manufacturedsoul Posted October 16, 2013 Report Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) Hey, Not sure if anyone here can help me. I'm currently trying to finish putting together my second sammichSID, This kit sat in a box for over a year due to RL issues but I finally got around to building it and I've run into an issue trying to get this one finished. I'm at the spot where you are suppose to check 5V on the top board the one with the Screen. The guide tells you to connect the top board to the bottom board with no chips installed power it on and you should see black rectangles on the screen then proceed to testing. Well when I turn the unit on I get NOTHING on the screen. I can't seem to figure out what's wrong. I've messed around with a multi-meter but the only thing I've come across that looks somewhat suspect is RN2 i'm not getting ANY reading when I try to test for ground. I get it on RN1,RN3, and RN4. But even if this is an issue with that resistor I'm not sure that should effect the screen? This was the standard screen supplied with the kit. I've currently got the jumper on the 5v position. I should mention that I've got a 12 regulated psu. I've tested it with both the PSU for this sammichSID and with the PSU from my working sammichSID doesn't work with either power supply (same exact PSU type). I built my first one with no problems so i'm a little confused as to what's going wrong. I've also thought about pulling the screen and putting it into my working sammichSID and see if it works right but i'd only like to do that as a LAST resort. Also when the unit is turned on the power regulators get VERY VERY hot, but only when the top board is connected and unit turned on. I tested my other Sammich and it doesn't seem to get anywhere near this hot when left on for a long time yet this one gets very hot almost instantly. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys! manufacturedsoul Posted October 16, 2013 Author Report Posted October 16, 2013 (edited) So I went ahead and pulled the screen and tested it on my working sammichSID. The screen worked fine. I went ahead and desoldered RN2 and removed it. It actually cracked in half in my hand after it was removed so I think it was bad. Once I did that I reattached everything minus RN2 and turned it back on and the screen is on! The power regulators aren't getting crazy hot now either. Now i'll just have to find another 6A103G resistor to put back in the unit and i'm hoping i'll be good. Edited October 16, 2013 by manufacturedsoul Quote
