djjonnyjams Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 I've been through the walkthrough/wik/ucapss etc. about the minimum control surface for my midibox sid. So far these are the parts I have ordered per frailn's reccomendations:1. Core Kit with PIC18F4685, PID ID Header = 0000 0000 0000 0000 - $26.952. SID Kit - $153. 16 pin Female IDC Connector (for hooking up your LCD) - $.504. 16 pin Ribbon Cable (for hooking up your LCD) - $2.505. 10 pin Female IDC Connector x 2 (for hooking up your Core module to your SID module) - $1.006. 10 pin Ribbon Cable - $2.007. 2-Pin Female Connector x 5 - for running power to both modules and maybe for your audio in and out - $3.65I also ordered 10 of the 10k pots just for the heck.I then proceeded to order an LCD, I saw the part about a 2x20 character lcd being reccomended, then I read that there is also a 4x20 option. I then ordered this:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=120429145699for an extra $2.00 I thought, "why not get the demo board, so I can display vulgar messages while I'm building my box"Then I went back and re-read the part that says 4x20 is for mb-6582My question is:Can I use this as a 2x20 and just use the top two lines, or do I need to order an actual 2x20?Or, is there a way for my midibox (not mb-6582) to utilize this display in the same way that mb-6582 does? I like the level meter...and one more question while you guys are pasting in links to information I overlooked, is there anything else I'll need to get my first core and SID module going? Thanks~Jonny Jams Quote
Wilba Posted June 2, 2009 Report Posted June 2, 2009 MB-6582 is just a set of boards that "run" the MIDIbox SID V2 application... so anything it does can be done with other boards/parts.The code that uses the top and bottom lines of 4x20 LCDs is in the application, you just need to change the configuration in the setup_*.asm and then compile a new .hex file. eg. you might start with setup_8580.asm as a base and then configure it to your actual hardware/wiring. djjonnyjams Posted June 2, 2009 Author Report Posted June 2, 2009 Thanks. I'm very hapy that I'll be able to use this LCD right now, and it leaves me room to grow! Quote
