe,

    obviously TK included !

The MBProgramma is a target hit in full ,

as a very useful programmer for the too much software to use to make music is necessary ,

as a community that share the realization of the software patches be equally ,

pity that , its accessibility is not easy .

it is certainly not a novelty since the internet has spread ,

that it is common practice of many ,

make devices to sell starting from prototypes , infos , etc..

found in the world of diy....

(..ok , it happened even before internet, even if in other ways.. ,

... probably as also for that on the video...)

    cheers

@wavewalker - it has been delayed due to too many projects brewing in the kitchen :). Maybe, one day... :)

    Best regards,
    Peter

    Thanks for the post !

    " Maybe, one day " , mean never ?

as the "One" (showed in the video above )will be available used (at half price)

it won't make any sense to consider the "Diy" option ....

( ...just think to the quantity of time required to find all the parts + the assembly ,and then the settings ....)

    cheers..

....if you have the time, wait for MBProgramma V2 (that will be also and always be based on MBNG), that will have PCBs available and will be well-documented. It will just take (a lot) of time, but it is definitely on the TODO-list.

Good enough for a start-point? Imho you really need to decide on what you really want to do FIRST, is it a MBSID, a MBSEQ or a MBNG?
This thread here should be used primarily for Programma discussion...

    Many greets,
    Peter

    + 1 here for "Programma V2"  !!!!

Would it be possible to use 4X 2x20 LCD display instead of 2X 2x40 on a MBSEQ V4? I have a small supply of really nice VFD's but they are 2X20 character HD44780 compatible.

    Thanks!

... And it would be so really cool....

to have  something like a display like 2X8  or 3X8 for each encoder

    ( 16 encoders with 16 display , 24 encoders with 24 display , etc...)

I don't remember now if here or elsewhere a controller project for synth edit-control

with 16-24 oled displays , each for a single encoder..

(also in group of four as in the attached)

Could work, but you'd need a custom firmware and separate select lines for each LCD.

MIOS8: A special driver module is available which allows to connect up to 8 CLCDs to a single core (clcd_multi). Displays have to be selected with the USER_LCD_Select function by the application.
Connectivity: any free pin of the PIC can be used for the enable line. For instance, if your application doesn't use the analog pins at J5 of the core module, you are able to connect 8 additional LCDs. You could also program a multiplexer interface in order to address even more LCDs by routing the enable line to one PIC pin.
    Wiring Diagram: mbhp_nxclcd_mios8.pdf
MIOS32: the standard CLCD driver is prepared for controlling up to 256 devices selected via MIOS32_LCD_DeviceSet(). Please understand this value as a theoretical possibility, physical parameters (like cable capacities) have to be considered as well. ;-)
Connectivity: see this MIDIbox NG Manual Chapter.

....hmmmm .. , it is possible TK done a recent upgrade about  ?

unfortunately, Fairlightiii vanished from the forums a while ago and we have no gerbers to reproduce these PCBs. ......

anyway thanks a lot for all things shared !

  7. The problem with relay based matrices is that they are huge, and expensive.

    TK:  :o What's THAT?! :D

    but sound remain clean...............

    hi guys

i'm looking to get a device similar (as concept) to the monster "matrix"

but much little then you done ,

nobody know how drive relay like this

    http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.allspectrum.com/store/images/G5V1f.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.allspectrum.com/store/product_info.php%3Fproducts_id%3D512&usg=__KnL0GTsc3uUFNSzhzYc3lAUyNbg=&h=300&w=300&sz=38&hl=it&start=1&um=1&tbnid=ggPnBVKpYGJWzM:&tbnh=116&tbnw=116&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drelay%2B5v%26hl%3Dit%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Dit-it%26sa%3DX%26um%3D1

or similar with gold plated contacts,

    thanks in advance

in case you post some info about

    regards

    ww

  8. Depends on the relay, and which chip is driving it.

Most PIC outputs can sink or source about 20 to 25 ma.

That is not much current to work with.

The 74HC595 chips used in the DOUT modules must stay below 35ma per pin, 70ma per chip.

Other driver chips may be available, I'll let you look them up.

If it's an electromagnetic relay, you also have to protect the output from the voltage spike that you'll get when the output turns OFF.

Many relays have an optocoupled input (LED). These are a much better choice for driving from an output.

Hello and thanks to all for reply posted

what I would want to understand is if i can make a device

with midibox , for control a little audio matrix for my hi-fi setup,

a box with 8 stereo in + 4 stereo out , for select with a remote control (processed by pic)

different audio device input like cd player, turmtable, computer out, cassette, old revox b77,blu ray, etc..

and send the "source" to my hi-fi amplifier  ,

and for a clean audio signal , i cannot use IC but "discrete" relay as in-out "doors" ,

i seen the skeme for dout where midibox can drive ic-relay ,

but is the same circuit for drive a "discrete" relay?

thank so much to averybody give an help about

    kind regards

  9. Hey Guys Why not a page as BOM with a list of "basic" parts and sources ?

i'm new of this nice place,

from some day i'm turning around ,

    .....up and down ....

(think to have seen +/- 4/500 pages)

looking for right parts for my first "midibox" controller (faders,encoders,motorfaders,buttons+led,etc...)

after seen all pages at ucapps site and much pages of this forum and wikky ,

not found a simple , superfast page as "BOM" list ,

where all basic and tested parts compatibles with midibox ,

    (except for: core,ain,din,dout,mf .....etc.... cards)

and sources are listed by section , obviously with links and info for active "groupbuy"

    example :

    encoders section:

type of encoder -code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    buttons section

    button+led -code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    button-led -code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    faders section

    motorfader-code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    fader 60mm-code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    fader 100mm-code if available-supplyer-datasheet/manufacturer , etc....

    etc.....................

please mr "admin" it is possible?

    thanks

    ww
