make my life easy!!

Let's just say I wanted to make a unit that had 16 faders, motorised or encoders and I wanted it to be usb connected.  I would be using it with VST mainly.  Is it basically just a matter of buying/building some of the modules and some pots, and doing some soldering, and throwing it all in a case?  If so, which modules?

So far, I can't quite figure out what all goes into something like this.  I see the modules, and I see some specific designs, but none are exactly what I want so I'm not sure what to build.

Can someone make my life easy, and tell me what I would really need to build?
