SMF Player from USB Mass Storage. Help!

I'm in the process of designing/building a SMF player. Simply, It reads SMF files from a USB Mass Storage device, and sends it to a single MIDI out. It includes an LCD display and a few buttons to navigate around the menu's.

I'm using a PIC 18F2455 device and have successfully integrated the LCD, switches, MIDI out, and now just starting to incorporate the USB mass storage device.

I'm looking to take sequencer portion from the MIOS to play the SMF files. Is this possible?, Can MIOS code be ported over to another PIC. I don't need the entire MIOS, just the sequencer portion and perhaps SMF reader if it has one.
