LCD not working

Hi. I just built a MIOS core module and so far so good. Got the analog inputs working and tested. Now I am trying to add an LCD. I bought a Lumex P/N: LCM-S01602DTR/A from Digi-key and hooked it up and nothing...no characters, no dots, nothing. I triple checked the wiring with a voltmeter, everything looks correct. Did I buy the wrong type of display. Or is there a programming error I may have made. I uploaded the OS and the AIN example 1 program. I'm a newbie so I probably missed something obvious.

as long as the lcd is getting power it should glow(if backlit) and have a row of squares.

check the data sheet from digikey to see if it is hitachi compatable.
