Guest peshay Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 hi there, im new to this DiY stuff so take it easy on me please ;)i want to make an SiD step C type synth (only with one sid in it probably) and im going to build it inside the wooden/metalic frame of an old tape recorder (From the '60s i think) but here's the problem, i cant find any nice knobs, all the ones i can find are ugly and plastic. I want knobs like on a vermona perfourmer does anyone know where i can find something like this, which is compatible with the SiD (dont know if there are special requirements) ... please help! Quote
Guest eBetan Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 you can get them, but they are expensive...only place I have seen anything similar is as volume and tone knobs on guitars....probably $4 - $8 (U.S.) a pair....thats all I've seen, but if you find them somewhere at a more reasonable price, let me know!...PS...the knobs are separate from the electrical part of the pot....the knob is just the grippy part on the outside, all you need to be compatible with the midibox is the pot...from there the type of shaft on the pot determines which knobs you can use with it..but if the pretty knobs are what you are loking for (looks counts for alot in my projects too!) then you should get the knobs first, because compatible pots are usually available with all different kinds of shafts. reincarnate Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Hey Peshay,I know what you mean. I've found some really nice looking brushed aluminium knobs - although not quite the same as the ones in the picture. You can get them at http://www.maplin.co.uk/ order number YR65V. They come in different sizes, from £1.09 to £1.69 (small bulk order discount). I think I've seen them at Farnell (www.farnell.com), example order numbers being 662380, 662409. Best thing to do is search on "Aluminium Knob" and it will give you the entire range.Maplin is in the UK only (I think). Farnell looks like it's everywhere. Where are you??Steve Quote

reincarnate Posted July 8, 2003 Report Posted July 8, 2003 Hey, thanks Peshay ;DI think they look pretty good....still haven't ordered any knobs yet, but I've been building my JDM tonight....won't be long now!S. Quote
reincarnate Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 I've got one of the aluminium knobs from Maplin (as in the above link).Hmmm....OK, but still haven't found better alternatives. I think they might be good with my overall design, it's hard to judge a knob on it's own. Here's a link to Reichelt - slightly different again:http://www.reichelt.de/index_direkt.html?KNOPF%2029-6%20AL+PwFsn9S4AQ4AAESeCZc+B27Steve Quote
