midibox synth with other soundcard chips

hi all

has anyone worked on a MBsynth like the FM box using other chip sets like the EMU 101 set?

i like the idea of the FM and SID boxes and wondered if anyone has looked at other chips.

the EMU chip looks quite interesting as it has two hardware synths built in plus the usuall creative/EMU stuff (soundfont,wave effects, ect ect.)

and looks more availiale than the yamaha chipset.

i have read the WIKI about using other chips ect ect. im just curious to other users investigations and pitfalls, if i can find the time between degree studies i might have a go at the emu chip.

i think the matter is the code of other ship are often not in open source.

if you have facilities in programming ,let see what analog device propose ,but the price for the devellopment kit is very expansive ,and if there is a lot of "atom" in free access ,you really need to have good knowledge.
